Earlier this week, our #Bechtel team at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) in New Mexico wrapped up construction on its new, state-of-the-art Safety Significant Confinement Ventilation (SSCVS) facility, which is key in supporting WIPP's operational infrastructure. Congratulations to our team and partners at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)! 👏 How it works: Once fully online, the SSCVS will increase the quality of airflow to the underground repository at WIPP, as well as allow air to safely exit, further enabling the plant to deliver on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s national security and environmental cleanup missions. Celebrating 25 years of operations this year, WIPP is a first-of-a-kind facility designed to safely and permanently dispose of radioactive transuranic defense waste. It's also the United States' only deep geological repository. #Bechtel played a significant role in WIPP's initial design and development back in the 1970s, and today, we’re honored to help carry out this important mission. In recognition of Juneteenth, #Bechtel's B-BOLD Business Resource Group (BRG) hosted an event celebrating resilience, freedom, and the historical significance of this day. During the event, colleagues were encouraged to consider the legacies we leave behind and the doors we open for future generations—reminding our team to reflect on Bechtel's vision, values, and commitments.   Bechtel's Chief Diversity Officer, Lisa Armstrong, shared: "It's crucial to celebrate days like Juneteenth and host these events to build cultural awareness so that we can learn about one another. We were at #GigaUSA this week, delving into the world of batteries and sharing our insights on engineering, procurement, and construction within the sector. 👋 Hello, Adelaide, Australia!   We are excited to share that we've expanded our Australian footprint with the opening of a new Bechtel office in Adelaide this week! This new office in South Australia is a testament to Bechtel's continued commitment to supporting the state's ongoing mining, defense, and infrastructure developments. Australia State Minister for Trade & Investment, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs, Joe Szakacs, joined industry leaders to officially open the new office. This year, Bechtel celebrates 70 years in Australia.🎉 Since 1954, Bechtel has helped our customers across the region deliver inspiring projects, including pipelines and oil projects in the '50s and '60s, and the expansion of Australia's copper, iron, and aluminum commodities in the '70s, which includes South Australia's Olympic Dam mining projects. And more recently, Bechtel's portfolio has continued to broaden, particularly with the rise of LNG and rail and airport infrastructure projects across the country. We have maintained long-term offices in Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth to support these projects and others across the country – and now, we are excited to add Adelaide to the list. Today our Bechtel Corporation team, together with our partners at TerraPower, celebrated a major milestone with the groundbreaking of the Natrium Demonstration Project in Kemmerer, Wyoming. The Natrium reactor, developed by our partners at TerraPower, leverages cutting-edge sodium technology that will help revolutionize nuclear plant construction. TerraPower extended their visionary approach to the building of the plant itself. Their involvement of #Bechtel from the very beginning means the entire project lifecycle, including construction, has been optimized at every stage. #Bechtel President and COO, Craig Albert, reflects on today's milestone: "The Natrium reactor's innovative design will launch a new approach to nuclear plant construction that is designed to be safer, cleaner, faster to construct, and more efficient than many energy source alternatives. Thirty years ago, our industry decided that the only acceptable number of people to lose or hurt on a construction site is zero. We worked tirelessly on a rigorous campaign to prevent physical accidents, investing money, time, and expertise to ensure that everyone who shows up for a day's work returns home safe and sound.   There's no reason we can't do the same for mental health as we have with physical safety. Lives are at stake, and it's past time we give this problem the attention and focus it demands.   The painful truth is that among job occupations in the United States, the construction industry has one of the highest rates of suicide—twice as high as the general population. That's a heartbreaking statistic that we can change. But we also know that we can't do it alone.   Our Bechtel team is mounting a "big tent" effort, calling on our peers and partners across the industry to join us in the search for solutions. Recently, we announced a new, multi-year partnership backed by a $7-million pledge to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, the leading experts in suicide prevention, to support this effort.   I'm confident that together, we can find effective ways to support the overall well-being of the men and women who do the essential work of building our world. Congratulations to our team at the Hanford Vit Plant on successfully completing the first test glass pour from Melter 2! This glass was safely poured into a stainless-steel container that's specially designed to hold vitrified radioactive and chemical waste.   Earlier this year, the #Bechtel team at the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) heated Melter 2 – the second of two of the world's largest nuclear waste melters – to 2,100 degrees Fahrenheit. From there, we added 30,000 pounds of frit to form molten test glass, which will eventually hold treated radioactive waste for safe storage. 🔥🧪   This achievement marks an important step as WTP prepares to transform legacy radioactive and chemical tank waste that dates back to World War II and the Cold War, into a vitrified glass form for safe and secure disposal.   Thank you to the entire #Bechtel team for making this milestone and this historic project, possible! #ToTheExtraordinary

Last week, our Bechtel team co-sponsored a Congressional Nuclear Security Working Group (CNSWG) event on Capitol Hill to engage leaders in an important, timely discussion around nuclear security modernization. The event brought together key decision-makers, including #CNSWG co-chairs Rep. Chuck Fleischmann and Rep. Bill Foster, along with leaders from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and national laboratories.   For generations, #Bechtel has been entrusted by the U.S. government and governments around the world to design, build, and manage projects and sites that contribute to a safer, more secure world. Bechtel is a demonstrated partner delivering management and operations, engineering, procurement, and construction services to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for over 40 years.   Currently, we provide both the #DOE EM and #NNSA with management and operations support to some of their most critical facilities, including Pantex Plant, Y-12 National Security Complex, Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP), and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. ☀️⚡We are excited to share that the Bechtel Corporation-built Cutlass Solar 2 facility in Fort Bend, Texas is now generating energy at full capacity—a milestone we achieved ahead of schedule. Congrats, team!👏 Together with our customer Sabanci Holding, we are sending enough clean, renewable energy to the grid to power 40,000 Texas homes—saving an estimated 600,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year.🤝   Scott Austin, #Bechtel’s General Manager of Renewables and Clean Power, shares: "We're delighted to get Cutlass Solar 2 to maximum capacity to provide more renewable power for Texans, support America's energy transition, and help achieve the Lone Star State's goal to become the nation's largest producer of solar power."   Next up: we'll begin construction on Sabanci Holding's new Oriana Solar facility in Victoria County, TX, which is expected to power more than 34,000 homes with clean energy.
