Mayfair Witches (2023)
Horrific - and I watched it all
I was excited to see this project, because the only way to bring the books to life is through a long-form series, but this is unbelievably bad - like a third-grade fairy tale bad. Anne Rice is listed as an executive producer, and even though she died in 2021, I had assumed (hoped) that she had some input in the show, but there is absolutely no way she would have approved any of the drivel of this show. They took an exceptional, beautiful book and turned it into utter crap. They are so smart that they wouldn't even use the characters she created. The people responsible for this garbage are laughing all the way to the bank, and AMC can only blame themselves. If you enjoyed the books, save your time and skip this idiocy.
Outer Range (2022)
Absurd
Great concept, great cast, great budget - what a waste of eight hours. I wish I could even tell you what it was about, but I can't, and I would challenge anyone to explain it. For any of the great ratings, I would say those peeps do not need anything to make sense as long as the scenery is pretty, and they certainly don't need to understand the plot. Please - sell crazy somewhere else.
Dexter (2006)
Stop after Season 4 and you have a perfect show
Hard to believe that Showtime would let a piece of gold turn into a turd after four seasons, but they did. Seasons 1-4 are as good as any show I've ever seen, a solid 10, would recommend to anyone and beg them to watch. Holds up wonderfully even in 2021. Seasons 5,6,7 were not good, but had some good moments. Season 8 is as bad as you will find anywhere. Honestly think it was written by sixth graders, I was begging for it to be over - how the actors could put up with the idiocy is beyond me, but I guess they were being paid plenty by then. If you love the first four seasons, watch the next three and enjoy the characters, then read the spoilers to see how season 8 ends. It will truly leave a bad taste in your mouth if you watch the last season.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
What a waste of money and talent
Compelling enough to make me watch it all, but absolutely nothing to make me watch a second season - and there would have to be another season. Turned off by the finale. It could be because I'm old, but I think there should be at least one character in a series that you care about, and this doesn't offer one.
Palm Springs (2020)
How could you not like it?
Wonderful, loved every minute - and have already watched it again. Don't tune in if you need to be depressed, it will disappoint.
The Outsider (2020)
Outstanding from start to finish
One of the best Stephen King adaptations ever. Takes all of his good stuff and eliminates the bad. Jason Bateman is becoming elite.
Troop Zero (2019)
Outstanding - Exactly what you would expect from the previews
This movie is exactly what you think it is from the previews - a wonderful family show with some laugh-out-loud lines and colorful characters. And as a south Georgia native, the accents are fine and the representation of the poor, rural south in 1977 is spot on. This is not an Oscar contender, but if you want to laugh, feel good, and watch something with your family that doesn't foretell the end of humanity, turn it on and enjoy. For you poor fools who expected something else, Michael Moore has a fine line-up that will give you plenty of ammunition for your weekend debates.
