The Stöned Age (1994)
I laughed my butt off.
Funny movie about a bunch of dudes that I swore I went to high school with...hehe.(drinkin' beer, skoagin' chix...etc etc) Any one who doesn't think this movie is funny, obviously doesn't have a sense of humor. a 10!
RIP Mike Sackman.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
One of the best flicks of the decade.
An outstanding movie about perseverance, brains and irony. It's certainly the greatest prison movie ever made. But there's a lot more involved than your average prison flick has to offer. Try character and character development for starters.
The best thing King has written, I love "Salems Lot" but how can you top this one.
Pulp Fiction (1994)
The greatest Tarantino flick.... timeless.
I see that 700 and some people have given this movie a rating of 1! What a bunch of melarchy. There is so much packed into Pulp Fiction that most movies asked to deliver the same would buckle under the weight. The acting is great (It's nice to see Travolta in a real movie). The editing and story boarding are classic, actually they helped redefine the term classic in the genre. excellent movie a must see. [perfect 10!]
RIP Mike Sackman.
Ed Wood (1994)
As inspirational as it is funny.
Being interesting in film making myself. I had no choice but to give this movie two thumbs up. This is the best movie that Johnny Depp will ever be in and he did a good job. I recommend this film to sci-fi/horror buffs and lovers of all kinds of comedy. One thing that really kicks about this movie is how funny it is while being based on fact. I think a few of you out there might even find yourself choking a tear or two back as you watch the premier of "Plan 9" with Bela Legosi's last footage.
Awakenings (1990)
an awakening in itself!
Williams and De Niro are excellent. This is one of those "make ya really think" kind of movies. In my opinion, DeNiro's best role.
Friday the 13th: The Series (1987)
Excellent horror television program, one of the best!
Too bad this show is no longer on the air! I liked it. It was original in its premise and was completely different from any other television series of the 80's. The first time I watched this program was Oct. 31 1987. I was 11 years old and sold on the show:-)
The Annihilators (1985)
The funniest action flick of the '80s!
This is one of those movies that has the big apocalyptic background with 3 or 4 dudes sitting in the fore front with there machine guns at bay posing with arms the size of tree trunks. But of course this is only the cover art for the box and it just happens to be a painting. What you really get when you open up the box and stick it in the VCR is a cheesey unintended comedy! A friend and myself have even set up a web site for this movie due to its humurous content we felt we had to. One of my favorite lines from this movie: "These punks are finally doing something that you police should have been doing a long time ago... killing each other off!". WOOHOO! wasn't that a funny. You gotta hand it to Bob Summers (the composer) for making one of the most sterile/period scores that ever graced an optical strip or video for that matter. A timeless movie for the ill in the head. BUY IT & LAUGH!
Xiao quan guai zhao (1979)
You gotta love Jackie Chan... A+ flick
Not only are the martial arts techniques executed with skill. The humor is also top notch. Iron Head, The Great Bear and Stoney Egg are classic! If you like martial arts flicks at all or are a fan of the 3 Stooges. This is a must see for you. I'm already on my 3rd copy:-)
Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park (1978)
pure 70's Americana!
With tunes like "I Stole Your Love" and "Shout It Out Loud". This movie leaves no stone unturned for Kiss fans. It's so period, so dated, yet completely fun (especially if you're a nostalgia freak). Yet another one of those films where technically the acting stinks, the script is lame and the set is an amusement park but you just have to watch it once or twice or again and again. Choice is yours! (but I'd check it out:) As a Kiss fan I have no choice but to stick it a 10.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
The epitome of Zombie flicks!
This is the first horror movie I ever really fell in love with. From the first frame and note we're brought into Romero's world of terror. A must have movie for any serious horror enthusiast. From 1 to 10, I rate this at 11. You'll be addicted to "squibs" and look at going shopping in whole different light:-)
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
They make HEADCHEESE!
INTENSEINTENSEINTENSE Tobe Hooper's best film ever! Everyone really pulled together in this low budget flick to make a timeless epic of 'true' terror. I love Ed Neal's performance from beginning to end he's tops! A+ Nope, nope siree they don' makem' like they use ta.
A nifty little fact, Dan Fielding from "Night Court" is the narrator at the beginning of the movie:)
Gojira tai Megaro (1973)
gee, where did the Power Rangers find their props!
This movie is obviously geared towards 8 year olds. A robot named "Jet Jaguar" who programs himself and then is capable of enlarging his size... ok whatever. Another romp through the Japanese nuclear waste sagas of Godzilla. Not much else to say, except that if you have small children it might be worth renting. Godzilla movies of this era are kinda "seen one seen them all", IMHO. But they can be some fun and laughs.
Brother on the Run (1973)
He's mean, he's hungry and he's back!
A black exploitation flick of the early 70's about a college/high school teacher who tries to intervene and rescue his student who is being pursued by the law. The professor happens to have sexual intercourse with at least 2 different women on his way to save his student. I've gotta love the title music track fr this movie, very 70's... "Brother on the run...etcetcetc. If you see t in the $3.00 video bin at your local video outlet pick it up for your own little amusement. It's not a must see, it's more like a "gotta see it to believe it" (in ways). Hehe.. the editor for this film should have been canned, (a hint) lay off the qualudes.
Tang shan da xiong (1971)
Dope in ice!
An excellent Bruce Lee debut! Raymond Chow and company sure knew how to make a good movie for a great star. The music score is intense on top of it! The climax fight scene at the end is well worth waiting for. Go out and buy the box set, that's the best way to have the greatest Bruce Lee movies. A++
MASH (1970)
The greatest war movie!
You have to give this movie a ton of credit for letting entire generations laugh and cry while learning about a war that most history books don't even really acknowledge. A fan of M*A*S*H for life. A perfect 10!
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Easily the greatest horror flick of all time...
I saw this movie when I was 8 years old. I had seen Dawn of the Dead earlier that week and couldn't wait to see the original NOLD. This movie stands as testimony that George A. Romero is one of the greatest directors and cinematographers of our times. Kudos to everyone who participated in creating this movie! a perfect 10! BUY IT!
Star Trek: Where No Man Has Gone Before (1966)
Before all else a god must have compassion!
One of my favorite Star Trek episode.s Capt. Kirk rules! I wonder why Sally Kellerman wasn't in more of the orig. Star Trek episodes, she did great. Every one did great. The music and effects are top notch and so is "Tybolds "Nightin' gale woman" written on the Canopius planet back in 1996". Ah, nevermind you'll understand when you watch the show... So go watch it!
San Daikaijû Chikyû Saidai no Kessen (1964)
This is what really happened to the people of Mars!
Wow a three headed beast from outer-space, so powerful that it requires the help of Rodan, Mothra and Godzilla to take him out. You've gotta love that huh. This is one of my more favored Godzilla oriented pictures. I'll give it a 7. Check it out! (those twin fairies are funny as heck.)
The Wasp Woman (1959)
A drive-in classic.
Good movie, with very very few effects and the ones they do use make the movie completely campy. Roger Corman did well with movie at least in my opinion. Dr. Xinthrop is a riot! The music of Fred Katz is great as well. You just can't turn this one down. A 10!
What ever happened to flicks like this...hmmm:)
Billy the Kid Versus Dracula (1966)
The makers of video I watched this movie on ask us to "wait while they changed reels"!
Boy oh boy, where do we begin with this one....hehe. John Carradine portrays quite the mean spirited Dracula in this flick, calling an elderly doctor a "backwoods-female-pill-slinger" (HAHA:) One of the funniest things about this movie is the editing. I love how one minute no-one is standing in a film frame and then what do ya know, there stands Count Dracula. I would have used a lap-dissolve....:( Overall you have to see this movie to believe it! The version I watched looked like it was taken from a 16mm print that was rescued from an abandoned school library.... (20 years too late).
Dracula vs. Frankenstein (1971)
If I find it on 16mm, I'll show it at my drive-in!
This movie is fun for the entire family. It features one of the greatest "drug-trip-sequences" ever captured on film, it has the last performance of the classic movie star, Lon Chaney. You've gotta love any flick that somehow packs bikers, classic monsters, hippies and a blond with a body and cleavage that won't stop all in one movie. I don't know how to exlain it better than this... the acting is bad, the directing is sub standard the effects are complete crap but it's still an excellent flick. duh, go buy it:)
Hungry Wives (1972)
A "must" see for Romero fans, a "maybe" see for those who are not.
Season Of The Witch deals with a middle-aging woman whose daughter is moving out of the house and whose husband is always away at work. She becomes plagued by clairvoyant-like dreams, takes up witch-craft, has an affair with her daughter's college professor and eventually due to her paranoia, kills off the last strand of normal life she had. Of course this strand being her husband. By the end of the film she has been completely indoctrinated into her local witches coven. If you are a Romero fan like myself rent it or buy it, if not just rent it.
