A fundraiser has been launched to repatriate the remains of the man stabbed to death in Co Kildare. It comes as friends of the family of father of three Ion Daghi (39), who was killed in Sallins, Co Kildare on Sunday, say his wife and children now “don’t know how to live on.”

Nearly E4,000 has been raised so far on the Gofundme page, set up to help the family repatriate Ion’s remains to his native Moldova. Friend Olga, who launched the fundraiser wrote: “Hi my name is Olga and I’m fundraising for the repatriation of Ion who was fatally stabbed on the night of 12.05.24

“He left behind 3 children, his wife and parents who don't know how to live on. It is a huge pain for the family. Now the family needs our help to be able to repatriation, please help as much as you can.” Mr Daghi, who is originally from Moldova, was stabbed once in the chest following a suspected row at a party at his home in Sallins Park in the early hours of the morning

Speaking to the Irish Mirror yesterday, a friend of Mr Daghi spoke of working with him in roofing for several years. He was a great worker and may he rest in peace. “He had a young family. He had twins. He was a quiet fella but the type of fella who would get the job done.

“He was a very straightforward kind of person.” On Monday night 23 year old Valeriu Melnic was charged with the murder of Mr Dagni. Mr Melnic, with an address in Calliaghstown Lower in Rathcoole, Co Dublin, appeared before a special sitting of Naas District Court at around 11pm. He is due to appear at Naas District Court again on Thursday. A link to the Gofundme page can be found by clicking here.
