Broken Flowers (2005)
Boring
A lot of nothingness going on here. Murray hardly acts at all - he mostly sits and stares. Bill Murray is certainly more talented than this venue presents him. There are very few laughs, and not much poignancy. I refuse to believe this was a good film. The pacing was excruciating, and the dialog boring. I can't even say that editing would help, because there was very little substance. The premise was sorta interesting - too bad the actors weren't given better lines and more time to be engaging. I agree with a few others that the only good part was the nudity of Sharon Stone's daughter. What a shame, there isn't a better scene than the almost gratuitous nudity.
Signs (2002)
Unbelievably Hokey and Contrived
All spoilers - for others who want to vent!
Mel was bad - he knows a rotten script when he sees it. Who stays alone with Aliens in their house unarmed? The kid had his inhaler the whole darn time, but now leaves it behind? With all our great special effects, we couldn't have a decent alien? Are we supposed to believe the wife is severed so she can save her son? The kid buys one book on aliens which happens to have their house in it? I could rant on and on..
Anyway, I was very disappointed that so many people liked it - no wonder Bush has good ratings - just goes to show you, what the average person's mentality is!
Chicken Run (2000)
Not the least bit funny
Three of us went to the movie, expecting great things. We all have a very good sense of humor, and to say that we were disappointed is an understatement. I am sure the quality of the claymation was good, but we didn't laugh out loud once. Nor did anyone else in the theater. One small child called out "I no like this movie" and three other people left. We all wanted to walk out, but kept thinking that it might get better. I liked the rats a tiny bit, but I can hardly believe the reviews this movie is getting. I always thought I enjoyed British humor, so I cannot believe this is why I didnt like Chicken Run. There were a few clever puns, but big deal. Give me Toy Story any day, show me Babe, but geesh, don't make me suffer through this one again.
Wonder Boys (2000)
A bit too dull for me
I agree totally with Totoro's assessment of the movie - I was really looking forward to it and I found the comedy too sporadic and only moderately funny most of the time when it was supposed to be moreso. In addition, the script was rather ordinary and the pacing awkward. The story lacked cohesiveness. Leer's actions were not logical, and half the time Sarah didn't seem to be in love with Grady. And did she have to look so dowdy all the time? In fact, when Grady let the coat go at the end, I lost what little faith I had in logic. My husband, who did not want to see the movie, enjoyed it far more than I, so thanks to Totoro for making me feel better.
