As we first reported on GameFragger.com, Netflix's Geeked Week has brought us many exciting first looks, including a thrilling teaser for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
Several live-action adaptations of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell have failed to get off the ground over the years, so an animated series will need to suffice for now. It definitely appears to have nailed the look and tone of the long-running Ubisoft franchise, though.
The series will star Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the voice of Sam Fisher in what sounds like a perfect bit of casting.
Unfortunately, few plot details have been revealed but a coffin with "Douglas Shetland" engraved on it suggests this story will play out between the events of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

In 2009, Activision made X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a video game adaptation that was better than the movie itself. The game is still considered one of the most underrated gems in Marvel’s video game lineup. Meanwhile, Channing Tatum’s dream of playing Gambit recently found new life with his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Now, a spinoff game from X-Men Origins could be perfect for Tatum’s next appearance as the iconic mutant. Especially with the hype for Deadpool and Wolverine, a Gambit game would be an easy win.

Many comic book characters have been brought to the big screen over the years, but there are only so many actors willing to fill those roles.
That's why a few Hollywood stars have ended up playing multiple parts across the Marvel and DC Universes, with at least some of them using the second characters they've played to turn their careers around after those disastrous first attempts.
For example, Ryan Reynolds almost killed his career by playing Green Lantern in the 2011 flop; however, he'd more than made up for that with his role in the Deadpool franchise, with this year's Deadpool & Wolverine now the highest-grossing R-Rated movie of all time.
Today, we're looking at 8 actors who have played comic book characters in poorly received superhero movies, only to later redeem themselves with far more successful performances in movies and TV show that didn't flop with fans, critics, and at the box office.

Hugh Jackman is a highly acclaimed actor known for his standout roles. His most iconic performance is as Wolverine in the ‘X-Men’ series, which cemented his status as a leading actor. He also received critical praise for his role as Jean Valjean in ‘Les Misérables’ and showcased his musical abilities as P.T. Barnum in ‘The Greatest Showman.’ Recently, his media presence has been reignited with the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ the latest addition to the MCU.
Jackman is earning praise for maintaining an impressive physique, allowing him to accurately portray Wolverine at 55 years old. Despite some criticism regarding his intense workout and diet routines, he has long been regarded as one of the most handsome actors, and he remains a heartthrob for many. This is noteworthy even though, at the time, he was happily married.

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber used to be one of Hollywood’s power couples. Their love, which lasted for more than a decade, was full of laughter, joy, and an everlasting bond.
This however changed in 2016 as fate would have it and they parted ways. Most fans do not know that it started with a bold move by Watts that would alter their lives forever. The couple had met once before but nothing came off it, and Schreiber felt he lost his chance. But in their second meeting, it was the actress who pursued her romantic interest.

Fans would remember Liev Schreiber’s Sabretooth from Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and with the return of Hugh Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine, the discussion on the iconic character might have come to the surface again. The actor is aware of the audience’s enthusiasm to witness him play the role once more, but it seems like he’s already done with it for good.

Liev Schreiber is known to Marvel fans for his role as Sabretooth in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, replacing Tyler Mane from the X-Men films. He reunited with his Kate & Leopold co-star Hugh Jackman to play his antagonistic brother in the film. Schreiber had a huge misconception about superhero film roles, which Jackman taught him not to be true.

Schreiber shared that he never thought that actors in these films had to actually build their bodies to fit the character. The Ray Donovan actor believed that the muscles on them were something not real and brought on by the superhero suit. Jackman told him that he had to work out to portray a ripped superhero/supervillain.

Out of all the rumors that did the rounds in the build-up to Deadpool and Wolverine's release, fans might have been most excited as the prospect of Liev Schreiber returning as Victor Creed, aka Sabertooth.
The Ray Donovan actor only made one appearance as the animalistic villain in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and while the movie itself is generally regarded as sub-par (to say the least), Schreiber's performance is often hailed as one of the few highlights.
There was speculation that Schreiber may show up as Sabertooth in James Mangold's Logan, but the actor would later reveal that he was never approached. However, a couple of different sources claimed that he was in talks to appear in the Deadpool threequel.
Of course, Schreiber was nowhere to be seen, with the first X-Men movie's Tyler Mane taking on the role of Sabertooth for a brief (but bloody) scrap with Logan.

"Deadpool & Wolverine" isn't just one of the biggest hits of 2024, it's also one of Marvel's biggest hits in a long time. Not since "Spider-Man: No Way Home" has the Marvel Cinematic Universe seen a movie with such cultural penetration, not to mention that this is all stemming from an R-rated affair. A lot of that is credited to bringing back characters from the Fox universe, led by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. One character we didn't get to see, however, was Liev Schreiber's Sabretooth, with the actor having played the mutant in the much-maligned "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." So, why didn't Schreiber return? It at least had something to do with not wanting to put his body through what it would've required.

With the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ the wider MCU has gotten access to plenty of characters from alternative Marvel universes, such as ‘Blade’ universe, Fox X-Men universe, and even Daredevil’s and Elektra’s universe from the original movies.
While most of the cameos we’ve seen in the movie were actors already established in the role, the movie also presented Gambit played by Channing Tatum, which is currently not associated with any universe.
The actor’s story with the character is nearly 2 decades long and goes back to ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ released in 2006.

Deadpool & Wolverine is still one of the most buzzed-about movies this year, especially among Marvel fans. Ever since Ryan Reynolds’ first Deadpool film, there’s been a ton of speculation about where his character would fit in the MCU, given his totally unique personality that’s unlike anything else in superhero stories.

With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, Channing Tatum finally got his chance to play Gambit. His connection to the character spans nearly two decades, dating back to X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.
Tatum auditioned for the role but was ultimately cut from the film. He had another chance to portray Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, but due to his unavailability, the role went to Taylor Kitsch instead.
Although Tatum was close to getting his own standalone Gambit movie, the project was ultimately shelved indefinitely after Fox’s merger with Disney. Tatum finally portrayed the character in Deadpool & Wolverine, describing it as a “dream come true,” and is now advocating for a solo MCU film, with many fans supporting him as the MCU’s main Gambit.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starred together in the MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine. Filled with gratuitous cameos, Easter Eggs, and tongue-in-cheek jokes, the film was a massive success and earned $1.2 billion at the box office. The film saw both the fan-favorite characters share the screen in live-action for the first time.

Wade Wilson is a character in every way imaginable; one of Marvel Comics' most unforgettable and a larger-than-life personality, he has been shocking, enraging, and captivating people for decades. And now, he's part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, where he has managed to do it all again.
Deadpool and Wolverine is one of the franchise's biggest success stories, and it's no easy feat to do that 34 movies in, but that's partly due to the success of the cinematic interpretation of Deadpool and the movie titan than he has become in his own right.
Ryan Reynolds' irreverent Merc With A Mouth first trash-talked his way onto the silver screen in 2016 and he's been making quite the spectacle of himself ever since. Not bad for a somewhat lesser-known antihero in a world full of larger-than-life, famous superheroes.

Deadpool & Wolverine was full of surprises. A fan-favorite moment, though, was when Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman get kidnapped by the resistance group and come face to face with Laura, Elektra, Blade, and Gambit. The audience screamed out loud when Channing Tatum walked in with a comic-accurate Gambit look, and even though it has been a month since the film was released, Gambit is still stuck in everyone’s minds.

Lots of positive reactions came from this summer’s biggest hit, Deadpool & Wolverine. A lot of positive responses also came from fans finally getting to experience Channing Tatum inhabiting the role of Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit. Even after the character got a meta send-off, Tatum holds out hope that this will still open an opportunity for a solo film. “I sure hope so. From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please.” Tatum told Marvel that he still wants to make the movie. “I’ve course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God.”
Tatum is not the first live-action Gambit as Taylor Kitsch portrayed him in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, although Tatum’s speaking voice as the character comes straight out of the 90s X-Men cartoon.

The third installment of Deadpool successfully crossed $1 billion at the box office, proving that even R-rated films can be profitable, which also gives Tatum the hope that he might finally have a solo Gambit movie.
Channing Tatum Defends Gambit’s Unintelligible Cajun Accent
Gambit first debuted in theaters in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Taylor Kitsch portraying the role. His performance was criticized by fans, and he never reprised the role in the succeeding installments. Through Channing Tatum’s initiative, a solo Gambit film was planned but it never got off the ground.

Three weeks after landing in theaters, "Deadpool & Wolverine" is still going strong. It has not only crossed the $1 billion box office milestone at the box office, but also and bocame the highest-grossing R-rated film ever.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" has a lot of problems (read /Film's mixed review here) but the titular buddy dynamic is one of its strengths. If nothing else, it's fun to hear a grouchy Hugh Jackman call Ryan Reynolds an idiot over and over.
Logan and Wade Wilson have a long history in Marvel Comics. They're both way more lethal than most other superheroes and have a shared history of being experimented on by the Weapon X super soldier program. Wolverine's bad temper makes him the perfect comedic foil for Deadpool's flippancy, so their team-ups are a salt-and-pepper pairing that makes for a truly dynamic duo.

Call of Duty has been around for the past few years, and countless game developers have come and gone, leaving improvements that have ushered the franchise to new heights. Some fans are avid followers of other projects made by the same developers and realize their capability of developing a gritty and dark video game.
There was a time when movie tie-in video games were all the rage, and it was an opportunity for game developers to expand upon, which the film could not. Superhero games had first-hand experience with this venture, and fans developed an attachment to one Marvel hero.

After years (and years) of waiting, "The Crow" remake is finally heading our way next weekend. Hailing from Lionsgate and director Rupert Sanders ("Snow White and the Huntsman"), this one will help close out the summer movie season with an R-rated bang. The question is, will this be a loud bang or a rather muted bang? Unfortunately for all involved, it's almost certainly going to be closer to the latter. This crow is not going to fly very high, it seems.
The long-awaited reimagining of James O'Barr's graphic novel is looking at an opening weekend in the $7.5 to $11 million range, per Box Office Theory. That's not great for a movie with a production budget in the $50 million range. Granted, that's cheap for an R-rated comic book movie. Nevertheless, it's going to have a long way to go to get anywhere near profitability, even on the high end of those estimates.

It may have taken years, but Channing Tatum finally got his dream role as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. The part may have been short on screen time, but it may have opened up the possibility for the character to make a silver screen return.
Tatum has said he is willing to get back into the comic book-accurate outfit again, and he’d do some pretty nasty things for that opportunity. During an interview on The Tonight Show, the Magic Mike star came right out with it and said, “I would kill kittens … I’d do lots of terrible things to make that happen.”
Well then.
Ryan Reynolds championed resurrecting Gambit. This makes sense since X-Men Origins: Wolverine kind of flubbed the fan-favorite mutant’s debut way back in 2009 (along with Deadpool’s). The man wants to right all the wrongs that Fox (and Disney) made with the characters.

This… almost didn’t happen. Though Deadpool as a character has achieved incredible mainstream popularity over the years and his third live-action film, Deadpool and Wolverine, is set to dominate the summer box office, the Merc With A Mouth has come a long way to get to where he is now. While the over-the-top violence and zany, fourth-wall-breaking sense of humor in the Deadpool comics made him a fan favorite fairly quickly, that particular combination also made him too niche and too weird for a big-screen adaptation in the eyes of Hollywood executives.

But that isn’t the only reason that the project was a joy to behold for the fans. One of the reasons that fans loved seeing the film featuring the Merc with the Mouth was its cameos. Forget what you thought you knew about Deadpool and Wolverine’s epic team-up! Ryan Reynolds had an even wilder idea for the ending that nearly went off the rails. Imagine this: instead of the usual craziness, Reynolds was pushing for a darker, more intense showdown involving zombies. That’s right, the Merc with a Mouth was set to slice through hordes of undead in a blood-soaked finale.

The Fox era of X-Men movies came to an end when Disney acquired Fox – but that acquisition opened the door to the X-Men characters being able to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That merging of worlds has already begun, with cameos from Professor X and Beast in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels, respectively, building up to the multiversal insanity of Deadpool & Wolverine. So now that Deadpool and Wolverine have had a brush with the MCU’s “Sacred Timeline,” we felt this was a good time to rank all of the X-Men universe films from worst to best. Across this mighty canon of films are triumphs of the genre and ones that stand apart from it, and all the way down to some that do the genre and the characters some serious disservice. Which are the best of the best, and which are best left...

As soon as Deadpool and Wolverine landed in theaters, it was clear the film would topple box office expectations and managed to pull in over $200 million domestically in its opening weekend. The first two Deadpools did not cross $150 million in the same time frame. Now, just over two weeks after its release, the third Deadpool movie has surpassed $1 billion in worldwide ticket sales.

Needle-drop music cues have been a hallmark of the "Deadpool" franchise stretching back to the opening credits of the first film, which kicks off with an amusingly chaotic freeze-frame action sequence set to Juice Newton's cover of "Angel of the Morning." This was a strong statement of irreverent purpose, and a signal to the audience that the artists behind this big-screen take on Marvel Comics' had a mile-wide sentimental streak.
The one constant through all three films has been the trio of star Ryan Reynolds and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. After the travestying of the Merc with a Mouth in 20th Century Fox's botched "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," these gentlemen have worked overtime to deliver a version of Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza's character that respects the fans who keep this superhero movie train chugging. When Logan came out in 2017, it would have been reasonable to assume that it was going to be the last time we’d ever see Hugh Jackman in action as the most iconic member of the X-Men. Of course, it didn’t quite work out that way (which we predicted years ago), with the mutant now anchoring a billion-dollar grossing buddy flick with none other than Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool.
Yet, as wild as Deadpool & Wolverine is, they made it in a way where Logan can still serve as a powerful ending to Wolverine’s story, and indeed, it’s a movie that stands the test of time. In this episode of Marvel Revisited, written, edited and narrated by Kier Gomes, we dig into the making of one of the edgiest superhero movies of all time.
People may forget now just how controversial it was when it came out.

There are few characters that are as traumatized as the Wolverine in Marvel Comics. While his immortality and healing factors have brought him quite a lot of fortune, in the right hands, they can be just as dangerous to him. Over the years, fans have seen comic book writers get quite creative with how they torment the mutant.

Channing Tatum is still hoping to bring his 'Gambit' movie back to life five years after it was cancelled. The 44-year-old actor had initially hoped to play the Marvel Comics character in 2009's ' X-Men Origins: Wolverine' but he was unavailable for filming so the role went to Taylor Kitsch instead and Channing later signed up to revive the story in a stand alone movie but it spent years in development limbo before ultimately being shelved in 2019.Channing was given the chance to step into the character's shoes for a cameo appearance in this summer's blockbuster 'Deadpool and Wolverine' and he hopes it will breathe new life into his stalled superhero project. When asked if he still hopes the film will get made, he told Variety: "I sure hope so."From your mouth to God’s ears. Write it into existence, my friend. Please."Channing...

Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool had a long journey before joining the MCU in 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, which started in 2011's Wolverine Origins (officially titled X-Men Origins: Wolverine).
Reynolds spent years yearning to play Wade Wilson after the antihero described himself as looking like "Ryan Reynolds crossed with a Shar-Pei" in Marvel Comics' Cable and Deadpool #2 (Fabian Nicieza and Mark Brooks) from 2004.
He finally got that opportunity half a decade later when he joined Hugh Jackman for the Australian's first Wolverine solo movie under 20th Century Fox, which showed James Howlett/Logan's origin story. While it was far from the Deadpool fans now know and love, it got his foot in the proverbial door.
