City of El Paso Economic & International Development Department reposted this
Nonprofit Founder, Innovation Community Builder, Digital Skilling Strategist, Transformational Leader, Impact Storyteller
Fab Lab El Paso is pleased to partner with City of El Paso Economic & International Development Department on technical training programs in computing and engineering to upskill incumbent workers and exiting soldiers to future proof their work as well as with opportunity youth and transitioning populations to help reskill them onto a path towards family-sustaining wage. Over the past ten years, we have forged partnerships with industry leaders like Microsoft, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Autodesk to help close the skills, employability, diversity, and equity gaps for cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, software development, space sciences, and advanced manufacturing. We are excited to continue our work to train and serve the most vulnerable members of our community for whom 2-year and 4-year colleges are not an immediate reality. We deeply thank Mayor & Council, City of El Paso for your unanimous support and advocacy for community-facing and equity and empathy-driven digital skilling programs. Thank you also to the sheroes of #EconomicDevelopment Karina Brasgalla, Mirella Tamayo, Klarissa Mijares, and Briana Silvas. We will continue to connect early STEM engagement, especially young women of color and economically disadvantaged youth, with certification-based innovation skills training to strengthen and diversify the tech talent pipeline for our region. We recently hosted two events that further advance the Recompete Initiative aimed at driving workforce empowerment for 5,000 individuals, promoting equity, and fueling economic growth. Discussions emphasized the necessity for specialized training in advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, intelligent infrastructure, and healthcare. The City of El Paso, alongside partners like Workforce Solutions Borderplex, The University of Texas at El Paso, Fab Lab El Paso, and Microsoft, created innovative curriculums to prepare our workforce for future challenges. Beyond education, the initiative includes job placement, business development, and crucial support services such as childcare and transportation. It also focuses on enhancing mid-level management, technical writing, and business skills, particularly for government contracting. Local contract retention and support for small businesses through procurement assistance and technical training are pivotal, aligning with our dedication to sustainable community growth. We invite the business community to engage and contribute to this transformative initiative. Contact the Economic & International Development Department to join forces and shape our economic future together. #RecompeteInitiative #EconomicDevelopment #WorkforceInnovation #EconomicDevelopment #CommunityEngagement #GetInvolved #WorkforceDevelopment
