Turbulence: How safe is your flight? (2024)
Turbulence CAN kill you!
If you are scared of flying better not watch this! Because contrary to what they have always told us, turbulence CAN kill you if it's a severe form of CLEAR AIR turbulence, which is a form of invisible turbulence that CAN NOT be detected by todays airplane computers.
We get to see the harrowing event (filmed by passengers) of a flight in which a man got killed and dozens of others seriously injured up to a point they needed hospital treatment for over 6 weeks.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel though, because a smart Swiss aerospace company has developed an airplane wing that can counter severe turbulence up to a point that turbulence is no longer a physical danger to the passengers.
Sophie Morgan's Fight to Fly (2024)
Inspiring and uplifting fight for the rights of handicapped passengers on airplanes.
This documentary gives a shocking insight (with hidden camera) into what troubles and even physical dangers handicapped people have to go through when they travel by airplane, something the rest of us all take for granted, but which is a daunting and sometimes even dangerous excercise for handicapped people.
What makes this an absolute must see is the uplifting spirit for the fight for equal rights this documentary is portraying, personified by Sophia Morgan. I had goosebumps all over while watching this because it has got such a great warmhearted spirit of caring for those who are handicapped. And what's even more uplifting is to see and experience firsthand that fighting to make a change can actually make a real world difference! Beautiful!
We get to see the spirited struggle of famous journalist Sophia Morgan who was confined to a wheelchair after an accident as a teenager. She wants to change the airplanes in such a way that handicapped people can travel with the same kind of ease and dignity as anyone else.
We even get to see the American president Biden and vice president Kamala Harris lobby and create new laws that will help provide for space for wheelchairs on planes!
And this change was made possible by these wonderfully passionate and hardworking handicapped activists like Sophie Morgan among others, who made the world a better place to live in for those with disabillities.
Hihgly recommended watch! Absolutely uplifting and heartwarming example of making a change for the better!
No Negociable (2024)
Fun watch. Amusing mix of a kidnapping story and a "how to rescue my marriage" story.
Quite amusing (not laugh out loud funny) lighthearted story about a hostage negotiator whose wife gets kidnapped, with whom he was having serious marriage troubles. Can he save his wife's life?
The good: wonderful characters! The movie starts out with a detailed portrayal of a marriage counsel session with the hostage negotiator and his wife. The relationship chatter and accusations among this couple is quite amusing to watch, but never silly or over the top, which makes this movie stand out in a positve way, because I can believe in the characters and therefore I can sympathize with them easily.
Quite underrated, yet very amusing lighthearted twist on the kidnap genre.
The Happening (2008)
THIS is a WARNING
What kind of warning? Well, you have to see the movie to find out!
The good: suspend of disbelief. SOMETHING is threatening the people living on the east coast of America. They are overcome by SOMETHING and then start KILLING THEMSELVES.
This director is known for his many movies about supernatural events and this is yet another one, but of what kind? WHO or WHAT is threatening people?
Solid acting, with a lovely role (as ever) by Zoey Deschannel and Mark Wahlberg delivers as well, but not in his usual role of macho guy, but of a kind of a softmannered teacher.
Good suspense. Really good.
Any bad? Okay, the story is kinda silly, but most of these stories are kinda silly, the point is that it is entertaining from beginning till the end.
Well made mysterious movie. Not the best, but quite enjoyable!
Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Disjointed storyline, lacking in natural flow of dialogue and falling short in actors chemistry and good jokes.
I truly adored the second edtion (which was absolutely brilliant) and therefore I had high hopes for this 3rd sequel...
The bad: There is definitely a lack of good dialogue and the story is all over the place. I couldnt make sense of it. There is also a lack of good character's chemistry. It's just off. It doesnt flow like the second edition did with ease. And without a good flow and solid characters that I can relate to, without all that even some of the better jokes dont land. They fall flat.
What's left? A ton of nonstop bloody action, a lot more than the previous editions. And I get BORED by endless bloody fights just for the sake of trying to impress with CGI effects.
It's not a terrible movie for sure, but the editing is overkill with it's constant fast cuts (even in talking scenes). Not letting the characters TALK and INTERACT with each other at a more natural pace, like the second edition did that is a big let down for me.
This 3rd sequel didnt surpass the brilliant second edition I am disappointed to say. It was quite underwhelming to watch this latest 3rd sequel.
I wont recommend it to my friends and family like I did do with the brilliant second edition. Not terrible, but quite underwhelming...
Max Payne (2008)
Solid Mark Wahlbberg fantasy action thriller, despite all the videogame fans complaining it aint exactly the same as the video.
The good: if you are a Mark Wahlberg fan, you'll get your money's worth. Heck yes!
The bad: if you are a fan of the Max Payne video game then walk on by and go play some more games, because this is most likely not suited for you.
I really loved this movie. It had all the check marks a solid action thriller needs:
1. Good vs Evil. (and Good wins!)
2. Nasty bad guys, who are truly vicious.
3. TONS of rockhard ACTION.
4. Gorgeous black and white photography and a thumping soundtrack.
5. NON STOP thrill. (not a minute wasted with superfluous chit chat)
6. SOLID acting performances (with great supporting roles by Mila Kunis and Beau Bridges)
Any bad? Well, there are some scenes with flying monsters which looked pretty silly, but fortunately we didnt get to see much of those. And there are a few stupid plot turns, but these are only minor complaints...
Forget about all the video game fans who downgraded this movie on Imdb. For any regular fan of Mark Wahlberg's action movie this is one heck of a solid and cool fantasy action thriller!
Four Brothers (2005)
Great bunch of actors, but quite a silly story
NOT a tough crime movie, because the story and some of it's a characters are quite silly, which kinda deflates the whole supsense and thrill if there was any to begin with.
Not any good? Yes, these are a bunch of the best and coolest actors, who have all earned their merits in many great movies, BUT they all have to star in a script that is just not believable whatsoever, because there are so many incredibly stupid and annoying plot turns that the whole potential of this being a tough and cool gangsta movie is thrown out the window.
Bummer. Not a terrible movie, but with some better writing and with more credible characters this COULD have been a cool crime movie, but now it is merely okay-ish...
Mojave (2015)
How did it all go so wrong?
You know those kind of movies that initially look so promising, but end up being a dud? THIS is such a movie, which I expected a lot from with such great actors like Oscar Isaac and Mark Wahlberg. I have never been much a fan of Garret Hedlund though, but there is more wrong with this movie...
The bad: I really dig Oscar Isaac as an actor. The man can act! BUT he messed up his performance this time around. He OVERdid it and he made his character look silly, while he tried to look menacing and insane. Garret Hedlund never impressed me and Mark Wahlberg unfortunately only has got a smaller role.
But why am I nitpicking about these acting performances? Because it matters. This is meant to be a SERIOUS thriller, but it looks like it's going through the motions of yet another average "trhiller", that does not thrill for one second.
It's a flop. And now I understand why. You have been warned...
Patriots Day (2016)
Could have been better...
Mark Wahlberg is good at straight forward action, but he is not capable of dramatic acting performances. Thankfully they didnt give him many dramatic scenes, but other unknown (and quite mediocre) actors did get those dramatic parts and herein lies part of the problem...
The bad: the supporting actors are (at best) average in their acting performances. And it is cringeworthy to watch these average actors try to create drama. Even the 2 leading terrorists arent very convincing nor where they menacing. On the contrary they looked like total nitwits. And another problem is that there are just TOO MANY characters written into this story, only further dilluting the drama. Such a pity. COULD have been better, with a better casting...
This movie is flip flopping between overly sentimental drama (performed by mediocre actors) and action packed chases and shootouts on the other end. This movie was created out of 2 separate scripts and it shows, because this movie doesnt flow well.
The drama doesnt gel well with the action parts.
And is it just me or did the police who tried to find these terrorists often look like total amateurs? Dont they know how to cordon off a street or a block? If I didnt know this was a true story I would have fired the writer for making these cops look like total amateurs, but I read on wikipedia that they actually behaved like this for real. Wow, what a mess up.
Not a word about the motives of these terrorists in this movie. Why did they do it? This movie left me behind with more questions than answers and with a baffled feeling of significant shortcomings of the police force.
Could have been better...
Alex in Wonderland (1970)
What joy to watch Donald Sutherland!
Best to let this movie come over you and dont think it over too much, because it is a free flowing script, but that is not it's best feature!
What makes this movie a true delight to watch is because of the young, vivacious and playful Donald Sutherland, who is giving a marvellous performance. It is HE who carries this movie.
A lot of praise has to go to director Paul Mazursky,(who plays a funny cameo as an obnoxious filmagent). I truly APPLAUD his wonderful direction, with beautiful photography and an abundance of creativity.
This movie has got such a vivacious, free and playful and human loving spirit, but it unfortunately does become a bit long in the tooth towards the end. Real pity, because this could have been a near perfect movie, especially with such delightful and funny appearances by Federico Fellini and Jeanne Monreau.
Mixed bag. Terrific first hour, but then looses steam and fails to keep my attention during the last half hour, which becomes gibbledigook out of wack AND long in tooth simultaneously.
Kiss the Future (2023)
Kiss the past would have been a better description...
Look at us being socially and politically conscious rock stars, way back in the nineties. Let's make a documentary about how great we were for playing a concert in Sarajevo when the war was finally over.
I am sorry, but this movie got under my skin the wrong way. First of all the Popmart tour was a disaster, with several concerts not even being sold out, which was a first for U2. It was the worst of the tours in the entire carreer of U2.
This trip to Sarajevo was the only really good thing of that entire tour. Being there must have been exhilirating for the people over there. And if I remember correctly a great short film had already been made about it many years ago...
So I dont really get the point of looking back now with U2 idolizing themselves for being politically correct way back then. I would have far more valued U2 bringing attention to CURRENT political turmoil in the world, but they are playing it safe and sound in Las Vegas these days for petes sake!
Before Dawn (2024)
Why?
Why make yet another below average war movie? Why? I started watching it anyway and quickly noticed this was a cheap copycat, an inferior wannabe...
The bad: what's a war movie without spectacular fighting scenes? What? Well, not much! This movie just fails to ever become truly gripping or thrilling.
Beware: this is more a slowburning portrayal of soldiers having to endure the trenches than it is a tough war movie. But even at the dramatic scenes this move fails full stop. The actors are below average and so are their acting performances.
It isnt a terrible B-movie, they tried to make the best of the mediocre actors and the lack of money for photography and special effects. But in the end this movie is just going through the motions of yet another below average boring "war" movie...
Longlegs (2024)
I expected to see Nicholas Cage in a leading role but unfortunately he only played a tiny supporting role
I am a big Nicholas Cage fan and therefore I want to see every new movie with Cage starring in it, unfortunately his role was only tiny (a couple of minutes), but still absolutely hilarious and creepy, but his tiny role wasnt enough to make me wanna recommend this movie...
The bad; it's not a terrible movie for sure, but somehow it didnt spook me out, it didnt thrill me, it didnt surprise me, what's left then?
Well not much, there are SO MANY average or below average horror movies out there that I dont need to see another one. I did anyway and I have forgotten about it the minute I stopped watching it....
MaXXXine (2024)
This story started out promising, but turned into one big silly mess towards the end
The good: we have got some solid acting performances by some really good actors, who do convince me with their credible performance of their characters UP TO A POINT WHEN the story becomes giblledigook silly...
The bad: Ti West directed AND wrote this story. HE is to blame for this ridiculous storyline that really ruined the entire movie. The story starts out alright and the way the eighties are depicted looks true to life. Well done! But in the end this movie turns into a dud.
Some good, but ultimately disappointing because of several ridiculous plot turns at the very end (last 30 minutes) of this movie. Bummer.
The Monuments Men (2014)
A bit too tame, way too sentimental and lacking spark and punch
George Clooney directing and it shows, because of his slowburning, laid back kind of style, which brings me to what's not to like about this failed attempt at making a proper war movie...
The bad: this "war" movie is definitely lacking action and thrill. It starts out promising but then gets bugged down by TOO MANY tedious, soft sentimental scenes underscored by annoyingly repetitive sentimental music (simply TOO MUCH).
BEWARE: NOT suited for those who are into fierce fighting war movies, but perfectly suited for family viewing, because there isnt any scene that is too shocking for any familymember to watch, young or old...
Any good? We have got a bunch of great actors starring together. What's not to like about that! And it has got a feel good spirit of caring for art.
I blame Clooney' s soft and sentimental direction. This movie COULD have been solid and funny and supsenseful, but it ended up being nothing more than a sentimental dud!
Fly Me to the Moon (2024)
NOT funny (they overdid it). NOT romantic (Scarlet Johansson looks like Hillary Clinton for petes sake).
NASA is going down the drain in debt and in failures lately, so let's make a promotional movie about the golden glory days of NASA. COULD have been a fun quirky movie, but it has some serious shortcomings...
The bad: comedy is quite personal, but I didnt laugh once. Why not? Because they over did it. The jokes were too much in my face. But perhaps others wont mind that at all..
More bad: this is supposedly a budding romance between. Channing Tatum and Scarlet Johansson as well, but the latter actress (honestly) looks like Hilarry Clinton and any thought of romance goes out the window with that kind of look! Way too old looking for a romance with Channing Tatum!
Aint the story any good? The story is woke. The story is predictable. The story lacks real spark and punch. No good.
Not a terrible movie, but one that is quite bland and rather tedious to watch. Dont expect any fireworks.
Arcadian (2024)
Question. What is a horror movie that is NOT horrifying?
The bad: NOT a Nicholas Cage picture. So beware, all you Cage fans (of which I am one), he is only starring in a small supporting role.
More bad: What is horror without horror? What is a thriller without a thrill? What's the point of watching this movie if it does not scare me, does not shock me, does not make me feel anxious in any way?
This movie has nothing going for it. What is does have is INCREDIBLY DARKLY LIT photography. It's SO darkly lit that I often could not see what was happening. This dark lit photography is often used to cover up the fact that there is NO MONEY available for decent looking sets.
This is a nothing burger, which FAILS to become thrilling for a second.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
Going through the motions of yet another average sequel. The action is lame, the jokes arent funny. It's boring to watch!
Needed there be a 4th sequel? Well, here it is anyway!
The bad: it's a rehash of everything we have seen before, but now directed by a certain someone who has only directed 4 videos before and it shows. This has all the earmarks of a cheap cash cow sequel.
This 4th sequel FAILS TO BECOME REALLY FUNNY. A smirk and a smile here and there was all I experienced.
The action is lame. NO thrill whatsoever. I really started to yawn during the "action" scenes.
This 4th sequel Eddie Murphy has become a dad who now wants to bond with his daughter (cop) who he hasnt seen for years. Together they fight the bad guys, but what they end up doing mostly is talk, talk and talk some more, which is getting quite BORING after a while.
All the earlier Beverly Hill Cop fans (me included) will be watching this sequel anyway, no matter how bad the reviews, but dont get your hopes up, this is nothing more but a boring cheap remake of a great original.
Better watch the BRILLIANT original "Beverly Hills Cop" (1984) instead if you havent yet seen it! (And if you already have, then watch it again, because it is a classic and BIG FUN!).
Cemitério (2024)
Dont for a second think this is a Mel Gibson picture, he only has got a small supporting role.
The only reason I started watching this movie was because I wanted to see a thriller/detective AND Mel Gibson was starring in it. Could this be worth a watch?
The bad: Mel Gibson only has got a small supporting role. We only get to see the guy a couple of minutes. Unfortunately the rest of the cast are B-movie actors, who simply can not act and it painfully shows. Not terrible, but way below par...
More bad: what's really annoying though is the fact that this story NEVER becomes thrilling or suspenseful for a second. I dont mind watching predictable B-movies, BUT they HAVE TO BE thrilling and this isnt. Not for a second! To be avoided!
The Company You Keep (2012)
A thoughtful, slowburning whodunnit with a bunch of terrific actors.
Robert Redford directing, producing and acting in this slowburning, intricate story about a bunch of youth war activists from the seventies, who are now in their old age and are still wanted by the fbi because one person died during one of their sixties peace actions against the war in vietnam. But till this very day it still is not clear who was responsible for the death of a bank clerk during this anti war protest action.
It's a cat and mouse game between Robert Redford and the fbi and Shia Labeouf as a nosey local journalist who is after a big scoop of catching these mysterious peace activists from the seventies who have been able to hide from the fbi for several decades.
The good: beware, this is a slowburning whodunnit, this is NOT an action packed thriller. But as a whodunnit story it is a rather well made one, with true to life characters, being performed by a bunch of terrific actors, whom the older generation will certainly know well (Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte, Richard Jenkins).
A story about caring for the world without war, a story about caring for ones family and the choices one has to make between living for your ideals or protecting ones own family.
Kinds of Kindness (2024)
Incomprehensible and unnerving, yet simultaneously intrigueing to watch, BUT I LOST INTEREST halfway through...
This director has divided movie going audiences like no other. If you never liked to watch out of wack arthouse movies and dont like watching anyting that doesnt make sense, then my advice would be to definitely NOT watch this movie, but...
The good: ...BUT if you are a fan of this director's earlier work, OFCOURSE you wanna watch this very movie, because you already know you will be in for something special with this genius director in control.
This movie fascinated me from the start. And the leading actor, (who usually only stars in supporting roles), is perfectly cast for this disturbed character and he steals the show in a role that is quite unnerving and intrigueing to watch.
Emma Stone's role was small and supporting in nature at the start, but halfway through she became the leading actress of this incomprehensible story which is surreal to the max and divided up in several story segments that makes it even more difficult to follow and understand. And therein lies my biggest complaint...
The bad: This story is SO incomprehensible (like any other story by this director), that I wont be bothering you with an attempt to clarify the plot, but I will end by saying that I LOST INTEREST half way through this movie BECAUSE of the incomprehensibility of this story, which lasts a whopping 2 and a half hours.
Way too long.
Way too disjointed.
Way too incomprehensible.
Certainly not a terrible picture, but probably only suited for a niche crowd of arthouse movie fans, who can appreciate this kind of surreal and unnerving storyline with it's disturbed characters.
A Family Affair (2024)
NOT funny. NOT romantic.
Wow. Sometimes I pity myself. What terrible endurance I had to go through to watch this with my girlfriend who was grumpy at the end having watched it as well....
The bad: let's get things straight! What's a romantic comedy, when it is A (NOT FUNNY), B (NOT ROMANTIC)? Why watch it? Has it got any other undisclosed perks or features? NOPE.
This is just yet another one of many Netflix formulaic movies that has ZERO originality, ZERO spark.
Perhaps best be watched when you want to dump your girl (or boy) friend because after having watched this you will be guaranteed in a grumpy, terrible mood. The perfect mood for when you want to break up!
A Quiet Place: Day One (2024)
What utter rubbish
A thriller needs to be thrilling. It is NOT. So what's the point of watching this movie? There is NONE. So dont watch it if your desire is to be thrilled.
Not any good then? It is not a terrible movie, but terribly boring it is. If you dont mind watching a below average disaster movie then go right ahead and watch it...
What's so annoying about this movie is that the leading characters lack charisma. Their is no chemistry or spark between them. They CAN"T act well.
And it is lit so incredibly dark, that most of the time one cant see very much. This is done more often in other cheaply made movies to hide the fact that there wasnt enough money to create thrilling looking sets.
What's even more annoying (for me personally) is the constant OVER use of a droning booming soundtrack AS IF the loud bass should constantly compensate for the lack of real thrill. As if to remind us THIS scene was extra scary, because the droning soundscore was extra loud as well.
What a BORE of a movie. If you wanna be thrilled, really thrilled then stay FAR AWAY of this flick!
Daddio (2023)
The flops made by Sean Penn just keep on coming...
The bad: having released one flop after the other the last decade, Sean Penn stars in yet another one...a quite boring one...
Why is it so boring? Because we ONLY get to see 2 faces in a cab for the ENTIRE movie chatting chitchat, which supposedly should excite me? Well, it didnt. There have been made some exquisite actor's movies in the past (Locke), with merely one or 2 actors talking in 1 small room, but this movie is just a failed attempt at copying such exquisite drama...
What an incredibly TEDIOUS picture. But it does confirm Sean Penn's solid reputation of making one flop after the other. HE DID IT AGAIN!
When will Sean Penn learn that it would have been better to simply retire from acting years ago? How many flops will Sean Penn have to make before he realises his career is over?
Suspect Zero (2004)
Great actors, but lame story without any real thrill
I am a Aaron Eckhart fan and I had missed out on this movie in the past, so I was all geared up for watching a solid thriller, but none of that...
The bad: Ben Kingsley is a terrific actor, but this time around he didnt convince me at all in his role as a mentally disturbed criminal. The opposite was true, his performance was rather laughable, because it just looked kinda silly and not believable at all.
More bad: Aaron Eckhart's performance is his usual, nothing out of the extraordinary, but this whole movie is seriously lacking in true suspense and thrill. It's just not there.
This movie has all the signs of a cheaply produced formulaic "thriller" that never becomes thrilling, never is original in any way. It's not terrible, but quite uneventful and tedious to watch.
