"Officers vividly remember being blinded, having their ears ring, and the intense fear that they were about to experience extreme pain or even death."

Here's what happened when another rioter was successful in setting off a firecracker inside the tunnel:

On Jan. 6, 2021, the day a violent mob breached the U.S. Capitol in support of then-President Donald Trump, executives at Fox Corp vetoed Trump's attempt to appear on the network's air, according to court documents filed Thursday.

The documents allege that the former president dialed into on-air personality Lou Dobbs' show the afternoon of Jan. 6, but that executives shut down Trump's efforts to appear on air.

The career of that lying piece of shit, Senator Charles "Chuck" Schumer, and those others who, with him, conspired to create an elaborate set of self-serving lies around the events of Jan. 6th at the Washington, D.C. Capitol, is about to go up in smoke as extensive videotape evidence--thousands of hours over days and weeks, before, during and after Jan. 6th, 2021--are revealing an utterly different reality from that fabricated and trafficked by most mainstream U.S. mass-media.

There is now no way that Schumer can deny, hide from or derail the train-wreck that is about to undo his miserable and deceit-filled career in government. He must be frantic--for he now asserts that the very survival of the U.S. as a free democratic republic depends on?--- you guessed it: the suppression of any further revelations springing from this capitol hill surveillance archive.

This same scandal is going to equally ruin the wholly unmerited good reputations of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and all those who for so long worked closely with her: Steny Hoyer, John D. Podesta Jr., Bill and Hillary Clinton, and much of the Obama White House's Chicago-sourced team.

A slimier bunch of arrogant scumbags you could not hope to meet. A bunch of supposedly good-government servants who've been in fact some of this nation's lowest form of Washington swamp creatures' at last coming in for long overdue treatment by the Olympian hand of Nemesis, you could hardly imagine.

What's coming is going to make Nixon's Watergate scandal look puny by contrast.

Mike Pence: history will hold Donald Trump accountable over Capitol attack (Guardian)

On Saturday at the Gridiron dinner in Washington, Pence told journalists and their guests: “President Trump was wrong. I had no right to overturn the election, and his reckless words endangered my family and everyone at the Capitol that day, and I know that history will hold Donald Trump accountable”... “What happened that day was a disgrace,” Pence told the Gridiron audience. “And it mocks decency to portray it any other way. For as long as I live, I will never, ever diminish the injuries sustained, the lives lost, or the heroism of law enforcement on that tragic day”...

Important legal development; permits Jack Smith to charge Trump on this theory; may well go now to the Supreme Court.

A trump appointed judge worked very hard to apply the law incorrectly and tossed two J6 obstruction charges. Had this stood, it could’ve resulted in hundreds of cases being thrown out. The appeals court has determined that he was in fact wrong.

I imagine the majority of those attacking the Capitol that day were pretty ignorant about what was happening. More than less drawn on by their own inertia by those who were leading them by their noses. At least if they entered the building I don't mind them being charged with shit. If they attacked/fought with cops, damaged or stole anything they should be charged with more. All of those who entered also should have a part of paying for damage to the building. Generally speaking though I don't see good reason to throw lots of jail time at someone just because he/she was stupid that day. If they managed to avoid harming or damaging---were just in and out like a lot of them were then a few days/couple/three weeks in the local lockup or picking up garbage with pointy sticks along roadways for a couple/three weeks is fine with me. They could use the embarrassment but IMO that'd be about enough.

My main issue is with Trump and the people who organized and incited a coup to happen. None of those people are really being held to account for anything.....it's just the poor slobs they incited that are paying. It doesn't seem all that right. As well the groups like the Proud Boys, Oathkeepers and other 3 %'er organizations who actually wanted to bring about a coup should pay too and it looks like that's going to happen. Those who brought weapons and fought with violence also no problem for me with them doing prison time.

JUST IN: Oath Keepers Leader Stewart Rhodes Sentenced to 18 Years in Prison for Seditious Conspiracy, Longest Jan. 6 Sentence to Date

During the sentencing hearing, Rhodes reiterated false claims about the 2020 election while casting himself and other January 6th rioters as “political prisoners.” His claim to martyrdom was rejected by Mehta, who called him an “ongoing threat and peril to our democracy and the fabric of this country” before handing the sentence down.

I guess this story more aptly belongs in this thread.
From Heather Cox Richardson’s newsletter:

Owen Shroyer, the sidekick of conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, is indeed cooperating with prosecutors, as his request on Tuesday to change his plea indicated. Shroyer was at the January 5 meeting in the “war room” in the Willard Hotel and was on an encrypted chat with several of the key players in the attempt to steal the election for Trump. The plea deal says that he will “allow law enforcement agents to review any social media accounts…for statements and postings in and around January 6, 2021, prior to sentencing.”

And the news outlet confirming this:

James Carville Calls Fox News Audience ‘A Giant Monster That You Have to Feed Every Night’

“They were desperate to have an answer,” Carville responded. “It was bad optics of people beating up policemen and breaking into windows, all right? And that audience desperately needed another explanation. If they were going to keep their audience, they had to supply it. The Antifa thing fell apart, so Mr. Epps was the remainder man. And that audience, they just can’t let it go. They have to—it’s a giant monster that you have to feed every night. And that’s what happened, of course, with the Dominion. It’s what’s going to happen with Smartmatic, and it’s probably going to happen with Mr. Epps. That was an expensive diet they were on feeding that monster.”

Michigan attorney general charges fake Trump electors over alleged 2020 election crimes

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/18/fake-trump-electors-charged-with-michigan-electi...

Michigan's attorney general on Tuesday criminally charged 16 so-called "fake electors" for former President Donald Trump, accusing them of a fraudulent effort to reverse President Joe Biden's victory in the state's 2020 election.

The 16 people each face eight charges, including conspiracy, election law forgery, and uttering and publishing, state Attorney General Dana Nessel said in a video announcement.

As well Fed prosecutor Jack Smith has pretty much told Trump he's about to be indicted again. His first case in Florida is for the classified documents he refused to return.....he is liable for the same (if Judge Aileen Cannon turns it into a shitshow) if that same case is taken to New Jersey because Donald with the help of Mr. Nauta was often found to be flying at least some of the documents to his Bedminster golf course in that state. He might think that Cannon can save him somehow but I'm pretty sure he's wrong.

This new indictment is for his attempts to subvert the 2020 election---all of the shit that led up to and including the Jan. 6 insurrection. In fact it will be interesting to see if he is charged with insurrection. From what I understand Mark Meadows has completely flipped and is going to be a key witness. Rudy Giuliani is at least somewhere down the same road.....the issue with Rudy is he is very slippery but he is also up to his neck in the same crimes......so being factual and straightforward is in Rudy's best interest if he doesn't want to spend the rest of his sorry life behind bars. There are certainly others that have flipped as well and the reason Donald is trying to delay is winning back the presidency is the only possible way he's going to save his hide. This will likely be a D.C. trial.

There also is the Georgia case which is not far behind. He soon may simultaneously be under 4 different criminal indictments. Just one of the 37 charges from the documents case could put him in prison for the rest of his life. This new 2020 election/Jan. 6 indictment could top 100 charges.

How this is going to go down with MAGA voters......I don't think it's going to go down very well. But the law is the law. He better not miss out on any golfing outing he can for now because those outings are likely going to disappear......he's better there than shooting his mouth off at rallies or to newspeople because he quite often incriminates himself even more.

Onto Joe Biden. Has he broken the law? Well let's be specific. How? What? The Republican house tells its voters he has but they're not specific how or what. Their whistleblower Gal Luft is not very credible. There's nothing backing him up at least so far and not likely. Has Hunter Biden broken the law?---drugs, tax evasion, guns---more minor felonies/misdemeanors. These are in no way comparable to trying to steal an election or stealing classified documents. All their bullshitting on Hunter comes pretty much down to misdirection. In what he has done he should pay the appropriate penalties that anyone else would. As far as tax evasion the super wealthy are the masters at getting away with that but that's a common thing that I would think these days most people don't do any time for. The whataboutism of conservatives is all bullshit.
