After making comedies about the pro-golf circuit, the school system and college football, Adam Sandler decided to explore the hilarious world of child endangerment with Big Daddy, which also featured pre-Daily Show Jon Stewart, a pre-Knocked Up Leslie Mann and a pre-constantly publicly embarrassing himself Rob Schneider.
Big Daddy recently turned 25, and to mark the anniversary, The Hollywood Reporter chatted with producer Sid Ganis and co-writer Steve Franks, all about how the beloved comedy came together.
The interview is full of intriguing behind-the-scenes tidbits, including the fact that the story was originally set at a theme park, owing to the fact that Franks penned the first draft of the script while working at Disneyland. But it was originally titled Guy Gets Kid, which kind of makes it sound like a revenge movie about a man seeking payback against a child.

Twenty-five years ago, Adam Sandler’s Big Daddy wiped the floor with the competition.
Sony released the comedy feature from director Dennis Dugan (Happy Gilmore) on June 25, 1999. The film opened to $41 million domestically en route to collecting $234 million globally ($442 million today) and holding the title as Sandler’s highest-grossing title domestically until Hotel Transylvania 2 in 2015.
Big Daddy centers on Sonny Koufax (Sandler), an unmotivated law school graduate who attempts to prove himself by adopting 5-year-old Julian (Cole and Dylan Sprouse) when the boy shows up at his doorstep. The cast includes Jon Stewart, Joey Lauren Adams, Rob Schneider and Leslie Mann.
During separate conversations with The Hollywood Reporter, producer Sid Ganis and writer Steve Franks (credited for the screenplay alongside Sandler and Tim Herlihy) discuss how Disneyland helped inspire the project and recall Chris Farley lobbying for the lead role. Lots of actors make a living starring in mostly bad movies, but few do it on such a scale and level of success as Adam Sandler. The frustrating thing is, we all know how talented he can be when he feels like it, at least compared to other bad movie regulars like, say, Gerard Butler. You always know what you're going to get with Butler, that steady level of grimacing B-movie badness, and he's never going to suddenly wrong-foot you with an Oscar-worthy performance before going back to stabbing people to death with pencils.
Sandler certainly has the talent, but he just can't be bothered to use it most of the time. Maybe he doesn't feel the need when his special brand of lowbrow humor has earned him a loyal fanbase all over the world. That was something Netflix was keen to get a slice of when they signed him...

Dylan Sprouse, a former Disney TV star, is making his big return to the small screen on Mindy Kaling’s HBO Max series “The Sex Lives of College Girls,” a person with knowledge of the casting confirmed for TheWrap.
Sprouse, who is the twin brother of Cole Sprouse, joins Pauline Chalamet, Amrit Kaur and Broadway stars Reneé Rapp and Alyah Chanelle Scott in the comedy.
Those four female leads play roommates randomly assigned to a dorm at a prestigious New England college. HBO Max picked up 13 episodes of the comedy last year.
Chalamet will play Kimberly, the valedictorian of her high school in the Arizona suburbs who is described as such: “Smart, caring, earnest and ambitious, she’s prepared for college academically — but not so much socially.”
Kaur will play Bela, a “comedy-obsessed, super confident cornball from the affluent suburbs of northern New Jersey who is never afraid to say what she’s thinking.

Marvel Studios may have perfected the formula over the last twelve years, but they were hardly the first to set their movies in a shared cinematic universe. All of Quentin Tarantino’s work takes place in the same mythology, and he’s even established two distinct timelines to the extent where fans can join the dots between his films, with the writer/director explaining that characters from Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction would theoretically go and see From Dusk Till Dawn and Kill Bill on the big screen.
Adam Sandler, meanwhile, recently joked that he’d love to do an Avengers-style crossover for Happy Madison Productions, and while the actor’s fans have become accustomed to seeing the same faces show up in a lot of his projects, the Sandler-verse has already existed for well over 20 years. The centerpiece of “Love, Weddings & Other Disasters” is a sweetly engaging story about the improbable autumnal romance between an impossibly demanding celebrity caterer, played by a perfectly cast Jeremy Irons, and the age-appropriate, sight-impaired free spirit (a very winning Diane Keaton) who manages to locate a warm heart beneath his frosty demeanor. Unfortunately — indeed, tragically — this appealing narrative is paid only sporadic attention during the run of writer-director Dennis Dugan’s haphazard amalgamation of loosely interconnected storylines that, save for the scenes involving Keaton and Irons, run the gamut from blandly predictable to overbearingly unfunny.
To put it another way: If “Love, Actually” had actually been as bad as its most vociferous detractors have long insisted, it would have looked and sounded a lot like this misfire.
Most of the events are driven in various ways by the upcoming wedding of a Boston mayoral candidate (Dennis Staroselsky) who frets...

Today marks the first of the month, meaning that Netflix is providing subscribers with a massive dump of new content to add to their watch lists and devour. Some huge additions have arrived on the platform, such as Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, two Jurassic Park pics, and all 10 seasons of the sci-fi show Stargate Sg-1. With so much to watch, then, there’s undoubtedly something for everyone – but if you’re a fan of Adam Sandler, today’s an even better day for you.
The actor has had two movies of his added to Netflix, and they’re both relatively popular entries in his long list of comedies. In the rom-com 50 First Dates, Sandler stars opposite Drew Barrymore as a man who loves a girl with amnesia and must remind her daily about who he is and why she should love him back. Paul Thomas Anderson wrote his 2002 romance “Punch-Drunk Love” as a star vehicle for Adam Sandler, who at that point was best known for broad comedies like “The Waterboy,” “Big Daddy,” and “Little Nicky.” Anderson was confident Sandler could pull off the more dramatic overtones of the “Punch-Drunk Love” script, but the filmmaker’s longtime producer JoAnne Sellar was less sure at first. Sellar admits in Adam Nayman’s book “Paul Thomas Anderson: Masterworks” that casting Sandler originally confused her.
“After ‘Magnolia’ [Paul] wanted to make a really short movie,” Sellar said. “That was the first thing I remember him saying. But yeah, he wrote it for Sandler. He was a huge Sandler fan, and I was just befuddled. I just didn’t get the whole Adam Sandler thing at that stage. I mean, the ‘Saturday Night Live’ stuff, yes, but the movies that Adam had done weren’t for me. As...

"If you're Cinderella, come meet your Prince Charming..." Saban Films has unveiled the official trailer for a lovable romantic comedy titled Love, Weddings & Other Disasters, the latest ensemble movie from actor / director Dennis Dugan since he last made Grown Ups 2 in 2013. With a couple's impending wedding as the backdrop, Love, Weddings & Other Disasters weaves multiple storylines as it follows the search for love by a colorful group of characters including: an inexperienced wedding planner nicknamed “The Wedding Trasher”; a fussy celebrity caterer; his blind date; and a tour-bus guide looking for his Cinderella. How their lives and loves intersect is half the fun in this film that proves romance is alive and well... and as crazy as ever! Of course it is. The movie stars Diane Keaton, Jeremy Irons, Maggie Grace, Jesse McCartney, Chandra West, Diego Boneta, & Andrew Bachelor. This should look better than it ...

Hubie Halloween may have only landed on Netflix a couple of weeks ago, and continued the actor’s impressive winning streak of incredibly popular titles, but Adam Sandler is already hard at work on his next exclusive project for the streaming service. Having threatened to make a terrible movie on purpose after being snubbed at the Academy Awards for his performance in Uncut Gems, let’s hope that Hustle doesn’t see him making good on his promise.
The sports comedy was only announced in May, but cameras are now rolling on the latest Happy Madison effort. The story focuses on a washed up basketball scout who discovers an incredible player in China and wants to bring him over to the United States to join the NBA. And in an unusual twist for a Sandler film, Hustle was pitched to him by Netflix after they acquired the script from Legendary.

Netflix can’t seem to get enough of Adam Sandler at the moment, from the recent success of Hubie Halloween, to the ongoing popularity of his films across the platform. On top of all that, the streamer have now shared some first look images of Sandler’s latest, basketball movie Hustle, which will see him play a scout who’s fired after finding a player in Europe, and brings him to the U.S. to try and break into the NBA.

The new photos on Twitter appear to show the Big Daddy star with his basketball player discovery, in what’s most likely current filming location Philadelphia. Even though the biggest actors often have to go through countless auditions for certain movies, on occasion, the film and its director hand pick their very own leading star. And that’s exactly what happened with Adam Sandler in 2002’s kooky black comedy Punch-Drunk Love.
Speaking recently on the SmartLess podcast, the award-winning 54 year-old – affectionately dubbed the Sandman by his fans – went into candid detail about the process of landing such a pivotal role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s heartwarming comedy-romance. And apparently, it all began with the one and only Tom Cruise.
“I met Tom Cruise when Nicole Kidman did SNL,” the actor said. “Cruise had a Yankee cap dipped down low, and he looked up, and I was, like, in love with him. Tom called me up, and he says, ‘I’m doing a movie with my friend Paul, and he’s interested in doing a movie with you.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.

Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

Comedies are doing quite well on Netflix right now, as American Pie Presents: Girls’ Rules, Employee of the Month, The Grinch and The Croods are all occupying spots on the service’s Top 10 Movies list. The range of pricing in VOD play has never been so clear. Two films at the extreme ranges of budget and premium stand out among new releases. At $3.99, which represents rock-bottom for a new film, Dinesh D’Souza’s latest right-wing polemic “Trump Card” is #1 at both Apple TV and Google Play, charts that rank by transaction volume.
At the same time, Disney’s “Mulan” is now available on platforms beyond Disney+ for $29.99, and is #1 at the revenue-based FandangoNow. “Ava” also continues its successful showings, with first place at Spectrum.
“Trump Card” is pitched as an expose of “socialism, corruption, and the deep state,” and clearly aimed at Election Day interest. In his past films (which received theatrical release), D’Souza preferred to specifically demonize Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton. This time, the target is far broader than the tougher-to-hate Joe Biden. It placed #2 at FandangoNow, where its low price hurts its ranking.

It’s not entirely surprising to hop onto Netflix and see at least one of Adam Sandler‘s efforts sitting comfortably on the Top 10 overall and/or Top 10 movies list. When you think about Adam Sandler's 1999 film Big Daddy, romance probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, it does hold a very special significance for the actor. Not only was it one of his biggest comedic roles to date, but it's also where he met his wife, Jackie. At the time, Jackie was an aspiring actress getting her big break in Hollywood. In the film, she plays a waitress who takes Adam's order at a sports bar, but clearly a real-life spark happened off screen.
The pair started dating shortly after the film was released, and they've been inseparable ever since. The two eventually tied the knot in 2003, and have since welcomed two daughters, Sunny, 11, and Sadie, 14. While their relationship started on screen, they have continued to work together on a handful of projects like Murder Mystery, Just Go With It, Grown Ups, and 50 First Dates.

Adam Sandler had major Oscar buzz for his role as a gambling addict spiraling out of control in “Uncut Gems,” winning an Independent Spirit Award and earning nominations from the Critics’ Choice and Gotham Awards, among other plaudits. Now he has a chance to win again at the infamous kudos that have honored him the most: the Razzies, where he’s currently up for the Redeemer Award.
The Redeemer Award was created by the Razzies in 2014 to honor an industry figure who came back from Razzie-winning bombs to achieve critical and industry acclaim. To date it has been awarded to Ben Affleck for his one-two punch of “Argo” and “Gone Girl” (2014), Sylvester Stallone for his Oscar-nominated comeback in “Creed” (2015), Mel Gibson for directing the Oscar-nominated “Hacksaw Ridge” (2016) and Melissa McCarthy for her Oscar-nominated performance in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” (2018).

Yep, it's been 21 years since Adam Sandler and Cole Sprouse warmed our hearts and made us crave a lot of ketchup in Big Daddy, but the former costars finally had a reunion, and Sprouse has really come a long way since his "Frankenstein" days. Sprouse and Sandler met up at the premiere of Sandler's latest film, Uncut Gems, and they were definitely psyched to see each other. "Cole, is he here?! I can't wait to see him," Sandler told Entertainment Tonight when he realized Sprouse was at the premiere.
While Sandler pointed out that he doesn't think there's any need for a Big Daddy sequel, he does look back fondly on filming with the then 6-year-old Sprouse twins, who shared the role of Julian in the 1999 film. "I remember the boys," Sandler said. "I remember Cole and Dylan being great little boys. When I see them now, I'm baffled at...

Fans of the 1999 comedy Big Daddy — you’re in for a sweet treat.
On Wednesday, Cole Sprouse attended the Los Angeles premiere of Uncut Gems, a new thriller with a buzz-worthy lead performance from Adam Sandler — who famously played Sprouse’s onscreen dad 20 years ago.
The mini reunion called back to the hit comedy, in which Sandler played a New Yorker named Sonny, looking to impress his girlfriend by adopting a child, who was portrayed part-time by Sprouse and his twin brother, Dylan Sprouse. When the love interest dumps him, Sonny is forced to raise the boy on his own,...

Irony thy name is Adam Sandler. I grew up on Adam Sandler. Whether it was his Canteen Boy skit from SNL, his They're All Gonna Laugh At You! comedy album, or classics like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, I consumed every crumb of the man's catalog. While the comedian from NYC started out hot with hits like The Waterboy, Big Daddy, and Mr. Deeds, eventually he began to lose steam. As time…...

Even the greats get let go. Adam Sandler has been a staple in the Hollywood comedy circle for years. After his tenure on Saturday Night Live, the comedian starred in hit films like The Waterboy, Big Daddy and The Wedding Singer. Before he was the star of major blockbusters, he had one major obstacle to get over, the fact that he was fired as a cast member from SNL. Adam hasn't been shy about sharing his side of the events over the years, and even hilariously discussed it in his SNL monologue when he hosted the show in May. The comedian sat down with Howard Stern on his show The Howard Stern Show and opened up about what it was like being fired from such an iconic show so early in his...

Adam Sandler is on a roll — that could send him all the way to the Oscars.
Not only is he up for a Gotham Award for his work in “Uncut Gems,” but his performance also nabbed him an Indie Spirit Award nomination just last week.
If all is right in the world, Sandler, 53, will be recognized by the Academy with a nomination.
“Uncut Gems,” Josh and Benny Safdie’s follow-up to their 2017 crime drama “Good Time,” is a deeply dark dramedy starring Sandler as Howard Ratner, a loudmouthed jewelry dealer in New York’s Diamond District whose gambling addiction is destroying his professional and personal life. The movie follows him over the course of just a few days racing around New York City and out on Long Island as he tries to pull off another one of his con jobs to pay off a debt and get a couple of violent goons off his back.

Well, it took a while, but Adam Sandler finally returned to his roots with a triumphant hosting job on “Saturday Night Live” 24 years after he left the show. The comedian rose to prominence as a performer on the sketch comedy series, earning Emmy nominations for writing in 1991, 1992 and 1993. His long-awaited hosting gig earned him a Best Comedy Guest Actor bid, one of two noms he received this year (he’s also competing for penning his standup special “Adam Sandler: 100% Fresh”).
Sandler opens the episode playfully kidding his termination from the series in 1995 with the original song “I Was Fired.” His former cast mate, Chris Rock, joined him onstage to sing about his own firing, as did current cast member Pete Davidson. Sketches included a Sandler family reunion (with fellow “SNL” alum Jimmy Fallon doing his best impersonation of the comic’s mumbly characters), a father-son erectile dysfunction commercial and the...

For six years, starting in 2005, former child actors Cole and Dylan Sprouse conquered the Disney Channel by starring in the hit sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” and its spinoff, “The Suite Life on Deck.” But then in 2011, the twin brothers — whose credits also include “Big Daddy” and “Grace Under Fire” (where they split the same role in both as young boys) — decided they needed to take a break and enrolled as freshmen at NYU.
In a cover story for Variety‘s annual Power of Young Hollywood issue, Cole, now 27, said he’d be open to working with his brother again. “We’ve talked about it,” said Cole, who since 2017 has played the sardonic narrator Jughead on CW’s “Riverdale.”
Cole added that it wouldn’t be a reboot or a reunion for the Disney Channel. “The whole kitschy twin thing, I don’t think that sells anymore,...

Most child actors don’t thrive in Hollywood past puberty. Cole Sprouse opted out on his own terms. The 2005 hit Disney Channel sitcom “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody” turned Cole and his twin brother, Dylan, into the Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen of their generation. But after the series and its spinoff wrapped, Cole was ready for something new.
In 2011, Sprouse enrolled as a freshman at NYU. Over the next four years, he regained his anonymity, took photography classes, majored in archaeology and landed an entry-level job at a small laboratory in Brooklyn. “I was bagging artifacts,” says Sprouse, who is now 27. “And I got a call from my manager, who begged me to come back and audition for pilot season.” Sprouse made a deal. “If I don’t book anything, then I’m not going to do this anymore,” he recalls telling his manager. “And I gave her...

Bollywood superstar Sanjay Dutt believes that casinos play a big role in promoting tourism in Goa.
"It's very important I think. It (casinos) plays a big role in tourism. People go to Macau, they go to Vegas, but it is beautiful to see something like this in India," Dutt said on Saturday while launching 'Big Daddy', an offshore casino promoted by Haryana politician Gopal Kanda.
Besides 'Big Daddy', Goa has six other offshore casinos which operate from the Mandovi river, off Panaji.
Casino has been a politically sensitive issue ahead of the May 19 assembly bypoll for the Panaji seat, with several candidates promising to do away with the casinos, which largely operate from the state capital.
During the casino launch, the 'Munna Bhai Mbbs' actor also talked about his film career's most memorable dance performance.
He said the dance was choreographed for the song "Tamma Tamma" in the 1990-film 'Thanedar'.

Cole Sprouse has quite literally been acting his whole life. Sprouse and his twin brother, Dylan, first got into the business when they were only 8 months old, and they haven't really slowed down since. While the 26-year-old has had a wide range of roles over the years, including the 1999 comedy Big Daddy, Friends, and the Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, his work continues to mature with him as he gets older. After taking a hiatus from acting to go to college from 2011-2015, Sprouse made his big return to TV when he scored the role of the moody Archie Comics character Jughead Jones on Riverdale in 2017. Now, nearly three years later, Sprouse is heading back to the big screen in the upcoming movie adaptation of Five Feet Apart.
