Cher’s story and music is headed to Broadway.
The Cher Story, a new musical based on the life and career of the iconic singer, will open on Broadway next fall following a Chicago tryout.
“My life as a musical on Broadway. It seems crazy, exciting and bizarre -- but that's probably how my life seems to most people,” Cher said in a statement.
The production will debut with a limited engagement at Chicago’s Oriental Theatre on June 12, 2018, with tickets going on sale Oct. 18, before heading to the Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre next fall.
The new “bio-musical” will feature a book by Tony-winner Rick Elice (Jersey Boys), choreography by Tony Award-winner Christopher Gattelli (Newsies), and orchestrations, arrangements and musical supervision by Tony Award-winner Daryl Waters (Memphis). The polarity between director David Lowery’s $65 million Disney film Pete’s Dragon and the micro-budgeted A Ghost Story has been noted repeatedly in reviews and profiles. But the man behind the camera on A Ghost Story has a unique career trajectory of his own. Cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo made his feature debut with Adam Wingard’s tone-mashing home invasion horror flick You’re Next in 2011. He followed that by co-directing a documentary (Rich Hill, an affecting character study of Missouri teens living in poverty) and a narrative feature (One and Two). Palermo is back in director of photography mode on A […]...

With John Simm having made his return to Doctor Who for the first time since 2010 in last week’s episode “World Enough and Time,” it seems like an opportune moment to remind ourselves of the long history of the Doctor’s nemesis the Master, doesn’t it?
The short video you’ll see above runs through the Master’s many regenerations at a rather quick pace. If you need some reminding, the uber-villain has gone through seven different incarnations over the decades. First, there was Roger Delgado (1971-73), followed by a horribly disfigured version (Peter Pratt, 1976; Geoffrey Beevers, 1981) and then there was Anthony Ainley (1981-89). The one-off Doctor Who: The Movie featured Eric Roberts as the Master in 1997 before the revived series cast Derek Jacobi in 2007. John Simm then took over, followed by Michelle Gomez in 2014.

Actors always talk about how villains are more fun to play than heroes. By that logic, portraying a character as pure evil and larger than life as the Master must be a huge treat and as such, it’s no surprise, then, that John Simm has apparently been waiting to come back to Doctor Who ever since he last appeared as the titular hero’s arch-enemy seven years ago.
Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine (via DoctorWho.TV), the actor explained that he enjoyed working opposite David Tennant’s Doctor so much that he was always waiting to be called back to the show.
“I was very surprised to get the call. I thought this ship had sailed. I really did. I was very happy with being David’s Master and I really thought that was it, when Russell [T Davies, showrunner, 2005-10] left, and Julie Gardner [executive producer, 2005-10], and the whole changing of the guard. You can have too much of a good thing – if the saga of Walter White taught us nothing else, it surely taught us that. So when creator Vince Gilligan teamed up with writer Peter Gould to create a prequel to Breaking Bad – starring comedian Bob Odenkirk's sleazeball ambulance-chaser Saul Goodman – it was hard not to think they were aping their own creation. Wasn't returning to this world so soon, to tell the origin story of a drastically different kind of person, hubris on a Heisenbergian scale?

District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is back with Oats Studios. He explains what we can expect, and how you can get involved...
From the earliest stages of his career, director Neill Blomkamp has used short films as a means of testing his ideas. The most famous example, arguably, is Alive In Joburg, a fake documentary about shunned alien visitors - a premise which formed the debut for Blomkamp's stunning feature debut, District 9.
See related Ultra HD 4K Blu-rays, and pricing people out of a format
The success of that film led to the movies Elysium and Chappie, yet Blomkamp hasn't stopped making short films and commercials in between; there was the curious snippet of found-footage released by Wired Magazine in 2010, which depicted the discovery of a strange, porcine creature lying dead in a puddle. There was The Hire, one instalment of a series of shorts for the German car firm BMW.

I had the chance to sit down with Taya, one of the stars of the El Rey Network show Lucha Underground. We discussed her career, the state of women's wrestling, plus what fans can expect from the Mid Season premiere of Lucha Underground on May 31st.
Lrm: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. For those unfamiliar, what is Lucha Underground and why should fans watch?
Taya: Lucha Underground is a show and original series that is on the El Rey Network. We are now in the midst of the Season 3 hiatus. We come back from break on May 31st. It's a show that combines lucha libre, combined with action and gritty actions sequences. Really like a graphic novel come to life. It's not a wrestling show. It is a tv series and it is unlike anything you have seen in your entire life, I can tell you that.

Back in 2007, writer David Gallaher and artist Steve Ellis released High Moon online, introducing comic readers to a tiny Texas town in the Old West where things with sharp teeth went "bump" in the night. Now, nearly one decade later, Papercutz's Super Genius is celebrating the latest full moon by resurrecting the werewolf Western comic series.

The film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a great predecessor to Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
By the looks of this mid-season trailer, Disney Xd’s Star Wars Rebels television show is fitting in nicely as a prequel towards the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Ezra and the Ghost crew are now fully on board with the rebellion. It appears they must recruit more allies to solidify the rebellion and thwarts the efforts of Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Empire.
Besides the main rebel crew, familiar characters will be back for the rest of the season, including Rex, Obi-wan Kenobi and even the debut of Saw Gerrera (voiced by Forest Whitaker too).

It’s time to head back to Twin Peaks, salute some major names (Gus Van Sant, James Cameron, Hal Ashby, Guillermo del Toro, Orson Welles), icons (James Dean), and (former) power players (Mike Ovitz). Plus, Harry Potter, Seinfeld, and McDonald’s! Let’s start with a loving look back at 50 years of the starship Enterprise.
Star Trek: 50 Artists 50 Years (Titan Books)
There have been a number of interesting books released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, but there’s no question that 50 Artists 50 Years is the handsomest. As the title makes clear, the premise is simple: 50 respected artists, all with wildly unique styles, were tasked with creating a work of art highlighting some element of the Trek universe. There’s plenty of original series — Glen Brogan’s jaunty representation of the bridge of the Enterprise is my personal favorite — and lots of Spock. Plus, Leonard Nimoy himself...

Mr. Robot will offer an expanded look into the brain of Elliot Alderson with a new book, Mr. Robot: Red Wheelbarrow (eps1.91_redwheelbarr0w.txt), out November 1st, The Wall Street Journal reports. Spoilers for both Season One and Two follow.
Written by show creator Sam Esmail and writer Courtney Looney, Red Wheelbarrow comprises the journal entries Elliot was seen writing during the first six episodes of Season Two. During that arc, it was clear Elliot had isolated himself after the 5/9 hack, but it hadn't yet been revealed that he was in prison.

As anticipation builds for the November 18th release of Warner Bros. Pictures’ adventure “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” the Studio has announced plans to return to J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World for the next film in the series, slated for worldwide release on November 16, 2018. The announcement was made by Greg Silverman, President, Creative Development and Worldwide Production, and Sue Kroll, President, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.
Wizarding world creator J.K. Rowling, who made her screenwriting debut on the first film, is scripting the sequel.
The second “Fantastic Beasts” movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.
Director David Yates (the final four “Harry Potter” films) will again take the helm, having recently completed work on “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.” The new film will also reunite producers David Heyman,...

The Harry Potter spin-off is heading into sequel territory as announced by WB.
J.K. Rowling will return to write the film, and director David Yates is returning as director after just finishing the first film.
The first film, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, doesn't release until this Novembers, but WB is already expecting a big turn out, which led them to announce the sequel already.
The currently untitled project will release November 16, 2018. This will be the second film J.K. Rowling has personally written.
The second “Fantastic Beasts” movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances.
It is easy to see why WB has so much faith in the film before it releases. Recently the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two released to sold out crowds and applause in London.

J.K. Rowling and Jack Thorne's play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two has been getting great reviews in previews but will have its official opening night on July 30th. Since most Potterheads can't get themselves to the U.K. to see it, the book version will have to do. And they sure are hungry for more Harry Potter. With fans gearing up for the tradition that is midnight release parties, Reuters reports, "Nine years after the publication of the seventh and last book in the best-selling boy wizard series, pre-orders for the script of a new, sold-out London play is the most pre-ordered book since 2007 in the United States, retail book sellers Barnes & Noble said on Monday." So which book did so well in 2007? Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, of course. Barnes and Noble did not give sales figures but said the book was...

It's not often I get to write about my first love, theatre, but thanks to the buzz surrounding Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Parts One and Two, I get to do just that today. Why is everyone talking about this production? Well, because it's based on a story "Harry Potter" creator J.K. Rowling had a hand in writing and is an officially-sanctioned sequel to her now-classic books about the boy wizard. Those books famously gave way to eight movies, and now this new story she's written is getting the stage treatment.
The play, coming to the Palace Theater London in July, will be the eighth story in the Potter series and it takes place 19 years after the events depicted in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. Basically, it's set in the same period as that epilogue scene at the end that depicted Harry, Ron, and Hermione as adults with...

The only things certain in life are death, taxes, and that the Harry Potter fandom will continue forever. The first preview of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts One and Two (is there any other kind of child in the Harry Potter world?) begins in a week and, in anticipation, Pottermore released the first look at Harry, Ginny, and Albus Potter. Cursed Child is set 19 years after Deathly Hallows, with Harry now a father and an employee at the Ministry of Magic. The play will not only focus on Harry’s life but also on youngest son Albus Severus Potter, who is saddled with the family’s dense legacy. But let’s get to what really matters: photos of Harry Potter 2.0. The roster for Avengers: Infinity War Part One and Two is a mysterious one, and whoever is on it will be joining what could be the greatest battle to ever take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Not too long ago, the Russo brothers revealed that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) would be heading back home to Earth for the battle against the Mad Titan, but the whereabouts of the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy during the Infinity War is still remains a mystery. During a recent interview with The Verge, Avengers: Infinity War co-writer Christopher Markus teased the possibility of the appearance of a furry little Guardian while speaking about keeping the characters in Infinity War grounded. "Whether they’re a 12-foot purple guy, or a raccoon, or an android, they’re all people, and we’re going to write them as people," said the Captain America: Civil War writer.

★★★★☆ All good things must come to an end. The Enchanted One is the last piece in the puzzle of Miguel Gomes' Arabian Nights, a rambling odyssey through austerity-hit Portugal via Baghdad in the age of antiquity. Just as enigmatic and eclectic in terms of style, construct and tone as its preceding volumes, the finale plunges deepest into the mystical and mythical origins of the story from which its structure is taken. Volumes One and Two may have had viewers scratching their heads, and this portion of the film is by no means conventional, but there's a musicality and dreamlike quality to The Enchanted One which resonates long after a tremendous tracking shot of Chico Chapas draws this sprawling epic to a close.

Chanchassen, Minn. – One of rock’s most legendary and mysterious figures, whose full and real name was Prince Rogers Nelson, died on April 21st, 2016, after paramedics found him unresponsive at his Paisley Park home in Chanchassen, Minnesota. No cause of death has been given. The singer was 57 years old.
Prince was born in 1958, in Minneapolis, and received his royal moniker from his father, Prince Rogers, Sr. (he was a jazz musician, it was a stage name). He showed music aptitude even as a child, and in 1975 he formed the band 94 East with his cousin. Demo tapes resulted in representation at age 17, and led to his debut “For You” on Warner Bros. records in 1978. One year later, the self-titled “Prince” album was the follow up, and yielded his first national exposure with the songs “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Why You Want to Treat Me So Bad.”

Now, directors Joe and Anthony Russo share their recommendation for why it's even better to see this Marvel event on the Biggest screen: IMAX.
Here's what they say about why IMAX is better:
The IMAX format already has solid fans in other famous directors such as Christopher Nolan and Quentin Tarantino. It was also recently announced that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War Parts One and Two will be filmed in IMAX. As moviemaking technology continues to improve, the moviegoing experience just gets better and better. If IMAX is the future, we can't wait! It would be seven years before his first solo album would appear, but after that he would be fairly prolific. Though he never achieved mainstream success -- which sadly makes sense given that this progressive rock legend didn't issue anything in 1971-76, the peak prog years -- aficionados of the style have long admired his work. Remember when the Internet clutched its pearls in horror at the casting of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman? The horror! Now, a week after the box office (if not critical) success of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," many fans -- possibly even some of the early Batfleck doubters -- are looking forward to seeing his Caped Crusader again, and asking about his own solo Batman film.
The Hollywood Reporter talked to Patrick Whitesell of Wme-Img, which represents Ben Affleck, to get details on the star's DC contract, and scoop on a potential standalone film.
"He's contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape," Whitesell said, adding, "there's a script that he's written that is a really cool [Batman] idea, so that's out there as an option."

Long before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hit our screens, rumours abounded of Ben Affleck spinning off to a series of Batman solo movies, which he would direct and develop alongside DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns. While nothing was set in stone, we all took it as a given, especially now that Batfleck seems to be the one thing fans and critics seem to agree with now that the movie has finally debuted. Well, we might be one step closer, with, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, William Morris Endeavour (the talent agency that represents the actor) co-ceo Patrick Whitesell revealing that the script has been written, as well as dropping details of Afflecks DC Comics movie contract: “He’s contracted to do at least Justice League One and Two, so at least three times wearing the cape. Almost three years ago now came word that Ben Affleck would play the new Batman in what was then an untitled "Man of Steel" sequel. We've now seen the result of that in last week's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and it turned out this take on Batman turned out be one of the better received elements of a highly contentious film.
When Affleck signed on though, there was the obvious question of for how many films. Marvel famously signs up its key stars for at least six films, but what about DC? Speaking with THR, Affleck's agent Patrick Whitesell revealed that the contract was only for three films at first - 'Dawn' and the two "Justice League" movies (his "Suicide Squad" appearance is a separate thing).
