Tom Cruise is undoubtedly one of Hollywood’s most successful and enduring actors whose career spans over four decades! A feat that only a few could accomplish in a cut-throat industry. His early roles in the 1980s made him the face of blockbuster franchises and he’s delivered several memorable performances.

Despite his impressive body of work, the actor never won an Academy Award. This glaring omission was enough for him to switch gears and revamp his filmography. Cruise’s journey reflects his decision to prioritize his longevity over traditional accolades, enabling him to secure his legacy in cinema.

We finally have the first teaser trailer for Netflix's Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft (via GameFragger.com) and, perhaps the most intriguing thing about this series is the fact it picks up after the events of the latest video game.
Typically, a show like this would be a straightforward adaptation of a game or an original story that draws inspiration from it. How accessible this "sequel" approach will make The Legend of Lara Croft remains to be seen, though the sneak peek promises a fun, action-packed adventure.
It was back in May that we learned Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Tomb Raider TV series is officially moving forward at Prime Video. However, that's set to be its own thing and has no ties to the games or previous movies starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
As for this Lara Croft, she'll be voiced by Captain America: The First Avenger...

Led by Disney’s “Inside Out 2” and “Deadpool & Wolverine,” with a big assist from Universal’s “Despicable Me 4,” this has been a terrific box-office summer. It gives real hope for the future when it was in short supply.
However, there’s a fly in the White Claw. The foreign takes are way, way down, to the point that it may force studios to reassess the budget parameters that can actually turn a profit.
We looked at the top 10 summer grosses in the U.S./Canada for 2019, 2023, and 2024 to date (skipping the Covid-impacted 2020-2022). The results show a sharp drop in share of foreign gross even as domestic recovers.

The first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps screened during San Diego Comic-Con last month, and while the footage did leak shortly after, it was a pretty terrible recording.
The same teaser was shown at D23 last night, and a much better-quality version has now found its way online.
The footage introduces us to this latest take on Marvel's First Family, as Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny prepare to embark on a mission to outer space that will change their lives forever.
We don't get to see any of the heroes in superhero mode (aside from a glimpse of The Thing in silhouette), but we do get a first look at Galactus right at the end - along with another character who wasn't visible in the Sdcc version: H.E.R.B.I.E the robot!

As a special treat for fans in attendance at D23, long-time Marvel Studios composer Michael Giacchino has unveiled his main theme for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Fans thought that the music that accompanied the drone show at Sa Diego Comic-Con last month might have given us a little taste of the score, but this sounds quite different.
In addition to providing the score for several MCU films, Giacchino directed the Werewolf By Night Special Presentation, and there are rumors that he's in line to helm the planned Midnight Sons movie.
The Sdcc panel revealed that the reboot has been given a new title - First Steps - and the first teaser trailer was also screened for those in attendance. A leaked version did the rounds online shorty after, but has yet to (and probably won't) be officially released.

There’s something magnetic about the big screen that turns mere mortals into legends, and one of the hottest actors of the ‘80s, Tom Cruise, epitomizes this journey like no other. Audiences first discovered him in smaller roles in films like Endless Love.

But it was his breakout performance in the 1983 film Risky Business that truly lit the fuse on his skyrocketing career. From then on, Cruise blazed a trail through Hollywood, starring in timeless classics like Rain Man, Top Gun, and Jerry Maguire. Though he dabbled in dramatic roles, he soon morphed into an indomitable action star, headlining the action-packed Mission: Impossible franchise.
Yet, who would have guessed that behind the high-octane stunts and blockbuster flicks, lies a romantic side many fans know little about? Take, for instance, his relationship with his Vanilla Sky co-star Penélope Cruz.

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie have a good thing going, and the pair are reportedly set to team up once again for a World War II movie called Broadsword. I don’t think I need to hear more; one ticket, please!
Broadsword is said to tell the story of “an S.O.E. operation and a marine captain who crashes in France and becomes the sole survivor. Against all odds, he must complete his mission amidst the chaos of war.” World of Reel adds that Henry Cavill is set to star alongside Cruise, with Marion Cotillard eyed to play the female lead. It is actually very exquisite to witness a big-screen hero like Tom Cruise, who perennially dangles off airplanes & skyscrapers, become an awestruck spectator of Olympians and the magic of the Olympic Games. Recently, Cruise was spotted cheering for the artistic gymnast Simone Biles at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Moviegoers embraced the storm this weekend, propelling “Twisters” to a blockbuster $81.25 million opening weekend. That’s far above expectations of $50 million to $55 million and enough to score the third-biggest debut of the year behind “Inside Out 2” ($154 million) and “Dune: Part Two” ($82 million).
Of course, “Twisters,” a standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster epic “Twister,” benefitted from nostalgia. The original adventure, starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes and Philip Seymour Hoffman, was hugely successful with $496 million globally and remains a touchstone for audiences.
However, analysts point out that brand familiarity isn’t enough these days to fill seats in multiplexes. This May’s “Furosia: A Mad Max Saga,” a prequel to the acclaimed 2015 action film “Mad Max: Fury Road,” struggled to sell tickets despite great reviews, while last year’s big-budget sequels like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” fell cavernously...

Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie are joined by Stephen Oyoung for Mission: Impossible 8, which continues to film.
The production of Mission: Impossible 8 feels like it’s been going on for a very long time now. In part, in fairness, because it started shooting back to back with Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which landed in cinemas all the way back in the summer of 2023.
Christopher McQuarrie has written and directed the film, which of course is being led by Tom Cruise. Production has been held up by, amongst other things, a global pandemic, a writers’ strike, an actor’s strike, and a malfunctioning submarine. As such the film continues to shoot, and over two years since film began, the cast is still expanding.

Back in April, we got confirmation that The Fantastic Four will introduce a female take on Marvel Comics' classic space-faring hero, the Silver Surfer - but not the version of the character fans are most familiar with.
Emmy Award-winner Julia Garner will play the movie's Surfer, but not a gender-switched take on Norrin Radd. Garner will actually take on the role of Shalla-Bal.
In the original Marvel Comics continuity, Shalla-Bal was the Empress of the planet Zenn-La, and was the first love of Norrin Radd. When Galactus came to devour their planet, Radd volunteered to become his herald in exchange for sparing Zenn-La. Later, when Franklin Richards took over as the new Galactus, he imbued Shalla with the same cosmic powers and allowed her to serve as a twin herald alongside Radd.

Backed by animated tentpoles like Despicable Me 4 and Inside Out 2, AMC Theatres reported a festive July 4 holiday.
The return of Gru and his Minions ruled the Fourth of July box office for the Universal and Illumination release with an estimated five-day domestic opening of $122.6 million from 4,428 theaters. The result had AMC Theatres pointing to 4.2 million patrons drawn during the July 3 to 7 period. That marked AMC’s busiest domestic Wednesday through Sunday period in 2024, and AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron talked up the latest box office rebound for Hollywood titles at the local multiplex.
“Needless to say, we are quite pleased to see the strong showing from our U.S. moviegoers during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. … It’s also important to note that AMC’s weekend was driven by the wide-ranging appeal of several movies that offer distinct and diverse options,” Aron said in a statement on Monday.

While promoting A Quiet Place: Day One, Quinn was asked for an update on the project, and to share anything he could talk about. The actor expressed his excitement to get started, before praising the script and his co-stars.
"I'm really looking forward to getting into it. The script is amazing. The director's fantastic. The intention behind it is... we're going for it."
In a separate interview, Quinn revealed that he does get asked for spoilers on occasion, but the people closest to him know better. He also said that he's asked whether the cat will survive in Day One just as often!

Tom Cruise signed a deal with Warner Bros. to co-produce and star in their films a few months ago, renewing their relationship after 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow. It was also rumored that Cruise and director Doug Liman were working on a space film project together. Now, Liman has shared that WB has been approaching him constantly for a sequel to his film. It appears that fans too want a second film from Cruise and Liman.

If such a film ever happens, it would be the perfect way to balance his current filmography. Cruise’s iconic IP, the Mission: Impossible films, are dropping in popularity with the last film making a financial loss for Paramount.

The latter served as a potential end for Mantis' story, though the door was also left open for the hero to eventually show up elsewhere in the MCU.
Talking at San Antonio's Superhero Comic Con this weekend, Klementieff weighed in on whether we'll see her play the fan-favourite Guardian again. "I'm always open to it, I love the character," she revealed (via @AgentsFandom). "I'm sure the fans would love to see it, but I don't know. It depends on the project."
There may be a good reason for Klementieff's hesitance; elsewhere during this panel appearance, the Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning...
