The true mafia experience
That's the first episode I watch from this very long Italian TV show. I guess it's a genuine portrait of the true mafia, as it exists in Italy and especially Sicily. The mafia that spreads all over the country, contaminating every social class: ordinary citizens, clerks, workers, politics, magistrates, policemen, business men, executives of all kinds. Mafia spreads out like an octopus. Like a plague. Damiano Damiani made many movies on Mafia, with also the likes of Pasquale Squieteri and also the great Francesco Rosi. All described very well this social disease typical of Italy and Sicily. Mafia was born here, a very long time ago. This first episode is highly well made, exciting and characterized in a terrific way. It's very promising for the other épisodes. A story of pain and fight against maybe the unbeatable. Guess I am wrong. A billions miles away from the usual spaghetti Italian crime flicks. Sort of DIRTY HARRY, DEATH WISH or other US products rip offs, all plenty of gratuitous violence, brutal scenes involving women at a scale you can't even imagine... Nothing of that here. The story is riveting and realistic in the same time. No excess at all. A tremendous piece of work.
