Before Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" and Bryan Singer's "X-Men," there was Stephen Norrington's "Blade." The 1998 action-horror flick wasn't the first film based on a Marvel Comics title, but it was the one that proved the House of Ideas might just have a future in the movie business after years of financial failures. Wesley Snipes would go on to reprise his role as the titular daywalker in the sequels "Blade II" and "Blade: Trinity," the latter of which paired him against Ryan Reynolds as a wise-cracking, kill-happy Marvel superhero.
No, not that one.
Indeed, it would be another 20 years before Snipe's Blade shared the screen with Reynolds as Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover "Deadpool & Wolverine," with the two characters coming face-to-face upon being banished to The Void by the Time Variance Authority. If you're doing the math in your head, you may already realize that...

During San Diego Comic-Con (Sdcc), Jamie Lee Curtis commented on Marvel’s recent films while promoting her upcoming “Borderlands” film. An MTV interviewer asked her which phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe we’re currently in, and she answered with “Bad.”
Now, it seems that she has been shamed enough to issue an apology for her joke, which I thought was funny and accurate.
She put out a statement saying,
“My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content.”
While the “Don’t poop where you eat” philosophy is a good one, she wasn’t wrong if we go by the data.
Phases 4 and 5 of the MCU have not performed well.

Love it or hate it, Rotten Tomatoes is now more important than ever when it comes to whether moviegoers decide to check out the latest releases in theaters, and it's not uncommon for studios to tout scores as proudly as star ratings.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has delivered hit after hit since Iron Man was released in 2008, though the Multiverse Saga has proven it's not immune from the wrath of critics.
After delivering its first Rotten movie in 2021, Marvel Studios had a so-so 2022 before a 2023 we're betting Kevin Feige and company would rather forget (particularly at the box office). Thanks to last year's strikes, 2024 will see the release of only one movie: the R-Rated Deadpool & Wolverine.
It's broken box office records and, with it now added to this list, looking back at how these movies fared on the review aggregator makes for interesting reading, particularly when they're stacked up against each other.

The internet has always been obsessed with Taylor Swift and Harry Styles’ relationship. So, when Taylor Swift stood up to applaud her ex for winning the Grammy for Best Album in 2023, beating out heavyweights like Beyoncé, Adele, and Kendrick Lamar in the category. That too over some Grammy audience members’ grumbling over Styles’ win, it made major headlines.

As Deadpool might say, let's f***ing go. After six years away from the silver screen, the Merc with a Mouth returned in a big, bad way with Marvel's "Deadpool & Wolverine." As the title makes very clear, Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson brought some company with him this time in the form of Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. That combination proved to be absolutely irresistible for moviegoers, as the superhero team-up absolutely obliterated the competition at the box office, shattering records along the way.
Coming in above the already-ridiculous $200 million estimates over the weekend, director Shawn Levy's "Deadpool & Wolverine" pulled in an astonishing $211 million domestically in its debut, representing the biggest opening weekend for an R-rated movie ever. The original "Deadpool" ($132.4 million) was the previous record holder, so we're firmly in record-shattering territory here, well beyond record-breaking. If you happened to open up Twitter (only Thanos calls it "X") on the evening of Saturday, July 27, 2024, you may have noticed the social media platform blowing up with posts about Marvel Studios' San Diego Comic-Con panel. Taking to the stage in Hall H, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be making his much-ballyhooed return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as rumored, though not as the late Tony Stark. Instead, the actor will be celebrating his recent Oscar win for "Oppenheimer" by playing an alternate universe version of the fabled "Fantastic Four" villain Victor von "Doctor" Doom.

Rumors first surfaced earlier this month that Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani would be portraying Booster Gold in the Dcu's upcoming DC Studios/Max Booster Gold series and a very telling sign that this rumor was indeed true was the fact that DC Studios co-chair James Gunn did not take to X/Twitter or Threads to debunk it.
Now, The Cosmic Circus is adding that they've spoken to Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña (who is one of the few actors making the jump from the Dceu to the Dcu), and he's confirmed that Kumail Nanjiani will indeed portray Booster Gold.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” soared higher than expected in its first weekend of release. The comic book tentpole, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, collected $211 million in its domestic box office debut, ranking as the sixth-biggest opening of all time.

Deadpool & Wolverine Box Office (Worldwide) ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
Deadpool and Wolverine stormed the theaters on July 26 and smashed box office records, surpassing the projected International estimates. The Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds starrer was catapulted to instant box office success, earning nearly 30 per cent more than the expected opening weekend gross of $170M. The extortionate box office collection has propelled Deadpool and Wolverine to the fifth biggest superhero movie debut weekend.
After several misfires with more recent entries like “Eternals,” “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quintumnia,” and “The Marvels,” Disney’s superhero sequel, which paired two of Marvel’s most popular characters, recorded the eighth-best debut of all time in the Domestic Box office.
The collective star power of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds helped catapult Deadpool & Wolverine to towering box office heights, raking in $205 million in its opening weekend at the Domestic Box office.

After just three days of release, Disney’s Marvel epic “Deadpool & Wolverine” is already one of the highest-grossing releases of the year.
The superhero sequel, which unites Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as their comic book personas, has generated $233 million at the international box office and $438 million globally. “Deadpool & Wolverine” stands behind only “Inside Out 2” ($1.5 billion), “Dune: Part Two” ($711 million), “Despicable Me 4” ($596 million), “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” ($567.6 million) and “Kung Fu Panda 4” ($545 million) in terms of worldwide ticket sales in 2024.
The film will easily rise on global charts in the coming weeks, but box office analysts are assessing if the third “Deadpool” has the momentum to clear the $1 billion mark. Even this early in its box office run, it seems safe to predict it’ll hit that benchmark. However, only one R-rated movie in history — 2019’s “Joker” with $1.07 billion globally — has joined the coveted billion-dollar club.

“Deadpool & Wolverine,” a comic book adventure that pairs two of Marvel’s most popular characters, is turbocharging the box office.
Disney’s superhero sequel has collected $205 million in its opening weekend, ranking as the eighth-best debut of all time ahead of 2018’s “Black Panther” ($202 million) and behind 2015’s “Jurassic World” ($208 million) and 2012’s “The Avengers” ($207 million). Only nine films in Hollywood history have crossed the $200 million milestone in their opening weekends. Ticket sales also easily surpassed 2016’s “Deadpool” ($132 million) to set the record for the biggest R-rated opening weekend ever. The 2018 sequel, “Deadpool 2,” now stands as the third-biggest R-rated debut with $125 million. Among the newest installment’s many benchmarks, “Deadpool & Wolverine” landed by far the biggest start of the year, overtaking Disney’s Pixar sequel “Inside Out 2” ($155 million debut).

“You were an X-Man. You were the X-Man.” This line from Deadpool & Wolverine will likely become a classic among geek circles since it describes the importance of Hugh Jackman’s Logan, both to the Fox era of X-Men and to the brand as a whole. With that said, Deadpool & Wolverine was about the legacy of one specific Wolverine—or two, at any rate. And neither seems likely to be the Wolverine of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Last year’s San Diego Comic-Con was a disappointment for the MCU due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, which prevented actors and writers from promoting their movies.
However, this year’s Sdcc made up for it, delivering numerous updates on the flagship franchise and other upcoming projects. Let’s take a look at everything that was revealed:
‘Avengers 5’ Receives New Title and Doctor Doom Announcement
The biggest update of the night was reserved for the ‘Avengers’ franchise. The Russo Brothers are returning to the MCU, and ‘Avengers 5’ has a new title: “Avengers: Doomsday,” set for release in May 2026.
Additionally, a newly designed “Avengers: Secret Wars” logo was unveiled, with a new release date of May 2027. It was also announced that Robert Downey Jr. will play Victor Von Doom. The Russo Brothers praised Downey Jr., stating they needed “the greatest actor in the world” for the role. Downey Jr.

Last year’s San Diego Comic-Con was a sad affair in terms of MCU primarily due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that prohibited the actors and writers from promoting their movies.
This is why this year’s Sdcc definitely delivered, fans have gotten plenty of updates related to the flagship franchise, and other projects that are a bit closer to release. So, let’s see everything that was revealed:

Riding the record-breaking, opening weekend high of "Deadpool & Wolverine," Marvel Studios took the San Diego Comic Con's Hall H stage on Saturday night for its first full-stride victory lap in a shockingly long time. This is, after all, a studio that has mostly dominated the box office since "The Avengers" brought the Marvel Cinematic Universe together for an epochal superhero throwdown. Comic book fans had been dreaming of this movie for decades. Non-fans had been wired for it since Jon Favreau's "Iron Man," if not earlier.
12 years ago, this anticipation caught many in the film industry by surprise. If they'd known Marvel superheroes could be the cowboys of the 21st century, they probably would've taken this genre much more seriously after the surprise success of Tim Burton's "Batman" in 1989. And that's the thing with the superhero genre in this business. For a long time, these properties were...

Marvel Studios opened its San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday night with some footage of "Captain America: Brave New World." The panel also wound up confirming some rumored details about the movie that weren't completely apparent from the film's first trailer.
Part of the presentation included a clip where President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross (Harrison Ford) discusses the remains of the late Celestial Tiamut, whose "emergence" was thwarted (and humanity saved) back in 2021's "Eternals." A rumor circulating recently has claimed that the remains of Tiamut will be the source of adamantium (the metal alloy that Wolverine's skeleton and claws are coated in). This has seemingly been confirmed; in the footage shown tonight, Ford's Ross declares that "adamantium belongs to everyone."
Not only that, but the identity of Giancarlo Esposito's mystery villain has finally been confirmed: He's playing Sidewinder, King of the Serpent Society. These villainous snakes were...

Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe has become the first film franchise in history to cross $30 billion at the global box office. The achievement was announced during the studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, led by studio chief Kevin Feige.
“Deadpool & Wolverine,” the latest entry in the sprawling series, pushed the haul across the coveted milestone after scoring $96 million on opening day in North America — the biggest ever for an R-rated release and the sixth-highest of all time. It’s poised to generate $195 million to $205 million domestically and roughly $380 million to $400 million globally through Sunday.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of the most prolific film franchises of all time with 34 installments over 15 years. The comic book giant has delivered an unprecedented string of blockbusters since its inception with 2008’s “Iron Man,” including “Avengers: Endgame” ($2.799 billion) and “Infinity War” ($2.05 billion), standing as two of the highest-grossing movies ever.

Spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine" follow.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" is a road trip buddy comedy through the multiverse, where Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) meets many variants of himself. One especially weird member of the Deadpool Corps is Headpool, an undead head from the "Marvel Zombies" universe (he gets around by wearing an automated propeller head). Headpool's voice actor is none other than Nathan Fillion, beloved in geek circles for playing Captain Mal Reynolds on "Firefly" and known outside of them for "Castle."
During the 2000s, Fillion was one of nerds' favorite fancasts to star in a superhero movie -- particularly "Green Lantern," a role that instead went to a pre-"Deadpool" Reynolds. (Fillion settled for voicing Hal Jordan in some animated DC movies.)
While he's not the superhero star his fans wanted him to be, Fillion has popped up in the MCU — three times before playing Headpool, in fact. He...

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is here and with it are the expectations that go along with it – namely that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) will annoy the hell out of the more stoic Wolverine (Hugh Jackman); that there will be plenty of cameos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and beyond); and that the post-credit scenes will leave you bopping out of the theater with a smile on your face.
Let’s tackle that last one today, discussing what happens after Deadpool and Wolverine go on their cross-multiverse journey, facing off against a bureaucratic wonk from the Time Variance Authority (Matthew Macfadyen) and Charles Xavier’s evil twin Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin), who threaten to destroy not only Deadpool’s timeline but all timelines.
Of course, it’s time we issue a severe spoiler warning, as we dig into whether or not there are post-credits scenes and what those scenes entail. Ready to break the fourth wall?...

Deadpool & Wolverine is much more than the extension of a franchise or the beginning of a new era. The film exists within itself, in a pocket dimension of its own making, where words are left unspoken and feelings are dealt with the clashes of claws and katanas.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to drop one of its most anticipated movies in years, the moment the Fox-era X-Men franchise finally crosses into the MCU following the 2019 buyout. Deadpool & Wolverine will be both the end of that era and the beginning of another.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the MCU has struggled at the box office. While movies like Spider-Man: No Way Home and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 did well, others like Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels did poorly, even losing money for the studio.
Another film from this period that did poorly was The Eternals, Marvel’s attempt at creating a new hero team to stand alongside the Avengers and Guardians. However, the film only made $402.1 million on a $236.2 million budget. The fact that the film wasn’t released in China may have hurt its chances. Not only did the...

While Ryan Reynolds has gone on the record as far back as 2021 to state that his dream vision for a third Deadpool movie always involved a road trip story with Wade and Logan, the path to making Deadpool & Wolverine a reality was anything but a smooth ride. In fact, Reynolds spent a good deal of time pitching Marvel Studios on a number of alternate, divergent ideas for Deadpool 3… including a low-budget concept sans any big set pieces. And when we spoke to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige last week, the MCU impresario confirmed that a “Sundance” version was briefly developed. He even shed some light on Reynolds’ apparently Yuletide vision.
“Ryan is an idea machine who every day could pitch a new Deadpool movie, and did for a while as we were working on this,” Feige told us. “I don’t know exactly which ones he’s revealed and talked about,...

Apparently, her cute flirting not only stole netizens’ hearts but even made Reynolds say yes to her proposal, almost forgetting about Blake Lively.

“Deadpool & Wolverine,” the latest installment in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe (and the first to be headlined by comic book characters that were previously licensed to 20th Century Fox), looks to close out the July box office with a bang.
The superhero sequel, which teams Ryan Reynolds’ snarky Merc With a Mouth with Hugh Jackman’s gruff Logan, is projected to collect a mighty $160 million to $170 million from 4,200 North American theaters over the weekend. However, some box office experts suggest that several factors, such as excitement for the return of Jackman’s brooding mutant, his long-awaited odd coupling with Reynolds and talk of surprise cameos, could propel the film’s three-day tally to $190 to $200 million.
Wherever the final number ends up, “Deadpool & Wolverine” will likely surpass 2016’s “Deadpool” ($132 million) as the biggest R-rated opening weekend in history. It’ll also easily land as the best debut of 2024, overtaking another Disney movie,...

Marvel Studios is just a few days away from releasing its first R-rated superhero movie within the MCU, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” but for even longer, we expected the first R-rated Marvel movie to hit theaters would be its reboot of “Blade” starring Mahershala Ali.
Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.
“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.
But Feige in an interview over the weekend ahead of “Deadpool & Wolverine” gave a short update about the status of “Blade.”

Currently a solo pop star cum actor, Harry Styles has come a long, long way since his days as one of the members of the now-disbanded English-Irish pop boy band One Direction. Not only has he made his official acting debut with 2017’s Dunkirk, but besides being one of the most influential men in music and fashion, he has also scored a position in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Kevin Feige Confirms There Are 'No Immediate Plans' for Eternals Sequel - Main Image
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently provided a discouraging update on the potential sequel of Eternals.
While the film was not received well by the critics and had a modest box office performance, fans are still hoping that Marvel will proceed with a sequel and follow the characters in their next journey.
So far, in the subsequent MCU releases, we've only seen easter eggs on the characters as Marvel has not shared any plans for their future even as we're now approaching three years since the film arrived in theaters.

In a recent interview, Feige was asked whether they are developing a sequel to Eternals. Unfortunately, he confirmed that they have no plans anytime soon.

Eternals was a big departure from anything Marvel had done, and this is a franchise which had already introduced a talking raccoon and actual magic. Still, the story of a group of superpowered individuals who had been on earth for 5000 years proved to be divisive, with the film becoming the worst-reviewed project of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It also struggled at the box office, although it should be noted that the film was released during the height of the pandemic. It’s been nearly three years since the release of the film, but there’s still no movement on Eternals 2, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has dropped a disappointing update.

Eternals was certainly one of Marvel Studios' more divisive film offerings, debuting with a 47% Rotten Tomatoes score. Its box office performance can't be used as a metric for audience appeal, as it was a victim of the Covid-19 pandemic which saw many blockbusters given a slim theatrical window before being dumped on streaming.
Still, the film was undisputedly a rare theatrical misfire for Marvel and as such, there's been very little follow-up on the events of the 2021 release...until now.

Of course, what Feige is alluding to, is the presence of the Celestial Tiamut, which is currently sticking out of the ocean in the MCU.

Right now, it's unclear what shape the next "Avengers" film is going to take. Once subtitled "The Kang Dynasty," Jonathan Majors was fired from his role as Kang The Conqueror in December 2023 after he was found guilty of harassment and assault.
Director Destin Daniel Cretton also exited "Avengers 5" in November 2023 (apparently he's more interested in super ninjas than superheroes). As of now, no replacement director for Cretton has been confirmed. The latest news suggests that brothers/directing duo Joe and Anthony Russo (who directed "Avengers" duology "Infinity War" and "Endgame") are in talks to return.
Part of Marvel Studios' problems here are foundational. Unlike the previous Marvel "phases," which were relatively tight with a mostly consistent sense of escalation, "Phase 4" (films and Disney+ shows from 2021) was scattered. The constant parade of new characters felt more like throwing darts at board to see which stuck.

The fact that there was going to be a Blade reboot as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starring Mashershala Ali in the title role, came as a huge surprise when the announcement was made at the San Diego Comic-Con back in July of 2019… but now we’ve reached the five year anniversary of that announcement, and we still haven’t seen a new Blade movie. The closest we’ve gotten is Ali making a vocal cameo as the character at the end of Eternals back in 2021. Today, we have ranked the MCU movies based on their estimated production budget. From Eternals to The Marvels, we have listed the films released in the post-covid era. Find out where Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman starrer is at.
The upcoming MCU movie is very important for the studio because of past box office duds like The Marvels and also because after this film, X-Men characters, aka mutants, will be prominent in Marvel projects.

After Wesley Snipes’ Blade trilogy, Marvel Studios regained the rights to the character and started working on a script in 2013. In 2019, Kevin Feige announced the Blade film with Mahershala Ali in the lead role at San Diego Comic-Con. The film ran into several behind-the-scenes issues, with multiple changes in writers and directors. In a recent interview, Feige gave the latest update on the film.

Actress and filmmaker Angelina Jolie reportedly requested her ex-husband Brad Pitt to ‘end the fighting’ with regards to their legal battle over the Chateau Miraval winery. The actress reportedly requested a truce in the matter and asked Pitt to drop the lawsuit he had filed.
However, insiders reported that Pitt had no intention of putting a stop to the matter as it was a standard business dispute. Sources close to the actor mentioned that the Girl, Interrupted actress had brought personal issues related to their divorce into a business dispute.

Earlier this week, the news broke that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are in talks to helm Avengers 5 (still untitled after dropping The Kang Dynasty) and Avengers: Secret Wars.
The Russo Brothers are no strangers to the MCU, having previously directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Not only are these movies some of the most popular Marvel Studios releases yet - with Infinity War and Endgame, in particular, arguably representing the pinnacle of quality for the franchise - but they show how adept the filmmakers are at juggling multiple characters and subplots.
This surely makes them an ideal fit for these next two Avengers films... right?
The news of the Russos' MCU return was met with a mostly positive reaction, but there are those that feel this represents a step backwards, with Disney/Marvel simply defaulting to what they...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is well into its Phase 5, and despite a few bumps, it remains one of the biggest superhero franchises ever. That’s the same reason why fan speculations about several movies are still ripe to this day, even from movies several years old like Avengers: Infinity War and Eternals.

A new theory supposedly connects these two movies, where a disaster in one scenario served as a benefit to the other. And Doctor Strange might have viewed it all.

Though the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy put up a good fight against the Mad Titan, particularly Doctor Strange, they ultimately succumb to his might. Strange scans through a total of 14,000,605 possibilities, and finds only one of them succeeding.

Much has been said about the huge number of characters we'll see in the next Avengers movies, but will there be room for everyone? Marvel Studios had a huge roster of characters even before Phase 4, only for that jam-packed era of storytelling to introduce tonnes of new heroes and villains.
The Eternals, Namor, Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, Ironheart, She-Hulk, Adam Warlock...the list goes on and on. Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars are also Multiversal movies, meaning Marvel Studios will need to find room for Variants as well!
In an interview with io9, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige was asked about those Phase 4 debuts and whether we can expect to see the characters in the upcoming Avengers movies or if there's a chance they won't return.
"I rarely speak in absolutes like that, right?" Feige started. "The notion of never ever seeing somebody again, we’ve got Tim Blake Nelson...

“Joe and Anthony Russo will return.”
The Hollywood Reporter reports that Marvel is now in talks to bring Joe and Anthony Russo back as directors of Avengers 5 and 6. The Russos helmed some of the franchise’s biggest hits, including Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the discussions are still in early phases, but they seem to be on their way.
Given the success of those films, and the difficulty that MCU head Kevin Fiege has had finding someone to helm the next Avengers movies, having gone through Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘s Destin Daniel Cretton and Shawn Levy of Deadpool & Wolverine, the Russos’ return seems like a no brainer. After all, they’re a very safe pair of hands when it comes to these sorts of massive, franchise-defining blockbusters. However, there is also risk here. Feige might do well to...

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the movie industry saw the boom of the streaming age, with services proving to be the best way to catch flicks while cinemas were closed. One that emerged just before the pandemic was Disney+, which, like most, saw its subscription numbers grow during that time. With many still unsure if they wanted to return to the cinema in 2021, Disney made the decision to simultaneously release MCU entry Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+ through their Premier Access banner. This, as you remember, prompted lead Scarlett Johansson to file a lawsuit against Disney over breach of contract, the actress taking a stand in a way that no other star had before.
Disney would soon settle with Scarlett Johansson. And while she remains unsure if she would return as Black Widow, the actress maintains that she holds no permanent ill will against the House of Mouse. Speaking with The New York Times,...
