This week, the APS Foundation team participated in the building of a new playground at Montview Elementary School. This kid-designed project was in partnership with KABOOM! and the Denver Broncos Football Club Foundation. Thanks to these community partners and the support from many additional volunteers, over 400 elementary school students now have a beautiful space to play! In the past 2 years alone, this incredible group of volunteers has fundraised to provide over $13,000 total in scholarship funds to 15 graduating Aurora Public Schools students! Aurora Public Schools Night with the Colorado Rockies was a success! Nearly 550 APS community members came out to watch the Rockies defeat the Phillies this past Friday evening. Vassar Elementary, Murphy Creek P-8 and Vanguard Classical School did a stellar job singing the National Anthem during the pre-game ceremony and the APS Foundation got to honor 5 phenomenal student volunteers from William Smith High School Rudder Club on the field. Superintendent Michael Giles Jr. also came out to cheer on the Rockies and support APS students! Go Rockies! 💜⚾️

Last week, APS Foundation board members, staff, and donors attended 7 high school convocation ceremonies to present graduating Aurora Public Schools students with their scholarship awards. This past weekend, 14 dedicated runners hit the pavement to participate in the Denver Colfax Marathon for the APS Foundation! These runners also fundraised to benefit Aurora Public Schools students and educators. One runner (pictured with his two children), who has fundraised nearly $800 in the past two years, shared this about why he chooses to run for APS and the APS Foundation, "I want to support my wife (a teacher at Dartmouth Elementary), her students, and all of her colleagues. Teachers do a lot out of their own pocket so I’m just trying to do a small bit to help. I also want to teach our kids to do whatever they can to help others whenever they can. This week, our Partner Spotlight goes out to Schomp Subaru and the Schomp Automotive Group family! Schomp's generous support through their 2020 Share The Love Event provided funding for over 1,400 Aurora Public Schools 5th Graders to participate in the Young AmeriTowne financial literacy program. During Young AmeriTowne, students immersed themselves in a full-day career experience; gaining valuable insights into managing personal finances and actively participating in a free enterprise economy. The opportunity allowed students to see the direct impact that their actions and decisions have on themselves, their businesses and their overall community! As one Dalton Elementary Teacher shared about the experience, “Students learn so much real-world, applicable knowledge that will help them in years to come. They learn to collaborate, manage money and time, and they see how each person is an important component of the economy." Aurora Gateway Rotary Club Colorado will be hosting their Annual Scholarship Scramble on July 11th and you can join the fun! The tournament will be a Best Ball, Shotgun, Scramble format; and breakfast and lunch are included for all golfers and sponsors. There will also be exciting prizes for game winners!
