Stranger in Town (1998)
Cool little kid detective style movie
Let me start by saying, I don't particularly like kids, especially in movies because they tend to be precocious and annoying. That being said, I thought this was a fun movie. Definitely great for Sunday afternoon. It's not an Oscar winner, the dialogue is a little goofy at times, but it kept my interest. The homeless character is kind of a crack up. I believe they developed his character to be intentionally over the top. Too many people tend to be armchair critics and look into every aspect to find fault. Open your mind, poor yourself a cool beverage, and just watch it with no expectations. It is a cool little PG thriller that is worth your time.
The Summoned (2022)
Enjoyable thriller!
There are horror elements, but it's definitely a horror/thriller hybrid. The story kept me going. The viewer can easily pick up clues along the way, but the ending twist is very satisfying.
Ghostland (2018)
Annoying more than scary
I really wanted to like this movie. It seem to have all the elements I look for in a good horror/supernatural thriller. The film good a good job of catching my attention in the first couple of scenes. After that, I couldn't get past the screaming. For me, nothing was happening other than hysterical screaming because of the mental decline of Vera. The movie was slow and rather boring. I'm glad others enjoyed the film. For me, I need more psychological twists and a storyline that isn't muddled by unnecessary distractions. The character Vera did not add to the story but became a distraction.
Host (2020)
Nothingness
** May contains spoilers **
I was immediately annoyed as the characters were introduced. The characters are not likable. The characters are not quirky or interesting as the script tries to illicit. The first 30 minutes, the characters are bickering, whining, and wimpy. Nothing happens. The supposed entity was probably as bored as the audience. The attempt to keep the antagonist from view, only makes for confusion. Most of the scenes are from the point of view of the device the characters are using for the zoom meeting. The result is dark, shaky footage. As soon as the movie begins, it ends. There was no storytelling. This movie was pointless.
Dead End (2003)
Excellent movie!
This movie! A very entertaining horror movie. The story takes you through all of the emotions. It's campy one minute, and a little nerve-racking the next. Subtle humor is placed perfectly during the story. The mom character steals the show. I was pleasantly surprised to recognize 4 of the characters from popular tv shows. The antagonist is very mysterious, and there is not a lot of gore. For this movie, the acting was great. About halfway through the movie, I was thinking about a rating. At that time, a 6 ratings seemed appropriate. It wasn't the best movie I have seen, but it was better than average. The last 10 minutes, and to the end, I definitely had to bump my rating to an 8. If it didn't briefly lag near the middle, I easily would have given this a 9+. The ending perfectly tied the entire story together. It definitely provided an "a-ha moment". Also, when the first credits start to roll, keep watching. Give this one a chance.
