Damien Duff has hailed the League of Ireland as "the greatest league in the world."

Speaking after Shelbourne opened their Premier Division campaign with a 1-1 draw away to Waterford, Duff said that he hasn't seen anything to compare to the league in all his years in football.

Duff initially describes the League as "the greatest in the World" tongue-in-cheek likely as a reference to the famous meme about the league, before doubling down on his view when the reporter interviewing him laughs and says "I wouldn't go that far."

"I would go that far," Duff said on LOI TV, "It means more to me than anything.

"I've travelled the World. I've played in quite a few leagues in the World. I've coached over in Scotland. This is the greatest League in the World.

"The sooner the better we get people jumping on board and on the bandwagon and actually helping the league, it will be even greater than it is now."
