In multiple pictures posted to Instagram on Tuesday, Sam Taylor-Johnson showed off her cut husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson while they vacationed.
In the photos, Sam, 57, and Aaron, 34, posed on a cliff overlooking the ocean, smiling at the camera. Aaron shirtless with washboard abs, Sam held him close, both arms around him.
The couple has been married for 12 years. They were wed in 2012 after they met on the set of Sam’s 2009 film Nowhere Boy, which starred Aaron. The two share daughters Wylda, 14, and Romy, 12.

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan’s fifth collaboration has been shrouded in secrecy since it was announced in January. Now eager film fans are getting their first look at “Sinners” — and all its bloody goodness. The film opens March 7, 2025 from Warner Bros.
The highly-anticipated horror thriller is based on an original script by Coogler, with the project set in the 1930s Jim Crow era-South and filmed earlier this year in the New Orleans area. But beyond those basic details, everything about the project — from the title to its plot — had been kept under wraps. Then, on Monday, the supernatural thriller was announced to be titled “Sinners.” Later, Jordan shared the film’s poster on social media, with the caption, “Dance with the devil…and he’ll follow you home.”
The film’s official description sets the scene: “Trying to leave their troubled lives behind, twin brothers (Jordan) return to their hometown to start again,...

Marisa Abela is not well, bitch. Not just because the third season of her hit HBO series “Industry” is averaging 1.6 million cross-platform viewers per episode and was recently renewed for a fourth season, but also because one of the show’s fans happens to be a TV personality she’s a fan of herself. In a recent interview with The Cut, Abela revealed the “Real Housewife” who reached out over social media to show her support and some other sources of entertainment for when she’s not lighting up screens big and small.
“I love and watch most of the ‘Housewives’ franchises, which is really fun because Dorinda Medley is watching ‘Industry’ right now and Dm-ing me live updates. It’s the biggest thing ever,” said Abela. “It was so funny because she was messaging me about it while I was in Venice with very important and impressive people in my industry,...

It’s an often-touted cliche that a great way to win an Oscar is for a performer to portray a real-life person. Cillian Murphy won Best Actor earlier this year for playing J. Robert Oppenheimer in “Oppenheimer,” Jessica Chastain took home Best Actress in 2022 for her portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye,” and Rami Malek won Best Actor in 2019 for his depiction of Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
It’s curious, then, that Best Actress has often been rewarded to performers playing fictional characters rather than real people. Over the past decade, 28 of the 50 nominations have been for original turns, with a whopping seven of those winning out of 10. Here’s the complete breakdown.
Two out of 2024’s Best Actress nominees were nominated for playing fictional people. The others were Annette Bening (“Nyad”), Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”), and Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”). However,...

When Robbie Williams told an interviewer that he felt like a performing monkey, he didn’t mean it literally. But that’s exactly how “The Greatest Showman” director Michael Gracey interprets the remark in “Better Man,” an off-the-wall musical biopic that surely would have seemed banal — as opposed to downright bananas — had it featured a flesh-and-blood actor in the Robbie Williams role.
Gracey takes audiences through all the expected beats of Williams’ career, from his breakthrough as a member of Take That to his record-breaking solo concert at Knebworth, but does so with a CG chimpanzee standing in for the Britpop bad boy. Against all odds, that gimmick works, distinguishing the project from so many other cookie-cutter pop-star hagiographies. If you want to fawn over this boy-band backup singer-turned-solo superstar for four hours, check out the “Robbie Williams” doc series on Netflix. But if you want to see a chimp doing coke with Oasis,...

After a year when Hollywood strikes stripped festival red carpets of their stars, the 81st Venice Film Festival marked a return to oh-so-glamorous form Wednesday night with an A-list opening night.
The Venice fans, many of whom spent up to 10 hours in the searing Italian heat for a glimpse, rarely stopped screaming as one star after the other shimmied past the paparazzi and into the Sala Grande for the opening night ceremony, and world premiere of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Burton and the starry cast of his long-awaited sequel — including Jenna Ortega, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Defoe, Justin Theroux and Monica Bellucci — grabbed the lion’s share of attention, but there were plenty of whoops and hollers for the other celebrities on offer, including French acting icon Isabelle Huppert, president of this year’s Venice festival jury, and Cate Blanchett, in town for the premiere of her Apple TV+ series Disclaimer.

Few cinematic characters have left as big of an impression as Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver’s iconic “Alien” survivor, who led four films in the franchise and left behind some massive shoes to fill for everyone who’s come since. In “Alien: Romulus,” that’s a young cast of franchise newcomers, led by “Priscilla” and “Civil War” star Cailee Spaeny.
Directed by “Don’t Breathe” and “Evil Dead” filmmaker Fede Álvarez, the latest installment heads back between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens,” introducing a young group of friends desperate to escape their grungy mining colony. You will, of course, recognize the Xenomorph — H.R. Giger’s inimitable alien creature — but for everyone else, here’s a handy guide to the “Alien: Romulus” cast and characters.

Musical biopics have picked up in activity as of late. Recently, the Bob Marley movie One Love encapsulated a notable story from the Raggae icon’s life. This year has seen the release of Back to Black, which told the story of Amy Winehouse. And this Christmas will see the premiere of A Complete Unknown, which brings James Mangold back to the music world with Timothée Chalamet occupying the shoes of Bob Dylan. Not to mention, in the future, we’re getting a Bruce Springsteen film with Jeremy Allen White as The Boss, and Sam Mendes is bringing The Beatles’ story to theaters across four feature films.
Deadline is now reporting that a Boy George biopic is now in development over at TriStar. It’s still in the early stages, but the movie is set to be written by scribe J.C. Lee, who co-wrote the film adaptation of his own play Luce.

For music biopic fans, today's turning into a real doozy. Earlier, we learnt that Morgan Neville's bricks-and-beats Lego Pharrell Williams movie Piece By Piece is set to close this year's London Film Festival in October. And now we're getting word via THR that Wicked director Jon M. Chu is set to turn his attention from one misunderstood girlboss with a banging set of pipes to another as he's signed on to direct a new Britney Spears biopic at Universal.
The studio behemoth fought off stiff competition to land the rights to the 'I'm A Slave 4 U' singer's 2023 memoir The Woman In Me, in which the American music icon offers a raw and unfiltered account of her life, career, mental health struggles, and the perils of child stardom. Last year, there was a massive uproar when “Barbie” filmmaker Greta Gerwig was left off of the Best Director lineup at the Oscars, despite the blockbuster movie reaping eight total nominations including Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay (for Gerwig and Noah Baumbach). “Anatomy of a Fall” helmer Justine Triet, who won the prize for Best Original Screenplay, did wind up earning a directing bid, and it was only the ninth such time in Academy Awards history for a woman. So will the upcoming 2025 Oscars include any female Best Director nominees? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s Oscar Experts.

Britney Spears‘ “If U Seek Amy” came out at a time when Amy Winehouse was one of the most famous and controversial singers alive. The tune might allude to Winehouse’s public image. Here’s a look at the different elements at play in one of the most unusual pop hits of all time.
Britney Spears’ ‘If U Seek Amy’ aligns with Amy Winehouse’s public image
“If U Seek Amy” is based around some naughty wordplay. You might find a profane message hidden between the lines if you say the song’s title with just the right cadence. Ultimately, Spears used the song to assert her own attractiveness while sassily dismissing the press who had been attacking her for so long.
The use of the name “Amy” in the track could be a reference to Winehouse. The “Rehab” singer dealt with some of the same personal struggles as Spears,...

Vivendi, the parent company of French pay TV banner Canal+ Group, saw its 2024 first-half revenues reach €9.05 billion ($9.8 billion), a 5.8% year-on growth. The media conglomerate also posted a 98.4% spike in second-quarter revenues.
Lagardère, the media, publishing and travel retail conglomerate which was acquired last year, as well as Canal+ Group, bolstered revenues. Vivendi also boasted an Ebita of $671 million — 39.3% up compared with the first half of 2023, driven by the consolidation of Lagardère and the growth of Havas. At constant currency and perimeter, Ebita increased by 13.5%, while adjusted net income reached $357 million.
Canal+ Group’s revenues went up by 4.6% to $3.2 billion, helped by TV operations in mainland France and overseas. Revenues from Canal+’s film and TV group Studiocanal also increased by 8.6%, thanks in part to the performance of Amy Winehouse biopic “Back to Black” which was released on April 24 and has sold around the world.

Timothée Chalamet embodies the Nobel Prize-winning legend in James Mangold’s 60s biopic. Check out the A Complete Unknown trailer below.
It’s been no secret that Timothée Chalamet and James Mangold have been working on a Bob Dylan biopic for what feels like a lifetime, so it’s refreshing to discover that A Complete Unknown will be arriving in cinemas sooner than we originally thought.
With the year quickly passing by with no word on the film, the safe bet was to assume Searchlight would go for a release sometime in 2025. According to the release alongside the film’s first trailer today though, it’s opening in the US this December – just in time for young Chalamet to get on his awards campaign.

11 years on from very publicly — and very prematurely — announcing his retirement, prolific American auteur Steven Soderbergh continues to be one of the biggest and busiest filmmaker in the business. And whilst the Ocean's movie mastermind's most recent effort, horror-thriller Presence, has yet to officially hit cinemas following its Sundance premiere earlier this year, that hasn't stopped ol' Soderbergh from setting a release date for his next film. Per Deadline's reporting, Soderbergh's Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender starring spy drama Black Bag — which we first found out about back in January — is set to hit cinemas on 14 March, 2025.
Written by Soderbergh's Kimi collaborator and Jurassic Park screenwriting legend David Koepp, precious little is known about Black Bag's plot as of yet — although we'd confidently hazard a guess that the title's not just Soderbergh reminding himself which week's bins to put out. What we do know however is that the...

Studiocanal is moving into the Big Apple.
The Paris-based production-distribution house will launch an office New York City, with Anne Chérel promoted to Chief Commercial Officer to oversee the base.
Studiocanal, which is in throws of making Paddington in Peru, already has an office in LA and a stake in Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman’s U.S.-based The Picture Company. The NYC office will focus on work with American distribution partners.
According to the Canal+-owned company, the plans form part of a strategy to “systematically” combine distribution and global sales of all of its film projects, working with third-party distributors. Besides the third Paddington movie, which is being released in partnership with Sony Pictures, Back to Black is being released with Focus Features, We Live in Time and Huntington with A24 and Wicked Little Letters with Sony Pictures Classics. “Advanced discussions” with an American partner around Paris Has Fallen are happening.

Nick Cave has written many, many songs. But lately, he’s been at odds with the process, calling songwriting “a fucking nightmare” in a new interview.
Speaking to Mojo, the musician expressed discomfort with the act of sitting down and writing a song. “I don’t like writing songs. To write a song is this deeply mysterious, abstract, anxiety-ridden process that’s just not fun,” Cave said. “Playing around with the kid is fine but to get the kid out is a fucking nightmare. So I put it off until I can’t put it off any further.”
Against all those obstacles, Cave still managed to bust out 10 songs for his forthcoming album with his band the Bad Seeds, Wild God, which arrives on August 30th. While the air of Wild God is one that is both “complicated” and “joyous and infectious,” Cave also opened up about his heartbreaking 2019 album Ghosteen,...

Eddie Murphy’s career has had more ups and downs than an elevator, but his resurgence as a straight-to-streaming movie star in the past few years has given him the juice to revisit some of the biggest hits of his past. Three years ago, there was “Coming 2 America” on Prime Video. Now, 30 years after “Beverly Hills Cop III,” he’s back again with “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” which is streaming on Netflix.
The fourth movie brings motor-mouthed Motor City cop Axel Foley back to La La Land to rescue his daughter, Jane (Taylour Paige), with his new partner, Beverly Hills detective Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), who’s also Jane’s ex-boyfriend. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot all reprise their long-ago roles, with Kevin Bacon joining the lineup as a police captain. “Axel F” isn’t going to win any Oscars, but it does deserve...

Filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson, 57, posted a rare intimate photo with her husband, actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 34, on Instagram Monday. The image, taken at the Glastonbury Festival, shows the couple embracing, with Sam wearing a khaki Marfa Stance jacket and Aaron sporting a denim jacket over a white t-shirt.
The post comes after Sam recently addressed public interest in the couple’s 23-year age difference. In a May interview, she expressed surprise at the ongoing fascination with their relationship, which began when they met on the set of Nowhere Boy in 2009. They married in 2012.
“The interest was more intense when we first got together 14 years ago,” Sam told BBC Radio 4’s This Cultural Life program. “People want to understand things when they can’t fathom a certain love story that doesn’t fit in a box.”
Sam noted that while public curiosity has diminished over time, it tends to resurface during press events.

The Savannah College of Art and Design is again bringing a generous helping of Southern hospitality to France’s Luberon Valley for the Scad Lacoste Film Festival, which runs June 27 to 29. Now in its third year, the fest was conceived as a top-up highlight for college students doing their semester abroad at Scad’s sumptuous campus in Lacoste, an inexcusably picturesque medieval village in the heart of Provence.
“[Scad founder and president] Paula Wallace always wants to make sure our students have access to the best of everything,” says Christina Routhier, executive director of Scad Theaters and Festivals. “The focus [at Scad Lacoste] is on film majors: acting, directing, production, costume design. So it was a perfect fit to bring in a film festival.”
The event is a complement to the school’s long-running main fest in Savannah, Georgia, which runs Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. Attracting talent to Lacoste, with its Instagram-ready cobblestone streets and lavender fields, hasn’t been a problem.

(Credit: Studiocanal)
„Wicked Little Letters“, „Back to Black“ oder „Ella und der schwarze Jaguar“.

Something very weird happened at the same time. “Godzilla Minus One,” which had a long-delayed appearance in home formats, made it to #1 both at Netflix and on VOD ($5.99 rental) in its first week. By week two, it fell to #6 at Netflix, while dropping from the top spot at iTunes to #7.
Netflix acquired “Hit Man” for $20 million last year when it premiered at Venice and Toronto to great interest. Reviewed (82 Metacritic) at the level or ahead of most of the streamer’s late-year awards-bait films, the action comedy about a moonlighting professor working undercover for New Orleans police has been #1 for the last three days. Unlike most Netflix originals, does it have staying power?

Updated: Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die pummeled pre-weekend opening projections, coming in with a $104.6M global bow, including $48.6M from the international box office. While the overseas debut is slightly off 2020’s Bad Boys for Life which did $50.3M in like-for-like offshore markets at today’s exchange rates, that film had strong legs. Either way, Ride or Die‘s start gave some much needed oomph to summer turnstiles. Its launch is 58% bigger than Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
The Will Smith/Martin Lawrence reteam from directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah was driven overseas by Europe with $19.3M across the region. It set new regional records for the Bad Boys franchise in Latin America and the Middle East with $10M and $9.5M, respectively.
Of the 60 markets released this session, the UK leads with $4.9M (+ 31% over Furiosa). Mexico was next with $4.2M, followed by Germany at $3.7M (2.5x...

The “Alien” franchise is going back to basics with “Alien: Romulus.” A new trailer makes it clear that writer-director Fede Álvarez is emphasizing the claustrophobic sci-fi horror of a spaceship overrun by vicious aliens, like Ridley Scott’s 1979 film that started it all.
“Alien: Romulus” is set between the events of “Alien” and “Aliens,” and follows a group of young space colonizers who, while on a scavenging run on a seemingly abandoned space station, encounter a terrifying alien presence. The intense trailer shows off facehuggers, chestbursters, and references to earlier “Alien” films.
The film is led by Cailee Spaeny (“Civil War”), who is taking the Sigourney Weaver-type role, as seen by her recreation of the iconic image of the xenomorph in Weaver’s face. The cast also includes David Jonsson (“Industry”), Archie Renaux (“Shadow and Bone”), Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”), Spike Fearn (“Back to Black”), and newcomer Aileen Wu.
