With movies like the revenge-via-circular-saw High Tension and the skin-shredding Piranha remake, director Alexandre Aja has memorably dunked his characters in the blood bucket. But Aja’s next project, an adaptation of The 9th Life of Louis Drax, is more a supernatural thriller than a blood-and-bones picture, and principal photography on the film has now begun.

With the announcement of a possible sequel to It’s a Wonderful Life, the Internet is abuzz with everyone and anyone’s opinion. But the 1946 Jimmy Stewart-starring film isn’t the first holiday classic to get the sequel treatment. Some are just as spirited as their predecessors; others are the cinematic equivalent to getting coal in your stocking.
We break down seven sequels to holiday favorites to see how they fare before It’s a Wonderful Lie: The Rest of the Story joins their ranks.

I just got back from seeing The Hunger Games: Catching Fire to see the Internet alive with rage as Variety broke the news Frank Capra's theatrical failure that was only later deemed a classic once it was seen on television, It's a Wonderful Life, just might get a sequel. Star Partners and Hummingbird Prods. are collaborating on production of a sequel to the 1946 feature with a current title of It's a Wonderful Life: The Rest of the Story, which will center on the grandson of James Stewart's George Bailey who will be visited by an angel to show him how better off the world would be had he never been born. Waitc Whatc That doesn't sound uplifting at allc Oh, I see, it's something of A Christmas Carol meets sequel very few people will care about, sort of like amazon asin="B008VPBZZ0" text="A Christmas Story 2...

The holidays have certain entertainment traditions it just wouldn't be the holidays without: Rudolph, Frosty, the Grinch ... and Ralphie.
The wide-eyed boy who literally dreams of finding a Red Ryder Bb gun under the tree -- despite the famous warning, "You'll shoot your eye out" -- spends a lot of time in homes nationwide at the yuletide, thanks especially to the now-traditional 24-hour marathon that TBS will give "A Christmas Story" again starting Monday, Dec. 24.
The nostalgic, Jean Shepherd-inspired 1983 comedy made a young star of Peter Billingsley, now a 41-year-old producer-director ("Four Christmases," "Couples Retreat," TBS' "Sullivan & Son") who still has a big place in his heart for the film and his classic Ralphie role.
"There's a very loyal fan base for that movie," he acknowledges to Zap2it. "Those who like it know it and quote it, and it's a part of the family tradition of Christmas for them.

We've seen Hollywood execs make a lot of terrible decisions lately. I don't think we've recovered from the recent straight-to-dvd release of A Christmas Story 2, for example, which takes place six years after the first film. Someone paid for that movie with their soul. With that in mind, we watched a trailer for Home Alone (with a Vengeance) and with mouths agape, we truly believed someone out there gave a movie about an adult Kevin McCallister the green light. Yes, the film is clearly over the top, but just enough so that we were convinced a producer was shilling for his final paycheck before the bank foreclosed on his house. The clip comes from comedy filmmaking group Boo Ya Pictures. They recently spoofed This Is 40 (their version is for...

Despite its numerical designation, the recently released A Christmas Story 2 isn’t the only way to see the continuing adventures of Ralphie Parker. Did you know, for instance, that Jean Shepherd — whose writings served as the basis for A Christmas Story and several other Ralphie tales — actually reunited with director Bob Clark for My Summer Story back in 1994? Or that Shepherd himself appeared in other TV versions of his works, acting as a Greek chorus to the homespun proceedings? If you’ve never seen Shepherd — or didn’t realize you did in A Christmas Story (he’s the man at [...]...

If you like Christmas, than chances are you've seen A Christmas Story at least a half-dozen times and often catch yourself pronouncing "fragile" with a bad Italian accent the way Darren McGavin does in the movie. It's way too early to start watching Christmas movies in general, but I'm not sure it will ever be the right time to watch the trailer for A Christmas Story 2, the "official sequel" to the Bob Clark classic that, it might not surprise you, has gone directly to a DVD and Blu-Ray release, coming October 30. But I had to watch the trailer, so you may as well suffer along with me, wondering why on earth the time has come for a sequel to the 1983 A Christmas Story, and what happened to Daniel Stern that he's gone from Home Alone to taking a role in this. It's a tragic journey, but one we must take together. Take a look below. I'm not crazy about baby boomer nostalgia even under the best of circumstances, and A Christmas Story was kind of pushing it to begin with; returning to the 1940s, or...

A Christmas Story 2 is the “official sequel” to the original Christmas classic that is rightfully going straight to Blu-ray/DVD on October 30th and will hopefully be forgotten immediately.
Directed by Brian Levant (Jingle All the Way), A Christmas Story 2 stars Braeden Lemasters (Easy A) as Ralphie with Stacey Travis (Ghost World) playing the mother and Daniel Stern (Home Alone) as the Old Man. The trailer looks really bad, it’s like a checklist of things they want you to remember from the first movie – then why not just watch that again? Now I’m angry.

It's the gift that keeps on giving... for Warner Brothers, that is! As we reported last month, a new direct-to-dvd sequel to the holiday classic A Christmas Story is hitting stores this October. The official trailer has arrived online this week and it looks like a complete train wreck. Braeden Lemasters (Men of a Certain Age) is playing an older, dorkier version of Ralphie without any of the pathos, while Daniel Stern plays a gruff, unfunny Old Man. Pratfalls abound, and adding insult to injury, they've gone out of their way to call this an "official sequel"... a bit of a stretch considering that writer Jean Shepherd died back in 1999. A Christmas Story 2 hits stores on October 30th; check out the trailer after the jump.

Some people would say that starting your day with a trailer that attempts to destroy any fond memories you have for a holiday classic is the only way.
Luckily for you, there is this new trailer for "A Christmas Story 2," a continuation of the adventures of Ralphie, which just reeks of a poorly thought out cash-in.
You can watch in sadness after the jump.

We previously told you that Warner Bros decided to shut down Warner Premiere, it's straight-to-video division. But before the doors close for good, Warner Premiere will release "A Christmas Story 2." The film is being advertised as the official sequel to the 1983 Christmas classic, and once again revolves around Ralphie (Braeden Lemasters), who is now a teenager and has his sights set on a new toy for Christmas: a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline Convertible. Daniel Stern plays the father. "A Christmas Story 2" will hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on October 30th. Check out the trailer below. Trailer:...

I don't know who thought that it would be a good idea to make a sequel to the classic 1983 film A Christmas Story, but it looks terrible. If they wanted a sequel they could have at least made a good film! A Christmas Story 2 is being labeled an "Official Sequel". Back in 1994 another sequel was attempted called It Runs in the Family, which later released on DVD under the title My Summer Story. That was a crappy sequel as well.
Here's the Synopsis:
The original, traditional, one-hundred-percent, red-blooded, two-fisted, All-American Christmas continues five years later, with Ralphie (Braeden Lemasters), Randy (Valin Shinyei), Mom (Stacey Travis), and the Old Man (Daniel Stern). This time, Ralphie has his eyes fixed on a car. But trouble is sure to follow.

Ever wondered what happened to Ralphie from A Christmas Story? Of course you didn't, but that didn't stop Warner Bros. from cooking up a sequel to the beloved holiday classic. The sequel is going straight to BluRay and will arrive on October 30, just days before the Broadyway musical adaptation of the 1983 classic. The sequel follows Ralphie as a teenager who has clearly upgraded his wish list in the new film as he yearns for a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline convertible. Some things haven't changed though. Triple dog dares and Ralphie's dad, played here by Daniel Stern, are carried over from the first film. A Christmas Story 2 stars Braeden Lemasters (Easy A) as Ralphie. Are you looking forward to seeing this sequel or are you already loading up your Red Ryder Bb gun to...

Warner Bros has shut down Warner Premiere, it's straight-to-video division. The company was launched at the height of the DVD boom in the mid-2000s, when consumers bought movies made specifically for home entertainment. "Given the continuing decline in the direct-to-video film market, the decision was made to close Warner Premiere," Warner Bros said in a statement. "The division will continue and complete production on its remaining film and digital series projects into the fall." Warner Premiere was behind "Lost Boys: The Tribe" and "Lost Boys: The Thirst," as well as "Get Smart: Bruce and Lloyd Out of Control," "Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning," and "The Hills Run Red." The company is looking to release "A Christmas Story 2" on DVD and Blu-ray on October 30th. In the sequel, Ralphie (Braeden Lemasters) is a teenager and has his sights set on a new toy for Christmas: a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline Convertible.

1.) The first images from Ron Howard's Formula One biopic Rush were released on the movie's official website. The film stars Daniel Bruhl (Inglourious Basterds) as legendary driver Niki Lauda returned to compete against rival James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) in the 1976 F1 World Championship, just weeks after a near-fatal crash. The film has set a September 20, 2013 release date. You can check out all four new pictures right here. 2.) Jesse Eisenberg and Dakota Fanning are trying to make some front page drive-in news, entering talks to join writer/director Kelly Reichardt's Night Moves. The indie thriller's plot, which centers on three eco-terrorists who plan to blow up a dam, leads me to believe it actually isn't based on the classic Bob Seger song. I know, that disappointed me at first too, but Reichardt's previous two films (Wendy and Lucy and Meek's Cutoff) each made a bit of a splash so...

Just when you thought the concept of direct-to-dvd sequels had been all but replaced by remakes and reboots, along comes Warner Home Video to remind us that Dtv flicks are still alive and well... and equally as frustrating. Apparently someone out there thought it was a good idea to create a sequel to the timeless holiday classic A Christmas Story without any of the original cast or creative team (admittedly, director Bob Clark and writer Jean Shepherd are no longer with us). Thirty years have passed since the original film was released but somehow Ralphie is only a teenager in this sequel, which certainly makes for some chronological confusion (I assume it is set in the 1940s?). Either way, Ralphie now has his sights set on a new toy for Christmas: a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline Convertible, which sounds slightly safer than a Red Ryder Bb Gun. Braeden Lemasters (Men of a Certain Age) will play Ralphie,...
