La peau blanche (2004)
Friend vs girlfriend
A good movie for the great directing of Daniel Roby. The main character is sort of useless if just to introduce the secondary ones . From the start one feels there is something strange going on. Reminded me of Cat people with Nastasja Kinski a while back . Too bad no one paid attention, this movie is a sleeper .
Hello-Goodbye (1970)
Absolutely fabulous
I first saw this movie on TV in th mid-70's . I found it on youtube recently and realized it was even better than when I first saw it . The early 70's were fantastic for those movies made in France with a mixed cast . The main characters chemistry makes the film a classic and that is why I could never get it off my mind . It's unfortunate that no one saw Geneviève Gilles's potential , she basically radiates. The critics killed this movie but as my grandma used to say " everyone is entitled to his/her opinion " . I beg to differ.... This was a great film !
Cheech (2006)
Strange and aloof
A movie I saw in a theater when it was just out. I did not know most of the actors. Patrice Robitaille and François Létourneaux were just getting famous for their work with the tv show " les invincibles " at the time . It is somewhat of an art film , some of the basics are not fully explained so the spectator has to guess most of the time. I would recommend just for the great performance of Fanny Mallette.
Un homme amoureux (1987)
Little known masterpiece
I watched this movie many years ago before DVD's even existed. The script is a known one. Nothing new here but the ambiance is basically what this movie is about. The director was skillful at making this co-production keep up with a plausible script ( always an issue when money comes from different countries ) . The tone is definitely the big Hollywoog star versus the more bohemian people an A- lister might encounter when filming. Great casting as Claudia Cardinale makes a credible Greta Sccatchi's Mum. The french version was excellent ,reminded me of the good old days when Charles Bronson made his best ones in Europe. What can I say ...It's all about ambiance..Watch it 'till the very end !
A Good Year (2006)
See it
Just saw this movie today in 2016. Was fun to see it was from another era just by the look of the cellphone Russell was using. Great french version . The dubbing was flawless , made me wonder how it sounds in the original version. Does Russell Crowe speak french ?
US viewers ought to know that under french law you can not write off your offspring from your will. That's why Yves Montand was exhumed a while ago. I would just hope that one day they hire actors who are from the actual country the role calls for ?
Just one scene reminded me of "Great expectation ". The script is a known one but great job from the actors and the director.
