We are committed to improving economic mobility and reducing systemic inequities for children and families in America.

About us

Ballmer Group is committed to improving economic mobility for children and families in the United States, funding leaders and organizations that have demonstrated the ability to reshape opportunity and reduce systemic inequities. We focus on multiple impact areas and systems that can impact economic mobility - such as early learning, K-12 education, college and career pathways, housing, health, and criminal justice - and we support leaders and organizations that focus on undoing systemic racism and the barriers it has created. Ballmer Group is both a national and regional funder – we have a presence and invest deeply in southeast Michigan, Washington state, and Los Angeles County. Ballmer Group was co-founded by philanthropist Connie Ballmer and her husband Steve Ballmer, former CEO of Microsoft, founder of USAFacts, and chairman of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Get to know our grantee: The National Black Child Development Institute fights for the creation of an equitable and just future for Black children and families. It does this by mobilizing communities and igniting movements to foster a sense of community and belonging where Black children feel supported and valued. NBCDI delivers culturally relevant resources to Black communities centered around their Eight Essential Outcomes. Our grant supports NBCDI as it increases the impact of its Family Empowerment Program, which equips Black families with the knowledge, tools, and skills needed to foster their children's learning and development. https://lnkd.in/epqHKgJU

🌟 Proud to share that The Seattle Times has featured the remarkable journey of Washington in reducing unaccompanied youth and young adult (YYA) homelessness by 40%! This in-depth article highlights findings from our landscape scan co-authored with the Office of Homeless Youth (OHY), housed in the Washington State Department of Commerce. This milestone is the result of a complex, multi-sector effort involving dozens of organizations and countless individuals over more than a decade. Central to this achievement has been the commitment to centering the voices of young people with lived experiences, which has proven crucial in addressing these systemic issues. Philanthropic partners have been key, partnering with the public sector to fund innovative and effective solutions. However, sustaining this progress and driving further reductions will require continued and increased investment. We encourage you to read the full article to understand the depth of this effort and the collaborative spirit that made it possible. Read more here:
