We connect people to plants in enriching ways. Locations: Denver, Chatfield Farms in Littleton and Mt. Goliath.

About us

Green inside and out, Denver Botanic Gardens is considered one of the top botanical gardens in the United States and a pioneer in water conservation. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the Gardens’ living collections encompass specimens from the tropics to the tundra, showcasing a plant palette chosen to thrive in Colorado’s semi-arid climate. The Gardens' dynamic, 24-acre urban oasis in the heart of the city, offers unforgettable opportunities to flourish with unique garden experiences for the whole family – as well as world-class education and plant conservation research programs. Additional sites at Chatfield Farms, a 700-acre wildlife and native plant refuge in Jefferson County; and Mount Goliath, a high-altitude trail and interpretive site on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway, extend this experience throughout the Front Range.

We had the honor of organizing the Waterlily Weigh Off on Instagram and TikTok that garnered millions of views and entries from 17 public gardens and zoos across the U.S. and U.K. The goal: become the Waterlily Heavy Weight Champion. Thanks to all the fantastic organizations that put their Victoria waterlilies to the test and created entertaining videos! The event went viral on TikTok and we are happy it served as an accessible entry point to the wonderful world of plants to so many people! Bonus: participant social media accounts gained lots of new followers and a little boost in in-person visitation, making this a collaborative success across all fronts. We can't wait for the 2025 competition. Here is our entry (spoiler if you didn't follow along -- we did not win). https://lnkd.in/gVEhG4ra

Colorado is home to an impressive diversity of geographies and environments, from prairie to shrubland to alpine tundra. It’s a botanist’s paradise to conduct fieldwork in these environments, but these varied conditions make expeditions both adventurous and challenging. In the sun-soaked eastern plains, heat and drought are concerns for human researchers and leafy subjects alike. 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘢 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘥𝘢, or fringed sagebrush, grow taproots as deep as five feet underground when water is abundant but can alternatively grow branching roots near the surface when water is fleeting. In the high alpine, 𝘗𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘢 𝘢𝘭𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘢, or Avery Peak twinpod, knows to stay low to the ground to avoid the winds and makes the most of the short summer to flower. Thank you, Ray Rinaldi, for the wonderful review of our indoor art exhibitions -- featuring Patrick Marold, Alexandra Kehayoglou and Elliot Ross -- in The Denver Post "The artwork incorporates a human touch into a place dedicated mainly to the superpowers of nature, and invites visitors to see the surrounding flora on a more emotional and spiritual level. The art builds bridges between people and plants." https://lnkd.in/ge4yF-6R

Dammed and flooded in 1963 to create Lake Powell, the desert walls of Glen Canyon in Utah have recently emerged from the water after two decades of drought. The reappearance of this vast canyon system and the ensuing ecological resurgence serve as both a stark reminder of climate change and a testament to nature's resilience. Photographer Elliot Ross documented this landscape in flux in his exhibition, "Geography of Hope," on view at the Gardens through February 2. His field journals are featured in the exhibition, providing insight into his creative process and documentation of his journey. Ross uses quick-developing photographs on these excursions as visual notes, like a painter using a sketch, in order to consider lighting, viewpoints and details to include in his final compositions. Check out content about this exhibition on the Bloomberg Connects app! https://lnkd.in/emA5YHA Art 1. Elliot Ross, "Artifacts," fall 2022. 2-3. Installation view of field journals 4.
