Better access to care, closer to home. Levine Cancer Institute Pineville is expanding its radiation services by adding a second linear accelerator. It’s a machine that uses highly focused beams of radiation to target and treat tumors. “The radiation oncology department at the Levine Cancer Institute Pineville is one of the busiest radiation sites in the state, so adding a second linear accelerator marks an exciting and transformative milestone in our ability to care for our patients,” says Dr. Christopher Corso, Medical Director of Levine Cancer Institute Pineville Radiation Oncology. “With this new addition, we’re poised to treat more patients closer to where they live, while still providing the clinical excellence that we always have. I couldn’t be more excited about this new addition.” Learn more about Radiation Therapy at Levine Cancer: https://bit.ly/3SiZdev

Shortly before boarding his connecting flight at Charlotte Douglas Airport, Ken Jeffries had a cardiac episode. Claire Cerbie, a former Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute nurse was boarding the same flight when she noticed Ken exhibiting signs of a heart attack. Her quick thinking and immediate action, including performing CPR and using an AED, brought Ken back to a stable condition as they waited for additional medical support to arrive. Ken was then treated at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center by interventional cardiologist Dr. William Downey. "Most people who this happens to die,” Downey said. “This is sudden death. Claire's CPR kept him alive.” “A ‘thank you’ is not enough. I am so appreciative and indebted to you,” Ken said as he spoke to Claire over a zoom. Since receiving cardiac care from the team at Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute, Ken has been able to recover and is a strong advocate for CPR and AED availability and training. Ken’s heartfelt gratitude for Claire is a powerful reminder of the impact of quick action and CPR training. Read more about Ken’s story here: https://ietv.co/3S4QEUC
