This book is a classic tale of an old-school nursery rhyme that children just love. In this book, we get to see other places the spider goes to while adventuring through a house.

This all-new itsy bitsy spider has exciting encounters with a fan, a mouse, a rocking chair, a cat and a big maple tree. Finally, the itsy bitsy spider finds a lovely spot to rest and spin a new silky web. Children will enjoy time and again the delightful adventures of the energetic itsy bitsy spider. Fun sing aloud. Summary:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider is a wonderful expansion to the beloved nursery rhyme. The spider finds new adventures with a mouse, a cat and some squirrels and birds. Finally the spider spins a silky web to rest in with the warm sun.

Personal Reflection:
I love how this book takes a beloved childhood song and expanse on it. This book is a must add for all home libraries. The illustrations are amazing and fun filled.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Making spiders from food could be used for snack. The body of the spider is an oreo cookie and the legs are pretzel sticks.
2. Give children a piece of construction paper and have them draw a spider web. Have them use temper paint to place a hand print in the middle of the web and decorate the hand as the spider.

Summary of Book: The Itsy Bitsy Spider is a classic children’s tale and song about the day in the life of a spider. The reader follows along as the spider gets knocked down a lot after climbing up things. No matter how many times the spider gets knocked down though, it continues to try until finally she succeeds and makes a web inside a tree to rest in.

Personal Reaction to the Book: First and foremost, it does show children that no matter how many times in life you get knocked down while trying, to never give up; that eventually you will find success at anything you do with practice and effort. Many individuals have an inherent fear of spiders because of stereotyping and I think this spider provides a limelight in that not all spiders are deadly and harmful to people.

Extension Ideas:
1.During a science lesson, discover different types of spiders and learn about which are actually harmful if bitten by and which aren’t.
2.Have students write about a reflection piece in which they discuss a time when they’ve tried and failed over and over again only to succeed. ( )

This is one frommy daughter's personal library. She absolutely loves it. The book includes several verses to the song so it isn't just the same short rhym over and over. ( )

18 months - Finally someone has taken a somewhat boring short rhyme and make it so much more. We enjoyed the story and the illustrations. ( )

We made a special trip to Munro's (my local bookstore in Victoria, BC, is owned by Alice Munro's ex-husband, do you guys know that about Victoria, LibraryThing? It's beautiful in there) to get this book because Emmett was demanding an Itsy Bitsy Spider book to bring together his favourite song and his favourite medium. This one was cute and the extended verses, which I am usually doubtful of, gave us further insight into the spider's life and times, and I liked it on the whole for its spider's eye perspective but then we left it on the bus and now it's gone:( But my kid has lots of other books and a roof over his head, don't cry for us! The Itsy Bitsy Spider puts into book form the classic children's song of the same name; however, it features far more verses that we typically sing with children. Children will gravitate towards this book because of the familiarity of the beginning and then will get sucked in seeing where the rest of it goes. The rhyming structure is always appealing to young children, as well as the various antics of the eponymous spider. The illustrations are delicate and delightful, with an interesting shiny glaze (I wish the process were described in the book's ancillary materials so I could better articulate it) overlaying parts of the illustrations. This book is great to share with preschoolers especially, although younger elementary school-aged children and those toddlers with longer attention spans may also enjoy it as well. ( )

Summary: This is a well-known book and nursery rhyme among parents and their kids. It's about a little spider who tries to climb a waterspout, a wall, a pail, a rocking chair, and a tree. Every time the spider tries to climb something she gets knocked down. The spider never gives up, though. She finally goes to the tree and nothing knocks her down. When she made it to the top she could finally spin her web.

Personal Reaction: I like this story because it's about determination and not giving up. It also makes me think of the nursery rhyme/song I learned as a kid. My son loves to sing it with me and do the hand gestures that go along with the song.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1) Take pipe cleaners, cotton balls, googly eyes, glue, etc. and make fake spiders that can hang up on webs around the house or classroom.
2) I could bring information to class about how spiders make webs and use that information to make soap the same way spiders make their silk.

This well known song is incorporated into this book with different illustrations to go along with it. It is good for really young children because singing songs to them really grasps their attention. After reading this book about three times to my two year olds at work, they all sing it with me as I read it. ( )

Summary:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider is about a little spider that tries and tries to climb up the waterspout, the kitchen wall, the yellow pail, the rocking chair, and the maple tree. Every time she tries climbing something knocks her down to the bottom, but she never gives up. She keeps getting back up and trying again. Finally, she makes it up the maple tree with nothing to stop her and she spins her web. She then gets to rest in the sun.

Personal Reaction:
This is and has always been one of my favorite nursery rhyme books. It is a really cute story and I think it;s a good way to show kids that spiders don't have to be scary. Also, it's a good book to show that no matter how many times you get knocked down, you just need to get right back up and keep trying.

Classroom Extensions:
1. You could make itsy bitsy spiders with pipe cleaners and different things and hang them outside the classroom.
2. You could talk about never giving up and always getting back up to try again.

This story is almost just like the song most of us all learned in preschool. Except instead of just climbing the water spout the spider climbs many other obstacles. The spider in this story climbs a chair, a waterspout, a maple tree, etc. The only problem the spider had was that every time she would get to the top, she would fall back down and have to start over. The spider never gave up though. Finally on her last obstacle (the maple tree) she reached the top and made a web. So after never giving up she finally reached her goal. I really enjoy this book each time I read it. It takes me back to childhood when I learned the song. This story is good for children by teaching them perseverance and to never give up on your dream just like the spider never gave up on building her dream (the web). In a classroom I would teach the song to students and we could all sing together, we could also make little spiders out of pipe cleaners and write something each child doesn't want to give up on, on each leg. Summary:
A story based off of years and years of rebelling. The little spider faces many obstacles in their daily activities but, never gives up on what they are trying to do.

Personal reaction:
I enjoyed this spin off of the itsy bitsy spider. It made me remember singing it with my mom when I was much younger.

Class extensions:
Place small cut out spiders on objects in the room the match the objects the spider is trying to climb in the story. When you get to a part point out the spider for the kids to see.

Do the itsy bitsy spider hand motions with the children. ( )

This book is just like the song, " The Itsy Bitsy Spider" that we all learned as toddlers. The only change is there are more items that the spider crawls up such as a rocking chair! This familiar rhyming song book interests and engages children no matter what the age.

I would have this book in my classroom because it teachers about spiders where spiders might be, teachers rhyming and repetition, and may help children think of other things the spider may crawl up and fall off of. I think this book is appropriate for children ages 2-5.

Summary: This is a tale about a little spider who climbs different obstacles. Every time she gets close to the top of whatever she is climbing (waterspout, kitchen wall, yellow pail, rocking chair, and finally a maple tree) something goes wrong and she falls back down. The little spider never gives up and eventually she reaches her goal and builds her web in the maple tree.

Personal Reaction: I love this book, but I've known the song forever. I learned the song in preschool and it just stuck. This is a good story about perseverance, and never giving up on reaching your goals. Love the guts, and determination of this little spider.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. Can be used as a teaching tool, about never giving up and determination.
2. Sing the song and do the motions together as a class.
3. make their own spider webs out of yarn and spiders from pom pom balls and hang them around the classroom.
  ElizabethNagel | Sep 18, 2013 |
summarize:
the spider is busy climbing up alot of objects, and she keeps falling off of them, but she is persistant and by the end she gets her stride and climbs all the way up the tree and makes her web in the sun.

personal reaction:
its a great song you sing to preschool children.

classroom extension:
1. sing the song with homemade instruments
2. make webs and put them up around the classroom ( )

The Itsy Bitsy Spider as told by Iza Trapani
Summary:
The book illustrates a spider that does different things throughout the day such as climbing up the water spout, kitchen wall, yellow pail. Rocking chair, and the maple tree. But the spider always falls and does not make it all the way because something wrong will happen every time so the spider makes an attempt to try again and it ends with the spider finally reaching to the top of the tree completing the web and resting under the sun.

Personal Reaction:
I really liked the pictures that were portrayed well and the sequence of the story from using the words form the familiar common children's song.

Classroom Extension :
1. The teacher can have the children sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider with doing the hand actions together.
2. The students could draw and write about which event was their most favorite and why they picked that certain one.
  blossomfairy | Feb 13, 2013 |
Summary: It's about a spider trying to climb up a waterspout, the kitchen wall, the yellow pail, the rocking chair, the maple tree, and then finally the spider climbed up a tree. When he climbed up the tree he did it without a stop, and then made a web and relaxed in the sun.

Personal reaction: My first reaction was that I use to sing this song all the time. I thought it was quite interesting because in the this story there was more to the itsy bitsy spider. I only learned the first part of the song, and it is a very cool song to learn when you are a kid because you can add motions to it.

Classroom Extension: You can use this nursery rhyme to get kids to have a brain break and stand up and sing and dance. You can use it to introduce are and the kids can make their own spider.

Summary:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider begins climbing to find a place for her web. Through many setbacks and adversities The Itsy Bitsy Spider continues to climb and climb until she finally reaches the spot where she wants to put her web. After spinning her web she relaxes in the sun.

Personal Reaction:
I love this book and have since I was a child. I bright colors, the arrangement of the pictures, and large print make this a book that is easy for young readers to follow along. This is a great story that has been around for many years and is adored by many to this day.

Teaching Extension:
1.) A lesson could be developed from this book about identification of insects, reptile, birds, and animals.
2.) This book could also serve as a teaching tool to show children that with hard work and determination even the greatest of feats can be accomplished.
