Longlegs (2024)
Amazing Production Values, Longlegs Advertisement let it down
The new release of a slow burner horror film, seemed interesting. The advertisement hyped this movie quite a bit, and probably too much. The slow-burn story did work well, we got to see the world building and the setting it takes place in. It does sort of loose me when the Legs aren't as long, and when it wasn't as scary as expected, many have pointed out. I would agree, the death scene at the start was well shot, very intense and atmospheric, the Scares were there, but the rest of the film doesn't have many Scares after that point. The old Styled film making is great as you really feel like your in that timezone. And the story does this really well. The slow-burner horror worked in many ways, but better marketing and it might of been a success. Decent Entertainment though however and some great world building.
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Massively Fun
The Whole Movie is a good fun time, the movie doesn't have much of a plot, but if your looking for a fun movie then this is the one for you. I thought the action was fine, mostly too bloody and I think therefore it's a little dull when it does come to the action. But other then that this feel had plenty of laughs, Hugh is one of the best casting choices of all time, and Ryan has a Stella performance as Deadpool once again. The Chemistry is on point, they both have some laughs, it's the same type of humour you'd expect, and I understand it might not be for everyone, I completely understand. Deadpools first Installment had many laughs too, But yes the humour can be a thing of the past, I did have some laughs though however. I sincerely hope you enjoy the movie, It's dumb fun and fantastic. Top Marks from me!
Doctor Who: Journey's End (2008)
Too Messy
The second part is much worse then the second part, the Doctor gets an extra hand, the other doctor is fairly cringey and not very well written. And the episode is too fast paced, and it doesn't end in a satisfying conclusion. The other Finales although had the reset button, it had consequences. But this Reset situation doesn't work so it ruins the Impact of the other Episodes. It was good, but it wasn't perfect or anything. I think Part 1 should of been higher, as the second part undoes the first Part as it was so impactful, story wise great, and had some funny moments. Part 2 doesn't feel as great. It's still Good though.
Doctor Who: The Stolen Earth (2008)
Flawless First Parter
Seeing all the Characters Reactions to the voice of the Daleks is powerfully Haunting and very scary in the best way possible. The Characters all being in the same time zone, and the shifted planets is top sci-fi Storytelling. It does show that the Doctor doesn't know what's going on, and shows him in a different time zone. Which is cleverly done. Doctor is completely out of time, and the episode was perfectly set up by Turn Left which was very good, setting up more world building by having it as the Bad Wolf Logo. And Davros is wonderfully brilliant and a great audition to the episode and siries. It works very well here. And I very much enjoyed the whole saga. Every character from Russels Era was wonderful to see, and It was great to see all of there Reactions to the Daleks. When the Doctor does find out what's going on, the cliffhanger is impactful and very well done, especially because Rose is there. And he then regenerates.
Doctor Who: Turn Left (2008)
Turn Left is one of the Best
Very Good Episode, Hauntingly brilliant. I very much enjoyed this episode on first release and still think it's the best in Season 4. I enjoyed everything about this episode, the pacing, the story, how time would feel like without the Doctor, it's just amazingly done and cleverly executed. And it shows all of the episodes from the past in this era, that shows the brilliance of World Building. Donna and Rose have good Chemistry and the mystery surrounding the Left or Right turn is certainly very well done. It does pretty well in terms of story and action, and without the Doctor the world would be destroyed. Also showing the importance of the Doctor. And Catherine Tate puts up her Best performance to date in the show.
Doctor Who: Midnight (2008)
Very Good Episode
It is not amongst the Best, But it is really good. The whole plot is revolved around a ship that travels to a planet called Midnight. Donna is honestly Hillarious and is out of the Doctor's way, she is on a different planet enjoying the wine and relaxing. Whereas the Doctor has to try and stop a creature, an unknown creature that takes on somebodies host. I like the realism, every character argues, acts as how anybody would react in that situation. It works well, and it is something Russell T Davies is so good at making, it feels real and very natural in that approach. How the creature copies the Doctor is hauntingly brilliant. And making the Doctor weak was powerful. Very well produced, and very well written. Superb.
Doctor Who: Forest of the Dead (2008)
Amazing
The second part of the two-parter heavily evolves around Dr. Moon and the young girl, it also shows what an amazing story was told. It's very clever, the concept of the Vashta Nerada was brilliantly introduced, they haunt your shadows, which is a very interesting concept. What's even better is where it is set. The Episode is set in a Library, so there's often drafts, it does get a bit drafty in Libraries. So to see it here is great. I very much enjoyed the story, like a tone of other People. I think it is a standout in more ways then one, and I think it's only just behind Heaven Sent. Which is a very high Bar. Excellent Episode. I very Much enjoyed it.
Doctor Who: Silence in the Library (2008)
One Of the Best
My Second Favourite episode of Doctor Who. This Episode was spectacular, the story was well-made and produced. The young girl was great, and she had some amazing moments, as clever as the moment from Blink, where she is holding the Remote Control and it makes some things happen. The Vashta Nerada were one of the best one of villains, they had some great moments, scary and brilliant all at the same time. The Count the Shadows, or there chilling saying, Who turned out the lights? Would send chivers down young kids spines. I really enjoyed the mystery surrounding River Song, I thought she was well introduced to the show. I'd say she had some of her best moments here, as she was slightly overreactionary in the Smith Era. So it's great to see her at her best here. I thought this episode was Boring as a Kid, well I sort of was young-ish. But now I can appreciate the high class storytelling and the amazing pacing and acting. Very cool. Gets a perfect score.
Doctor Who: The Unicorn and the Wasp (2008)
More Doctor Who Episodes should be like this
Yes the Plot is mostly a streight Forward mystery, and adds the Whodunit for the episode. However, when you have a likeable and talented cast it becomes all the more enjoyable. I can't say that I've seen many murder mysteries, however this Agatha Christine's murder and Whodunit episode is thoroughly laugh out load fun and very enjoyable. Tennant and Tate are at there best here, as they have a stronger bond then in most episodes, and that's not easy to beat. Especially when they both have perfect chemistry. Felicity Jones is always a delight in anything she's in, and the Wasp as the Villain was cleverly added into the story. Very Good and Fun, Do more of these types of stories please.
Doctor Who: The Doctor's Daughter (2008)
Another (well Almost) Perfect Story in Season 4.
Which remains as the strongest Season, with of course close contenders. This stories faults would be to do with the fact it tries to show to many important storylines that feel rather forced, rather then earned. Other then that though, the Hath are interesting villains, Martha was used as a real life Doctor which was interesting. And the Doctor's Daughter was also a very nice concept, it works because we see her regenerate like the Doctor, she has two hearts, and she is clever when it comes to gymnastics. This Episode also shows two enemies competing with each other, they try and end a War that's been going on for years, I personally Enjoyed this trope, it is fascinating how the trope is so close to the Sontarens, who are always attempting a fight and a War. This concept does provide insight to what might make an interesting enough storyline if used correctly. And Imagine if this was the Last Season of the show, it would end on a real High. Season 5 was very watchable and doesn't have any real weak episodes either though, so that's interesting.
Doctor Who: The Poison Sky (2008)
ATMOS and Sontarens Take Down the World!
The Unit force are now trapped at base where the Sontarens try and take them down, Ross was seriously injured and died instantly from one Sontaren Shot. The Doctor, Donna and Martha all help to try and save the world, and hopefully the Planet. Sontarens seem much less of a joke here, and more of a threat. Not that they weren't in the First part, but it seemed like set up, whereas Part II shows the Sontarens being there brutal selves and killing innocent Soldiers. They all go down in Battle, but the Sontarens are too strong for the humans, with there guns and the technology they have, the Doctor is the only one who can stop them. I like How Donna also goes up to the Ship. And the Ship does blow up, but it sets up the Sarah Jane Episode really well. And Siries 2 of the Sarah Jane Adventures was probably the best Written and Produced. Maybe I'll rank them next after all of siries 1-14's are done.
Doctor Who: The Sontaran Stratagem (2008)
Best Villains Of Siries 4 in the Early Run
Sontarens are back, and boy do they pose a real threat. They seem to be strong and forcefull and even disarm any sort of Weapon with ease, even if it's a Sniper Gun or just a regular Gun. They bring back a sort of scare factor to the Show, Which Siries 4 at the Start doesn't have scare Factor type episodes as of Such. Luke Rattigan is annoying as the genius scientist but he's an okay protagonist. It's really the return of Martha that deserves high praise, as that was brilliant. She is a much different and much stronger character. This works to her advantage as she's not having to rely on the Doctor so much, and this concept works. Seeing Sylvia and Wilf for a bit is always a delight. As the Episode ends on a high with Donna being stuck in her Car, and the Gas all poors out all over the street, which is what the Sontarens did. The Episode leades excitingly to the next one.
Doctor Who: Planet of the Ood (2008)
Ood, and Doctor Donna
What an Episode, the pacing is just perfect. This again was a peak time to enjoy Doctor who, I must of been about 10. And watching this Siries reminded me of peak television. Good acting, great cinematography and Villains, Kinda Villains. The Doctor and Donna travel to a planet containing Ood, they see them in Red Eye form. And they seem to keep repeating the Circle Must be Broken! It was chilling just thinking about that Sentance. The Doctor is almost picked up by one of the machines the guard was using, and the fact the Ood are so menacing and almost deadly is insane. The Bad Ood was an interesting concept. Everything about this Episode is just pure Perfection, However I rated this a 9 and not a 10/10 on the Fact the Person in charge of the whole things Operation, has a really gross looking Death. Other then that this Episode is fabulously well-crafted and re-introduces some great Villains.
Doctor Who: The Fires of Pompeii (2008)
A very Good Cinematic Episode
This episode was another cracking Episode. Which Siries 4 has some very good ones, I enjoyed this one but never loved it. I think the atmosphere rising before the Credits rolled at the start was fantastic and really gave the episode an intense and exciting start. Peter Capaldi is fantastically delightful as he always is. The Doctor wasn't as good here, Donna and David's chemistry is still on point but it doesn't seem as strong here as the first Episode. The Doctor seems to not want to save the others, but luckily Donna's there to tell him it's okay, and the laws of Physics can brake for the better. The Villain is also fairly weak, but the intense and action-packed thrill ride makes this a decent time-8/10.
Doctor Who: Partners in Crime (2008)
A Lighter Introduction to the Siries
What a time it was to be a fan of this show back then, the episodes were amazing. I remember the Finale of this siries having had such an amazing cliffhanger. Series 4 is probably the best siries, it's certainly the best siries that I can remember, all the episodes are Flawless. We get to see Donna doing some jernalism to do with Adipose Industries, and we see how her Grandpa, Wilf is into stars and space. And has a great relationship with her, however Nana is mostly a nagger and reminds her of all her faults, Sylvia's a pretty funny character too, she overacts to the littlest of things. Donna and The Doctor have perfect Chemistry, and are brilliant together. They work so much better then Rose and Martha and Donna offers so much more to the Doctor, Just a Mate! At the end signifies them as just friends and no more and no less, this change worked. And the Adipose whilst aren't great villains, do seem to spark some interest to me, and the Episode is largely very Entertaining. Series 4 starts out slower then the back-half, but still has incredibly good Episodes.
Doctor Who: Last of the Time Lords (2007)
The End of a Decent Series
This episode is another good episode, Part 3 does get alot right. The negatives and the critical analysis of the Episode has spread from the years. But I honestly kinda love it. Martha shows her independence for the first time and it shows her grown up self and she's even got a partner. As this episode is a year long. However, the anti-climax is rather lackluster, Series 1's and 2's Finale it worked because there were consequences to people's actions, Rose was stuck and left on a Planet just because she has some sort of energy transplanted into her. Here it feels forced and unsatisfying to say the least. And the God Doctor was slightly cringey. With those negatives, the episode is still fantastic. Martha Is at her best here, and we see more of her confidence side in Series 4, so this part of the story is very well built up and Important for that reason. It also has the Master dying. Which is what we might of thought, and it does add another layer of threat and emotion that's caused by the Master himself. The fear factor is even shown by his wife. So some good, but also some bad moments let this one down slightly.
Doctor Who: The Sound of Drums (2007)
Very Strange Episode, But also very Cool at the same time
The second part has are gang travelling back to Earth. Where they see the unfortunate sound of Drums hence the episodes title, and the Master as the Prime Minister. This episode is not better then the creative and compelling excellence of Utopia by any means. But it does serve as a good first entry to the Master. Who is hammy and a little too cheesy. But the Toglaphane or something like that, I mean they do make the Master a real threat, and it does have some political allegory here. As well as Martha's family in danger, and I like how Martha becomes independent, we really see her being able to cope with and without the Doctor, and him being in danger does create the all important stakes that we need for a Finale. I feel as though Captain Jack is slightly under developed here, but they wouldn't be on Planet Earth if it wasn't for his gadget getting them to Earth I suppose. So It does more or less show his importance to the group, but besides that he doesn't have a whole lot going for him, onto the next part. Part 3.
Doctor Who: Utopia (2007)
Utopia
Utopia is known for it's clever twist, great pacing and story. It is one of the better Episodes in Siries 3, and has outstanding performances by the cast themselves. Martha is very good here. Captain Jack is the standout though however, John Barrowman is great, and his chat with the Doctor is almost peak writing for the show. I say almost peak as It is very good, but Doomsday and Blink, with Family of Blood have some better writing, and whilst I don't normally do counterparts, this one time I feel deemed fit to. The episode is clever at the end and adds up the stakes to take us into Part 2. The Master reveal is chef's kiss and the Master right at the end steels the Doctor's Tardis, he is so much fun as the Master John Simm.
Doctor Who: Blink (2007)
9.8 why not 10?
There's no way I can describe this episode as Bad, or not even that good, or average or Overatted. Because in reality,it's the very best episode. It was fantastically made, written and produced. The pacing was on point and I never felt bored or zoned out. The Weeping Angels are hide behind your sofa type villains, and the Doctor on the TV is amazing and ahead of it's time, not only was the scene well written, well performed but also well lit, and executed. Nancy Mulligan is a well written character, the writing and the performance was top notch and everything good about Doctor Who. Dark, atmospheric and dark, with a good lead roll. Blink is an episode that was always ahead of it's time. It was always exceptionally well introduced to the show. The idea that the Angels constantly had to be stared down adds that fear factor to them. And that's why they are my personal favourite Villains. Blink is a true masterpiece, maybe it will always be the best episode. This definitely deserves a 10 out of 10. 9.8 out of 10 is high, but isn't high enough.
Doctor Who: The Family of Blood (2007)
Creative excellence, Masterful storytelling
The first introduction to the family was horrifying, and now in and amongst a party, the family have captured they want the most, the Doctor. But, He is completely different and doesn't know about his past, he had to change himself because if the Family of Blood could of caught him, this puts the Doctor or should I say John Smith in a difficult situation and it's really fun to see the Doctor being put through a test, a hard decision. Which could cost someone or anyone. And if anything that makes a perfect episode, if the Doctor is put through a tough time. It creates excitement and tension and it doesn't get the situation resolved as easily. That's why Martha is very important, she has to try and make the Doctor remember who he truly is. And the immortality and the brutal side of the Doctor at the end shows, when the Family of Blood are trapped, and forever suffering ever more.
Doctor Who: Human Nature (2007)
One of the Very Best!
The quality of Season 3 near the end is the best, and some of the very best of Who, it shows back to back 10 out of 10 Episodes, where the format of each episode has top notch storytelling and Characters, Series 3 introduces this first and then it does become a theme for the next few Siries as well. Highlighting and Colmunating in a very good story, and way. This shows a School, the Doctor having to hide his true identity, being around normal people with normal lives. This makes him weak, and the threat is up there with the best. Martha has to find her own independence, and she finds out the family of Blood and tries to tell the Doctor, only is very different and is a fully fleshed human. Okay I'll admit Martha's treatment isn't very good and she was treated poorly, but that doesn't hinder on the rest of the episodes quality. And It lends itself well into Part 2.
Doctor Who: 42 (2007)
42
A very Underatted Episode, 42 was a fantastic thrill-ride that managed to keep the suspense and the entertainment throughout the episode. It was exciting and very intense most of the way through. Martha having some depth too, having a love interest aside from the Doctor was an interesting way to go for our companion, and Freema Agyman puts on yet another brilliant display. She was great through the whole run of Series 3. There are some badly written characters, the side characters aren't particularly well written. Apart from the love Interest of Martha and the other couple, which her husband had turned into the monster. So they need better side characters, but for the thought, the fun and adventurous tone of this episode, it was exceptionally fun. And compelling.
Doctor Who: The Lazarus Experiment (2007)
A Fun But Flawed adventure
The Lazarus Experiment is one of those solid episodes, but with a threadbare plot, and a badly designed villain it does most of the time get criticism. However, it is very fun. And seeing Martha's family in the episode was a breath of fresh air. And seeing the Experiment as like a proper science Experiment was a really fun and interesting way to present the episode, and the future and the whole aging thing is an inspiring if strange decisions. And even though it isn't the Best in Series 3, that isn't a bad thing as it Isn't a bad Episode. Series 3 is just really, really strong. So I'd say the 6.5 rating out of 10 is harsh. I enjoyed it, and the Doctors speech is excellently written and performed by David Tennant.
Doctor Who: Evolution of the Daleks (2007)
A decent Conglusion
Like the first part it does have some good ideas, but I don't think they all come together. The Kult of Skaro are more threatening in this second part, and pose a real threat to the homeless people. The Pig slaves are also far more threatening and pose a threat on the Civillians. This works as this is what the Daleks are like more often then not. And in the small surroundings it makes for a bigger impact. And David Tennant puts on a brilliant display after Solomon was brutally killed by the Dalek. The Doctors anger and rage is there for all to see, and his despair at what the Dalek did is shown well. So overall, I'd say this episode made slightly more sense, and therefore is slightly better then the other part.
Doctor Who: Daleks in Manhattan (2007)
Very Cool Setting
1930's Manhatten is great and stunning to look at. I think whilst this is a solid episode not all of it gells together. Like the Human Dalek element is a good idea but it's very underdeveloped that it doesn't fit with the episode. And the Pig slaves while a decent idea, it doesn't make much sense. Because, Daleks would kill anyone in there path. I do quite like the ideas though, and the setting is great. An idea that does work is the homeless people of New York, there's a slight joke about the tallest building being build and others in Manhatten feeling desperate and starving for Food and anything. This concept works well, and I feel they were integrated into the story nicely. As the struggles of Poverty is important and was in those times, and perhaps more so. But It'll be a problem for many generations either way. The Kult of Skaro are also back. And they do seem as scary as they were the last time. They try and make a different breed of Dalek, in the human way. And then the ending is very intense and well pieced together to make an exciting, if slightly flawed first part.
