Hollywood Commission Expands Board Of Directors With 3 New Members, Including FX Chief John Landgraf
The Hollywood Commission, the Anita Hill-led organization that spearheads collaborative efforts to end harassment and abuse in the entertainment industry, is expanding its board of directors.
Sister CEO Cindy Holland, Harvard professor Alan Jenkins, and FX boss John Landgraf join the board immediately, the commission announced on Wednesday. They will join Hill, as well as co-founders and fellow board members Kathleen Kennedy and Nina Shaw.
“We are grateful for the leadership, as well as the unique perspective and depth in content production and law, that Cindy, Alan, and John will be bringing to the board. As we set our agenda for the medium and long term, their brilliant minds and clear-eyed view of the state of the industry will be invaluable,” Hill, Kennedy and Shaw said in a joint statement.

FX and Disney+ Latin America have ordered a docuseries that will revolve around Club Necaxa, the beloved Mexican soccer team, with Eva Longoria and the “Welcome to Wrexham” duo of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney on board as executive producers and on-air stars.
The deal with FX/Disney+ comes three months after Reynolds and McElhenney joined Longoria as investors in Club Necaxa. Filming on the untitled series began today in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The team recently relocated to that city, known as “land of the good people,” after several rough seasons in Necaxa’s original home of Mexico City. The series will be bilingual in English and Spanish.
The untitled series is patterened after FX’s “Welcome to Wrexham” series that chronicled the revitalization of a Welsh soccer team after Reynolds and McElhenney purchased the club in 2021.

When the auditorium full of eager theater-goers filed in to watch Charlie Kelly’s magnum opus musical The Nightman Cometh, not one of them had any context for what they were watching or any way of knowing what insane twist would come next — least of all The Waitress.
By now, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season Four episode “The Nightman Cometh” is such a massive cultural phenomenon that the titular musical itself has all but outgrown its humble beginnings. When the series stars and co-creators Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day realized that the throwaway song performed by Dennis and Charlie in the Season Three episode “Sweet Dee’s Dating a Retarded Person” had become a bop in its own right and that fans were serenading each other with “Dayman / Aaa-aaahhhh / Fighter of the Nightman,” the idea arose to turn the gang’s failed single into a full-length...

If Brendan Schaub could write a joke as funny as any of those on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, maybe he’d finally headline at Joe Rogan’s club.
Rogan, the undisputed king of all podcasting and the self-professed defender of comedy integrity, has made many controversial moves in his position as the nucleus of the Manosphere, but for all the divisive figures ever booked on The Joe Rogan Experience, only one perennial guest has ever equally upset both sides of the culture wars — Brendan Schaub.
The former Mma fighter and current comedy attempter was able to carve a corner for himself in the dudebro podcasting racket in the early 2010s due to his close relationship with Rogan, and though the relationship between the two has been rumored to be rocky in recent years, Rogan gifting Schaub the opportunity to cut to the front of the line in the stand-up...

Fart jokes are generally regarded as the lowest kind of humor. But every now and then, someone will put a great deal of care into one, thus pulling off something that’s equal parts highbrow and lowbrow — kind of like a Michelin-star chef taking on the humble hot dog.
Here are five such finely crafted fart jokes from the sitcom world…
5 Marge Simpson in ‘The Simpsons’
In “Beyond Blunderdome,” a car saleswoman approaches the Simpsons family in the dealer lot and asks, “Thinking of saying goodbye to gas?” “You betcha!” Bart exclaims, before letting out a Homer-like belch. Marge corrects him, only to involuntarily fart and have to correct herself instead. “Well, that shut me up,” she mutters.
4 Eric Cartman in ‘South Park’

If the Emmys had an award category for “Best Meta Episode in A Sitcom About Psychotic Pennsylvania Bar Owners,” they’d still find a way to snub It’s Always in Philadelphia.
When you’re the stars, producers and writers of the longest-running live-action sitcom in American television history, every now and then, you have to take a good, hard look at your own formula and see what works and what doesn’t. Then, you have to take that self-examination and turn it into one of the best episodes in the history of TV comedy. While not exactly manual labor, acting can be quite physically strenuous, including for actors working in television. From the long working hours to arduous stunts and strain on mental health, television acting is hard work. These working conditions can occasionally lead to the performers becoming physically ill from their experiences, sometimes affecting the actors for the rest of their lives. In fact, some of the most iconic TV shows in the history of the medium have had notable instances where their actors have become sick from the experience.
Here are several major instances of actors becoming physically sick from their TV show roles. In many of these incidents, the afflicted actors pushed through, and their ill performance actually made final cut of the episodes, becoming a part of television broadcast history. But, as they say in Hollywood, the show must go on and these actors definitely demonstrated their full commitment...

For a country that proclaims American culture to be downright cancerous, Russia sure loves to turn our most beloved TV shows into an experience equivalent in entertainment value to a tumor biopsy.
It should come as no surprise to anyone familiar with stereotypes to learn that comedy writing, and, more specifically, sitcom creation, isn’t a natural talent of the Russian people. As such, Russian TV stations must import their comedies from abroad and repackage them with a domestic cast and crew in the hope that some small fraction of the humor makes it through the language and talent barriers. In fact, one of the most successful Russian sitcoms of all time isn’t even Russian — it’s an adaptation of Everybody Loves Raymond titled Voronin’s Family, which holds the Guinness World Record for the longest adapted television show in the world with 552 total episodes, more than double the number of the American original.

In an alternate timeline, Kaitlin Olson spent seven years as one of the most beloved cast members in Saturday Night Live history and Kristen Wiig constantly needs to remind herself that her husband and Ryan Reynolds are “just friends.”
The role of Deandre “Sweet Dee” Reynolds on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of those parts that, 16 seasons into the longest-running live-action sitcom in American television history, you can’t imagine could ever have been pulled off by anyone besides Olson. Much like how Michael Scott on The Office would have been unrecognizable if Bob Odenkirk nailed his audition and Steve Carell slept in that day, Olson’s contributions to the character elevated Dee far above the lines in the script and turned her into a completely different comedy beast from what Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day originally under-wrote for Dennis’ denigrated twin sister.

Judging from the reaction on social media, a lot of people are excited to rewatch the popular, and frequently misunderstood, sci-fi series.
While we mostly remember Lost for its dramatic storylines, wacky twists and improbably hot plane crash survivors, there was some comedy to be found in the show too. Case in point, Hurley’s dad was played by the great Cheech Marin, who somehow wasn’t responsible for creating the “Smoke Monster.”
But in retrospect, the most notable cameo for comedy fans was when It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney showed up in Season Three as “Aldo,” an armed guard working for the mysterious “Others.” We first see him reading a copy of Stephen Hawking’s...

The Office would have you believe that workplace pranks are lighthearted affairs full of Jell-o and fake glasses. Well, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia isn’t that kind of sitcom.
When the Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated and universally beloved movie star Danny DeVito signed on to appear in a loud, low-budget and indulgently offensive comedy series on FX in the mid-aughts, many critics and fans alike wondered what the hell such a successful actor and director was doing playing a lecherous lout on a little-known show that’s too crass to ever become a big hit. When a sitcom runs for a long time, there are inevitably times when a throwaway line from an early episode doesn’t necessarily align with the details unveiled in later seasons. In Seinfeld, for example, Jerry and George both make reference to siblings who are ultimately erased from the show’s continuity. Generally, these kinds of mistakes are forgivable — unless, apparently, you’re a writer for It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Like so many other shows, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has introduced a number of plot points that future developments contradicted or just flat-out ignored. But over the course of the series’ 17-year run, Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton and Charlie Day have gone out of their way to correct them, even going so far as to dedicate entire episodes and story arcs to setting the record straight.

Danny DeVito’s famous Trollfoot has finally returned to Twitter, but with a special Easter egg just for the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fans — this time, he botched it.
The 79-year-old film and TV icon has always had one of the more unusual social media presences in entertainment. With nothing left to prove and no interest in selling out his quirky sense of humor for a promo, DeVito and his Trollfoot (which is just his regular foot that he photographs bare in bizarre-to-mundane circumstances) are almost the anti-George Takei in a Twitter landscape where seemingly every celebrity post is driven by branding, engagement or both, especially for the more established entertainers of the older generation such as Star Trek’s resident reposter.

Every It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia fan knows that the show has been unjustly snubbed by the snooty Emmy voters every year for the last two decades, but Sweet Dee isn’t bothered — she’s been using the time to work on rebuffing her regurgitation.
Through its 16 seasons of world-class comedy that broke the record for longest-running live-action sitcom in American television history, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has earned a paltry three Emmy nominations, all in the slightly niche category of Outstanding Stunt Coordination for A Comedy Series or A Variety Program. What up? Are you ready for the best blooper reel ever?
For as talented as Rob McElhenney and the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia staff are behind the camera, there’s something special about those episodes when the characters themselves decide to don their directing caps. Whether Dennis, Mac, Charlie, Dee and Frank are shooting an insane political campaign promo, a terrorist threat video or a killer investment presentation, the number of lives that the one videotape in the group’s shared camera has lived is absurd, and it’s led to many of the best bits in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia history.
And, in a fresh outtake video from the classic It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season Eight episode “Frank’s Back in Business,” those chaotic Paddy’s Pub videotapes seem to be as much fun for the cast to film as they are for us to watch.

There’s been a changing of the guard at High Potential. The upcoming ABC drama has set Todd Harthan (The Resident) as its new showrunner, our sister site Deadline reports, following the departure of original showrunner Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Party Down).
Production on the Kaitlin Olson-led series has been paused during the search for a new showrunner, but it will reportedly resume next month. Thomas and High Potential‘s parting of ways, which was first announced earlier this month, was said to be “amicable.”

Mega-famous actor and director Mel Gibson may be known for his explosive racist tirades as much as he is for any of his blockbuster films, but, hey, at least he hasn’t done blackface — yet.
In a recent interview with the Inspire Me podcast, Gibson confirmed that he is currently in production on the fifth (official) installment of the Lethal Weapon series, which Gibson has been planning to direct and star in for a few years now. Gibson will take the reins from the franchise’s previous director, the late Richard Donner, and the star promised to fulfill Donner’s vision for the pentalogy. Said Gibson of Donner’s plans for Lethal Weapon 5, “He had gotten a fair way into the screenplay, so we’ve used what was there, and we kept poking at it, working at it a little. I’m pretty happy with it. It’s good.

Writer/director David Cronenberg is well known for his science fiction and horror films, with grotesque gore gags and body horror prevalent throughout much of his work. This is the man who brought us the nightmarish Brundlefly mutant in "The Fly" and the freaky surgery sex of "Crimes of the Future," but one of his most impressively shocking moments came early in his career: the head explosion in the 1981 movie "Scanners." In the film, 237 people have become "scanners," or beings capable of immense telepathic and psychokinetic powers. Early on in the film, powerful scanner Darryl Revok (Michael Ironside) uses his powers to explode the head of a rival scanner (Louis Del Grande), and it is truly grotesque. Gore shoots in all directions as the scanner's head explodes, his face trapped forever in a moment of surprise. It's gross, it's gory, and it's glorious. It was also surprisingly simple to create.

It’s fitting that one of the most anticipated fall TV shows has a title like High Potential. A fish-out-of-water tale with shades of The Rookie and Castle that stars the deft Kaitlin Olson, ABC’s newest dramedy procedural, written by Alias and Good Place vet Drew Goddard, is poised to be a breakout series. And Olson is ready. “It’s so different than anything I’ve done before,” she tells TV Guide Magazine, even though her protagonist Morgan Gillory — a single mom of three with a genius Iq — bears some resemblance to Sunny’s wise-cracking barfly “Sweet Dee” Reynolds. “I still love a scrappy character. Morgan’s incredibly intelligent, but it tortures her. She also is a wonderful mom who cares so much about her kids. It’s a fun departure from the degenerate characters I’ve played.” ABC/Disney Based on the French hit Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, this...

Fifteen years after Mac and Dennis lost the copyright for the incredible Dick Towel to The Lawyer, the iconic It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia merchandise is still going strong on the online market. It’s just too bad that Charlie was too illiterate to ever lock down the domain name for Kitten Mittens.
In the classic Season Five It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode “Paddy’s Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens,” the gang is surprised to learn that, for a time, some of their schemes actually work. When a merchandising convention comes to Philadelphia, the proprietors of Paddy’s Pub split up to work on their respective business ideas that they plan to pitch to potential investors, and a couple of them prove to be profitable — for The Lawyer, that is. When TV academy voters sit down to fill out their 2024 Emmy nominations ballots, they have to consider 73 shows for Best Comedy Series; this is down by 22 contenders from last year. As was the case last year, each member’s selections may not exceed the number of eventual nominations in a given category, which will be eight in this case.
On its quest for a second consecutive victory here, “The Bear” will have to fend off just two of its seven 2023 rivals: “Abbott Elementary” and “Only Murders in the Building.” Last year’s remaining contenders that did not air episodes during the June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024 eligibility period are “Barry,” “Jury Duty,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Wednesday,” the last of which is the only one known to have a new season in the works.

When The Good Place creator Mike Schur called Kaitlin Olson to convince her to take a guest role on an upcoming comedy series back in 2020 — the passion project he was producing from a trio of showrunners about a legendary female comedian staging a career resurgence — the actress says she was a little hesitant.
“I don’t like being a guest star on other people’s shows,” admits Olson. “It’s like being at a party where you don’t know anyone.”
But the role — as DJ, the troubled daughter of Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance on Max’s Hacks — was, as Schur promised, small but juicy. “The writing was so good and so smart,” says Olson of the first script she read, written by co-creators Lucia Aniello, Paul W. It’s probably for the best that Charlie Kelly would never be approved for financing on a brand new Ford F-150 — he doesn’t have the best track record with large vehicles and brake lines.
The American spirit can be summarized in three words, and they certainly are not “E Pluribus Unum.” I mean, imagine trying to sell a Chevy Silverado with Latin, for Christ’s sake. No, America is the land of “Rock, Flag and Eagle,” as described by the most illiterate wordsmith in the Birthplace of America. Back when Charlie decided that he would not be tread upon in the classic It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode “Charlie Goes America All Over Everybody’s Ass,” he psyched himself up with some inspiring patriotic imagery that culminated with him singing those three words with a throat full of liberty and an American flag wrapped around his special head.

There is no doubt that Fox has always been killing it with sitcoms that have become our favorite ones. These include Married... with Children, That '70s Show and the biggest animated hits in TV history, the cultish The Simpsons and Family Guy.
However, the network is also notorious for unfair cancellations of fan-favorite shows, and the sitcom we’re going to talk about also fell victim to Fox executives. However, it’s still hailed by fans who claim it was axed painfully right at its peak.
The show centers on Mickey, a reckless slacker who is intelligent but clearly lacks ambition. She spends her days hustling and looking for easy money, and that’s why she comes to her estranged, but wealthy sister, but there is a surprise waiting for her.
The sister and her billionaire husband flee to avoid a federal indictment, leaving Mickey with their three ill-mannered children.

Tom Bower, the veteran character actor best known for prominent turns on The Waltons and in Die Hard 2, has died. A family member confirmed the news to Deadline’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter. He was 86.
Bower never had what one might call a “breakout” part, but he was an actor one recognized from, well, everywhere. His more than 180 screen credits include appearances on The Rockford Files, Lou Grant, Quincy M.E., Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, NYPD Blue, The X-Files, Law & Order and many other TV staples of the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and early 2000s.
And he kept on working. In the past 15 years, Bower was on Ray Donovan, Bosch, Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, The Office and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also played the father of Bob Odenkirk’s character on Lucky Hank and had a part in Vince Gilligan’s El Camino, A Breaking Bad Movie.

Following The Big Bang Theory’s immense success, Young Sheldon went back to the past exploring Sheldon Cooper’s earlier years in his family house in Texas before he moved to California for better perspectives and met his best friend Leonard there.
With a significant time jump that the prequel makes, it was hardly possible to ever bring some of the original characters to Young Sheldon, yet the show proved the contrary by reuniting Sheldon’s younger and adult versions in the finale. However, the prequel also featured another major character that was seen in The Big Bang Theory, and this time it is indeed very hard to believe.

The upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot has generated significant buzz as one of the most anticipated projects currently in development. This film aims to revitalize the previously lackluster ‘Fantastic Four’ franchise, which received mixed reviews in its earlier iterations.
However, the timing of the movie’s release is somewhat precarious. Marvel Studios faces scrutiny due to a series of underwhelming projects in recent years, leading to waning fan interest. Marvel's First Family hasn't had much luck on screen. There was the infamous 1994 Fantastic Four movie produced by the late Roger Corman which never officially saw the light of day and then the big budget 2005 and 2007 movies starring Chris Evans, Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd and Michael Chiklis.
Those weren't great and were a product of their time; so, when a reboot from Chronicle director Josh Trank rolled around in 2015, there was a fair bit of excitement among fans.
The trailers promised a body-horror tale but studio-mandated reshoots turned it into a mess.
The team has sat on the shelf ever since, though that will finally change next year with Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four. Filmmaker Matt Shakman has assembled an impressive A-List cast, including Black Bird and Cruella star Paul Walter Hauser.
Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor admitted that those awful past efforts made him think twice about starring in this latest reboot.

Hauser, who recently earned an Emmy for his role in Black Bird, will play a not-yet-disclosed role in the project that features Pedro Pascal (Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Thing).
“Don’t think that didn’t weigh in as I was deciding whether or not to take the job,” Hauser says of the property’s checkered Hollywood past. “That movie has not fully been nailed just yet.”
He continues, “But I really do think the combination of the screenplay,...

As an encore to her first Emmy nomination for “Hacks” in Season 2, guest star Kaitlin Olson hit the jackpot in Season 3: “The Roast of Deborah Vance,” the first of three episodes in which Olson appears as DJ, the emotionally stunted daughter of famed comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart). In the episode, DJ relishes her opportunity to roast her comedian mother during a televised event, including zinging Deborah with a profane and immediately resonant catchphrase: “What a c–t.”
“I just couldn’t wait. I was counting down the days to do it. I was so excited,” Olson tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview when asked about the episode. “It’s just so good. It’s got everything. DJ is such a mess and she’s so vulnerable and making stupid decisions that she’s 100 percent standing by – and then she’s also correct in her assessment of the situation.

Here's a really strange random fact about me: I grew up with emetophobia, the intense fear of vomit and vomiting. The very idea of blowing chunks got my anxiety going, which is what makes my deep, abiding love for "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" kind of hilarious. You see, there is a lot of vomiting, gagging, and spitting up on "It's Always Sunny." There are some amazing puke-filled moments, of course, like Charlie (Charlie Day) spewing all over his date because he swallowed fake blood capsules, or Dennis (Glenn Howerton) barfing while dancing because he did a bunch of shots rapid-fire. It turns out that in the right circumstances, vomit can be really funny, and in the case of "It's Always Sunny," the funniest yakking usually comes courtesy of Sweet Dee, played by Kaitlin Olson.
Dee is often the one put through the grossest of gags, like getting stuck in...
