Like Crazy (2011)
pragmatic lovers
After watching a movie, I always check IMDb.com to see what other people thought of this movie just to compare it with what i thought. It was a bit of let down when i saw that it only got a 6.9 out of 10 by 4k+ people who rated it. I could not believe it since I would have given it 9 or at least an 8.
Most of the time I find out that the movies i like have 8+ on IMDb, but this one of the rare exceptions. I have rated more than 200 movies on IMDb.com, and I only rate movies which i have seen from cover to cover. So i saw the review details and was a bit relieved to find out that the arithmetical mean of the rating that people gave on IMDb was 7.3; although it should have been better.
So I am writing this review to let everyone know that as a person who's fond of strong, intelligent story telling and acting, I absolutely enjoyed every bit of the movie. That is not to say that the emotions running in this movie are easy to take. Whatever it is, I think it felt, to me, very realistic and believable.
My 9/10. Give it a chance, you won't regret it.
Politist, adjectiv (2009)
loved it!!
loved it, so simple, yet meaningful, real-life like, and profound. Enjoyed every minute of it. The movie is full of peace, love! Any person who loves to look deeper in movies and scripts will immensely enjoy the experience.
This movie makes you think that how in studio movies, we have moved away from real life and into make-up, gadgetry, fancy cars, fancy houses and in the process we loose the real feeling that makes a movie close to life. The movie is set in no pretentious neighborhood, no fancy houses, cars, dresses and gadgets. Because all is real.
Plot: a police detective is faced by a situation where his moral voice does not allow him to follow orders and become a party in the arrest of some kids who smoke hashish. He believes that if he became a party to the arrest, his will never be able to walk with clear conscious. The movie is all about how he does not want to do something which he thinks will haunt him for the rest of his life.
Dead Man Walking (1995)
this movie shows that sometimes there are no blacks or white, but just shades of grey
THE MOVIE AS A DEBATE: the movie is a significant contribution towards our understanding of the nature of the issue of capital punishment. and it has done an exceptional job in showing to us that sometimes it is not possible to take sides. The message is not put out there, it is hidden, not the obvious, and the movie doesn't try to look like it is propagating any message.
a viewer could quiet possibly shift his stance from pro to against capital punishment or the other way around and at the end might have no opinion of all. Early in the movie when Mathew (Sean Penn) says that "i ain't killed anybody", you sort of wait to see if he really ain't a culprit, and sort of sympathize with a man on dead row, because you are not convinced that he is a culprit. Then the victim's parents grief and the horrible scenes from the murder site make you want to see the man who caused all of that dead. THE MOVIE AS ART: you definitely feel something is missing in the movie. it leaves you unsatisfied. there is little or no character development, and the acting is not so good. What makes this movie a worthwhile experience is the fact that it lets you peek into the last days of a man who is going to be executed, the people whose life he changed forever. and a good job has been done into achieving all of this. Scores are great and Nusrat Fateh Ali KHan just adds too much to the movie.
Rachel Getting Married (2008)
Good performance by Hatheway which sheds light on addicts' lives. But there are some things you might not like in this movie.
A word of praise for the overall story and casting and for Hathaway's portrayal of an addict coming home for just a weekend for her sister's marriage. This is a good-and-highly-watchable movie, but i must say it is not the kind of movies you'll call entertaining. You might say I liked the way it portrayed a middle-class young addict losing connection from her family and the normal life that other people live. If you are looking for a laughable entertainment over the weekend, or taking your date to cinema, then look for somewhere else because the subject matter discussed here is about grief, sorrow and regrets. However, it gets pleasant where everyone proposes toasts when all the family and friends are sitting a big room.
The movie goes smooth except where you don't understand why Hathaway's sister fall for a nerdy looking not-a-match-for-her guy and actually is marrying her. It is embarrassing for the viewer to see the couple obsessively kissing each other every now and then in what seems unreal, unrealistic and overly-acted.
If you enjoy drama, and movies focusing on household relations, tensions and connections, you wont be disappointed to watch this movie. If for nothing else, you should watch it for the brilliant performance from an actress who's going to stay in movies for a while.
Kisses and Caroms (2006)
It's not as bad as it's rating in IMDb
The low rating is typical of the IMDb, i-e; movies with no famous celebrity are mostly underrated. In other words, if there are two similar movies with same level of acting, the one with famous celebrity will get overrated and the one with no famous celebrity will typically get underrated.
I admire the director for managing to make a video with all the characteristic of a typical movie within a very limited happenings. The movie hardly covers a couple of days of the routine life of a snooker shop and a couple of events. Prices of snooker items were tagged excluding the taxes, people would baffle when they know that they have to pay more than what they saw on the price tag. Then there were other things, which u can see in the movie.
Pearl Harbor (2001)
Apart from controversy it is an excellent movie!
I was surprised to find out that this movie is not in IMDb top 250 list. More astonishing thing is that many of the people are giving it rating 1. Come on people! the movie at least deserves better. I accept that the history it depicts may be inexact, the story moves slowly, the love story is sappy but apart from those things it was good overall.
People who do not have seen this movie Don't listen the people who say this movie is a crap. Listen what argument they give for its being crap. All of them are getting emotional. If u see through all of the hundreds of Comments written here you will find that most of the US citizens and some UK citizens are giving it bad rating. That is because they think their history is distorted or they have seen enough of WW movies.
This movie deserves that you see it yourself and then decide which side you are in.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Every second of this movie is spectacular.
I liked this movie when I first time watched it but it was never my "the best" movie. Then I happened to watch it again and ever since it is by far the most enjoyable movie i have seen.
Andy(Tim Robbins) is a true social spirit. It was after Andy's(Tim Robbins) hundreds of letters that was sent to the authorities requesting funds for the prison's library that they at lastcsent the fund with the words "Please stop sending us letters". He teaches a fellow inmate to get degree. It was the same student who told Andy about a man he knew who has killed Andy's wife (for this crime Andy was in the Shawshank Prison). The Warden could not let Andy go as he was his key to financial success. From that moment Andy was committed to take revenge. And he did it.
Every second of this movie is spectacular. It is the best movie I have ever seen and heard of! Enjoy every word of it!
50 First Dates (2004)
It was a good time pass! and time pass only
This is a sort of movie that can make you switch-off TV. It is a mediocre type of movie. There is no wit, no thrill, no romantic scenes; nothing but a novel love story about a man who falls in love to a girl in a restaurant. That girl happens to have lost his memory and only can remember things of a day and that too for the same day.So the boy has to introduce himself to her daily.
There is not much that this movie offers. Not very well acted either. Though Barrymore was good.
