Choosing the right giving vehicle, whether a DAF, LLC, private foundation, or some other tool, can be challenging. At Arabella, we ground our clients in three primary design principles: 1) Form should always follow function. 2) Aim to create the minimum viable structure. 3) Consider whether it’s important to you to preserve flexibility. For more considerations that can guide you in determining how best to use the various vehicles at your disposal, see this recent piece by Jessica Robinson Love and Drew Rabe: https://ow.ly/3ULV50RJpCo

Reimbursement-based government grants are often difficult for nonprofits to access, because they must foot the bill for the work upfront. In the absence of additional philanthropic support, there are several steps nonprofits can take to reduce the burden of entering a reimbursement-based contract, such as partnering with established groups, exploring accounts receivable financing and factoring, or banking with your lender. These steps will help, but as nonprofits know, there are many other considerations to keep in mind when applying for new grants. Our Kiwi Partners division specializes in helping nonprofits maximize their impact while minimizing administrative burden. Today marks two years since the #Dobbs decision overturned Roe v. Wade, and advocates are still pushing to protect our rights. The battle has shifted to a new frontier: #contraception. From the Supreme Court to both houses of Congress to state legislatures across the country, the right to access #birthcontrol, including hormonal pills, IUDs, and even condoms, is under threat. Learn about the latest developments and steps funders can take in our latest blog from Taylor O'Brien: https://lnkd.in/euqrz3BW

Our recent partnership with Gifts for Good® showcased the power of the B Lab B Corp network. Our team was delighted to find a way to live our values of strengthening communities even through a process like our year-end staff gift. Check out the case study below to learn how your organization can do something similar.
As National Foster Care Month comes to a close, we're proud to share how Arabella Advisors, a fellow B Corp, made a significant impact through their holiday gifting last year to children entering the foster care system. By partnering with us at Gifts for Good, they provided 23 backpacks, 38 blankets, 32 books, 94 dental kits, and 32 toiletry kits to children in foster care — all made possible by our amazing Impact Partner, Comfort Cases, Inc.. This collaboration not only spread joy but also supported sustainable and meaningful giving. 🌟 Read our full case study to learn more about this inspiring corporate gift project: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gU9g2EsY #FosterCareMonth #CorporateGifting #BCorp #SocialImpact #Sustainability #GiftsForGood #ArabellaAdvisors

Folks throughout Arabella’s communities—both within our walls and among our partners—are celebrating #Juneteenth today. Juneteenth is the commemoration of the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans in Texas. Originating with the first celebration in Galveston in 1865, Juneteenth became a federal holiday on June 17, 2021 with the signing of the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act. For many Black Americans whose roots extend throughout the diaspora, Juneteenth serves as a day of remembrance to honor the legacies of those past as well as the long (and ongoing) journey toward liberation. Today, Arabella is urging our staff to deepen their learning about this holiday and the many nuances that surround it. If you’re so inclined to continue exploring the roots of Juneteenth and its rich history, feel free to check out these resources (courtesy of Clarissa Harris, Arabella’s director of equity and belonging): Juneteenth Reading List | National Museum of African American History and Culture: https://lnkd.in/g2zs285A Juneteenth Digital Toolkit | National Museum of African American History and Culture: https://lnkd.in/e8ecCSrz “Our Father Taught Us To Love Ourself": Remembering The Man Who Brought Juneteenth To San Diego: https://lnkd.in/e-aMB7tP What Juneteenth Means on a President’s Plantation | by Crystal A. deGregory, PhD | Crystal deGregory Ph.D. | Medium: https://lnkd.in/eHVukPGu A beginner’s guide to celebrating Juneteenth | PBS News: https://lnkd.in/gpZmcNFb The Celebration of Juneteenth in Ralph Ellison’s “Juneteenth” | The New Yorker: https://lnkd.in/ePBktSp8

While new legislation has provided a windfall of government funding for nonprofits, the reimbursement-based structure of these awards presents significant challenges for nonprofits. These challenges are particularly acute for groups with smaller operating budgets and limited cash on hand. Many of these groups are led by people of color and are the most proximate to community needs and solutions. This leads to an unacceptable equity and access issue, restricting many BIPOC-led and -serving groups from accessing this funding and diminishing the potential impact of these government programs. Learn more about how you, as a donor or nonprofit, can address these challenges and take advantage of reimbursement-based grants in our latest blog by Tivoni Devor and Ryan Ulbrich.
