Congrats to Arkansas APEX Accelerator client, Nellie Burnett, owner of Burnett & Son Janitorial & Law Services for receiving an award from the 1899 Project.
Nellie Burnett, 75 years old and owner of Burnett & Son Janitorial & Lawn Services, has been honored with a $2000 award from The 1899 Project. This recognition is a testament to her remarkable perseverance and unwavering determination, marking her 42 years of dedicated service to the Pine Bluff community. What is the 1899 Project? The 1899 Project, a transformative movement, draws inspiration from the work of sociologist and civil rights activist W.E.B. Du Bois. His 1899 study highlighted Pine Bluff as having the fourth highest rate of Black wealth in the United States at the turn of the 20th century. Building upon this historic legacy, the 1899 Project aims to create a thriving entrepreneurship ecosystem for Black-owned businesses in Pine Bluff. The project also seeks to shift the narrative from "what’s wrong with Pine Bluff" to "what’s strong about Pine Bluff." The 1899 Project – Let’s Reimagine, Rebuild, and Reinvent Pine Bluff!
