... happening to both, are women more emotionally involved in these instances than men
bjarias18 July 2024
.... original French title Chouchou translates in English to Favorite, here the mini-series is called Sweetheart ... exceptionally well cast, written, acted, produced... it's a fair depiction of a thirty-seven year old wife, teacher, mother of two small children quickly falling under the spell of a seventeen year old disadvantaged youth, beginning what turns into a very destructive affair with her student

... it happens, we've seen-aware it happening time again in real life... when it's a woman who's a mother, it plays out more dramatically... why are there those damaged individuals crossing lines known not to be crossed... what could possibly be any positive outcome... needing-must-being-more than just sex, how do we let ourselves be trapped by these unshakable urges to do the unthinkable

... it would more likely benefit from a second viewing, to pick up on insights missed from the first viewing... kudos to youtube for showing the entire series.... and why are there no worthwhile detailed reviews by seasoned critics to be found anywhere online.

Well Written

Warning: Spoilers
This series was a well written story of a taboo love affair. I rarely think this type of affair is worth my time. The story grabs you and doesn't let go holding one's interest till the very last frame. All the characters had lots of background to make them believable and added depth to what was going on. I must say that when one steps back in looking rooting for them or not at where or how it would end I knew a splendid ending was on the way. A couple of points didn't really add up. The first was in her going to keep the child after she got pregnant. I thought there would be no court system that would give her custody of her 2 kids after they learned of her behavior with a student in her household. She spoke so highly of them, as nothing was more important than there well being. Yet having a child all but guarantees she loses them. The second thing was she put her husband through the ringer expecting all would be ok with him after she chose keeping the child and hurting not just him but there kids also. I recommend this series to see something different.

After 2 episodes. Wow.

After 2 episodes, this is super super fun. The agressor is the victim. The victim is the agressor. Is this love? Very very good. We are on the edge. Like reading a P. Senecal book kind of edge. What will happen next!

The rest is mostly filler (i am talking about my review). Please skip if you are still reading this. My review was only the first paragraph but I have to fill all this to submit it. This is insane. This is bad. I like short reviews. Where is this going? I submitted quit a few reviews. What is always that long. I don't think so. I would have quit I think. Anyway. This is a good Quebecois Serie yet. Watch it. I am loving it right now.

Speechless

A masterpiece -and I don't throw that word around easily. The script was fresh, smart and humane. It touched important issues without trying to be didactic.

It's not your classic love story, so if you are looking for that I am not sure you'd be able to understand the beauty of the show or the meanings behind them; but if you are like me, and want something darker yet humane and at time sweet, then this is the show for you. It's dark, twisted, sensual, and yet it touches something inside you at the moment you were least expecting it. Just when you think you've made up your mind about a character, there you are changing it again.

The purpose of the series is not to expose you to a 'sick' view on sexual exploitation, or grooming -but to show you how two people get tangled up together in life, how even the smallest choice can affect our lives long-term, how relationships at their core are inherently very easy but it's societal standards and expectations that make them harder, how monotony can ruin a marriage, and how what doesn't kill us doesn't necessarily make us stronger.

Again, it's a masterpiece; the cinematography and the direction are great (and at times dream-like), the performances are astounding -the show is definitely worth the watch, although it might be a bit hard for metropolitan French speakers to understand or grow accustomed enough to the Québécois accent to be able to finish or even watch the series. My Parisian ear got used to the accents after the 2nd episode.

Way better than the Hollywood version

I am speechless. I think for a while I won't watch anything in order to digest what I watched. Everyone from the little kids to the characters with lesser screen time than 20 minutes in total touched my heart.

This isn't just about a lust between two ethically unusual people, its also about exploration of human feelings. More you pay attention more deeper you dive into their lives, personalities.

I feel like I just finished a long aired show with 6 seasons each episode an hour long. The acting, camera work, script, dialogs work in harmony.

There are maybe some people see this as grooming or an advertisement for pedophilia I suggest those to rethink and watch this show from the perspective of each characters. Even from the eyes of the children can say a lot more.

I watched the American version "A Teacher" years ago and I can confidently say that the Canadian version is incomprehensibly far superior in every possible way. So if you can't decide and are okay with reading subtitles for a couple of hours then this one should be your choice.

Warning: Spoilers
Just stayed up till 5am to finish binge watching this on Channel 4 (UK) via Walter Presents and I have to agree with the other reviewers ... just wow. It's absolutely excellent, showing all manner of human frailties in a very grown up way. So well cast, well acted, great script - nothing felt cheesy or irrelevant, everyone and every line felt needed. My one and only issue is, did anyone else feel slightly disappointed with the ending? Spoiler alert - I felt they could have really made a go of things at the end, as people would have come to accept them eventually but maybe this just made it more true to life, in that not every story has a happy ending. Either way, I thoroughly enjoyed watching.
