The Idol (2023)
Not as bad as the rating might suggest
Right so this probably isn't a 7 but a solid 6.5 so far, rating it up as people seem to bombing this for some reason.
Anyway, the acting is quite good generally, impressed with miss Depp, she really is a good actress, can't really say much about The Weekend's acting because he hasn't done much yet(lots of hate on other reviews though), I can comment on the hair though, who the hell thought about that?
I've only watched one episode but it kept me intrigued enough to watch the next episode so this is certainly not a 4, people need to stop bringing political and social views when reviewing a TV show, watch it for what it is, entertainment.
There's nudity, profanity, etc. Suck it up, it's rated for a mature audience.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
A glitch in the matrix
I am fan of The Matrix, a film released in a year that I consider one of the best, if not the best ever, in film releases, American beauty, the sixth sense, fight club, the green mile, girl interrupted, being John malkovich, Notting Hill, Magnolia... These were all released in 1999 and still The Matrix stood out. When I heard they were doing another Matrix I was excited and intrigued to see what they were going with the story and a bit worried they'd ruin the legacy.
I watched it last night and while it was nice to revisit the characters and the matrix universe, this does not feel a Matrix movie, the tone is wrong, the tool palette is wrong(more Speed Racer and Tim Burton's Willy Wonka than Matrix) , the special effects are worse than in the original, the fights look so fake it's ridiculous and the plot is, well, just a mess. The movie feels cheap and I'm sure it wasn't..
I really wanted to like this, but unfortunately this is just milking the original and watering it down.
Ultimately this doesn't deserve a 1 nor a 10 as I've seen from haters and fans but probably a 5, which is a shame.
Dune: Part One (2021)
Finally a film worthy of its name
Everything here is great, photography, design, Hans Zimmer's score really sets the tone and ambience of the film. Fantastic performances throughout and especially by Chalamet. If you haven't been to the cinema since the pandemic began this is the film to return.
I really hope this does incredibly well at the box office because we (and the entire team that worked on this masterpiece) deserve a sequel(s?).
Sex Education (2019)
Season 1 way better than the 2nd
If I was rating this based on Season 1, I'd give this an 8.
Somehow they manage to ruin this for me on season 2, everything is exaggerated, over the top, doesn't feel relatable at all. All these kids of 16 years old do is talk about sex or do sex, plus, there are more gay couples than straight couples, its just not realistic. Before you call me old fashioned or prude or whatever you may think, I just don't see how this is supposed to reflect teenagers today, might not be politically correct but thats the way I see it.
If they go for a 3rd season they won't be having me as a viewer.
Solace (2015)
Not great but still a very enjoyable good movie..
Honestly, give it a shot. It's a lot better than you are expecting after reading all the bad reviews and the rating it has here on IMDb. The only problem I have with this movie is with the casting.. while Hopkins and Farrell do well, the other two(Abbie Cornish and Jeffrey Dean Morgan) are just rubbish, Abbie in particular was really embarrassing to watch, even though she is good looking, her acting is just excruciatingly bad! Both of them are as convincing as FBI agents as a squirrel. There are a few bad dialogue lines and some clichés but the story is compelling and Hopkins still delivers.
Other than that, it is an enjoyable and engaging movie.
