It’s a fairly packed month on Hulu this February thanks to the addition of some interesting TV shows from FX and ABC. While the streamer’s own original content is somewhat limited – Life + Beth is returning for season 2 – you can also catch the new series of Feud this month. The new installment in Ryan Murphy’s juicy anthology show is based on the bestseller Capote’s Women: A True Story of Love, Betrayal, and a Swan Song for an Era by Laurence Leamer, and tells the story of Truman Capote’s betrayal and fall-out with New York’s most glamorous socialites. The cast is absolutely stacked, with Naomi Watts, Diane Lane, Chloë Sevigny and Calista Flockhart all swearing delicious revenge on Tom Hollander’s Capote.
Also via Hulu in February comes the third season of Abbott Elementary, along with new episodes of The Connors, The Good Doctor, Will Trent,...

We might be entering the dog days of summer but Hulu isn’t slowing down. The streamer’s list of new releases for August 2023 is a pretty impressive collection of content.
The biggest Hulu original this month is season 3 of true crime comedy Only Murders in the Building on Aug. 8. This time around Meryl Streep and Paul Rudd are joining the already-stacked cast that features Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. This season’s central murder appears to take place at a theater (outside the building) but I think we’ll let it slide.
That’s far from the only worthwhile original in August as Aug. 2 sees the premiere of the third and final season of superb comedy Reservation Dogs. That will be followed by South Korean sci-fi series Moving on Aug. 9, Solar Opposites season 4 on Aug. 14, and A Murder at the End of the World on Aug. 29. Of course,...

It’s been 11 years since The Menu director Mark Mylod last directed a feature film, and his return to the big screen has gone better than he ever could have expected. His epicurean horror-comedy starring Ralph Fiennes, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult has not only been met with critical acclaim, but it also scored Searchlight’s biggest opening weekend — 15.2 million — at the worldwide box office since the heyday of Slumdog Millionaire (2008).
Mylod’s last film, the Anna Faris and Chris Evans-led romcom, What’s Your Number? (2011), didn’t connect with critics or audiences, so Mylod decided to change up his approach and focus on television. He went on to direct the pilots of Once Upon a Time, Shameless and The Affair, before finding a home at HBO by way of six episodes of Game of Thrones and 13 episodes of Succession, which netted him two Emmys as executive producer.

Director Mark Mylod's directorial body of work has taken him from the world of prestige HBO television to the antics of Sacha Baron Cohen ("Ali G Indahouse"). While his career has been mostly steeped in the world of television, Mylod has managed to direct some feature films as well, with his last being a rom-com vehicle starring Anna Faris and Chris Evans ("What's Your Number?"). As his first feature in over a decade, however, "The Menu" is shaping up to be a twisted dish I can't wait to devour.
Much like "Barbarian," the marketing strategy of "The Menu" has been playing it very close to the chest, offering mere morsels of juicy information in favor of the four-course meal awaiting us in November. Reviews out of the festival circuit have labeled the film as "delightfully wicked," which only makes me even more excited for what's to come.

Star-studded newcomers 50/50, Dream House and What's Your Number? all finished behind Courageous yesterday, which managed to attract a solid Christian audience on Friday. Still, even Courageous didn't have what it took to beat last weekend's leaders Moneyball, Dolphin Tale and The Lion King. Moneyball took the top spot for the second Friday in a row, dropping 43 percent to an estimated $3.85 million for an eight-day total of $29.8 million. That decline was slightly worse than last year's The Social Network (40 percent) but a vast improvement over Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (53 percent). The Brad Pitt baseball flick should finish the weekend with around $12 million, which probably won't be good enough for first place over Dolphin Tale. Dolphin Tale dipped a light 32 percent to an estimated $3.47 million, bringing its eight-day total to $26.7 million. Based on past similar movies, it should move up to first place by Sunday with a weekend take of roughly $14 million.

With no fewer than six movies fighting for the top spot, it's shaping up to be a hectic weekend at the box office. Anna Faris comedy What's Your Number? reaches around 3,100 screens at 3,002 theaters, while Daniel Craig thriller Dream House opens at roughly 2,850 screens at 2,660 locations and cancer comedy 50/50 debuts on around 2,600 screens at 2,458 theaters. Also, Christian flick Courageous hits approximately 1,400 screens at 1,161 locations, though it's unlikely to be in contention for the lead. Last week's top movies The Lion King (in 3D), Moneyball and Dolphin Tale have all generated solid word-of-mouth and should still be in the hunt. With most of these movies poised for low-teen millions (with the likely exception of Courageous), any one that reaches $15 million should be in line for a win. What's Your Number? is the first Anna Faris vehicle since 2008's The House Bunny, which opened to $14.5 million on its way to $48.2 million. This year, the studios are hoping women can bring in the raunchy R-rated laughs their male counterparts already can. While Warner Bros. will take another bite of the bankable apple with "The Hangover Part II," their competitors are rolling their dice with female driven laffers with Universal's "Bridesmaids," Sony's "Bad Teacher" and Fox's "What's Your Number" all in the pipeline. Female driven comedies--that aren't rom-coms--are already a hard sell and it's no surprise that execs are fine tuning the films up until the last minute. You can bet that the SXSW, "work-in-progess" screening of "Bridesmaids" was as much about gauging…...

Walt Disney Pictures announced a set of significant release schedule changes this morning, beginning with moving Monsters Inc. 2 up two weeks. It also removed two potentially high-profile movies from its calendar, along with adding a high school comedy to its spring 2011 roster. Monsters Inc. 2 has been shifted from Nov. 16, 2012 to Nov. 2, 2012, shortly after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (Part Two) staked its claim on the Nov. 16 date yesterday. About 15 minutes before Disney's announcement, Paramount Pictures pushed DreamWorks Animation's tentatively-titled The Guardians from Nov. 2, 2012 to Wed., Nov. 21, meaning all three currently scheduled Nov. 2012 movies have shifted dates in the past 24 hours. More impactful than the minor Monsters Inc. 2 change, though, was Disney's removal of newt and Beauty and the Beast (3D) from the schedule. Pixar's newt was previously dated Summer 2012, though it shouldn't come as a surprise that it's been removed considering Pixar already has Brave slated for June 15, 2012. Beauty and the Beast...

Dave Annable, who stars on ABC's "Brothers and Sisters," is in negotiations to join "What's Your Number?" the Anna Faris romantic comedy at New Regency.
Mark Mylod is directing "Number," which is being produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson of Contrafilm.
"Number" centers on a woman (Faris) who treks through her sexual past to find Mr. Right, exploring the idea of sexual quotas and whether such numbers matter. Jennifer Crittenden and Gabrielle Allan wrote the script based on Karyn Bosnak's book.
Annable steps into the shoes initially worn by Matt Bomer, who dropped out because of a scheduling conflict with his hit USA show "White Collar." Annable will play Faris' dream guy.
Among the actors lined up as Faris' exes are Chris Evans, Zachary Quinto and Joel McHale.
Annable, repped by CAA and manager Sue Leibman, has been in working in TV for the several years, also starring in Fox's "Reunion" before "Brothers.
