We honor our firefighters and emergency personnel who play an essential role in the protection of lives and property in our local communities. These brave men and women do not hesitate to answer the all to service and the Mesilla Fire Department is a shining example of this dedication. From May 26-29, 2024, they deployed a fire engine and crew to the remote White Mountain Wilderness of the Lincoln National Forest during the Blue and Blue 2 Fires. They worked tirelessly in rugged and hazardous conditions to help our neighbors in Lincoln County. Please join the Doña Ana Board of County Commissioners (pictured back row) along with the Town of Mesilla Mayor, Russell Hernandez (pictured front, right), in thanking the Mesilla Fire Department for their bravery and selflessness in protecting the lives and property for those in need: • Chief Gregory Whited (pictured front, left) • Firefighter Joseph Torres • Firefighter Nicholas Walters • Firefighter Jasha Zapien Watch the presentation of the proclamation here: https://lnkd.in/gYtkSvpG #DACbocc #Proclamation #Firefighters #WeStandTogether

Curtis Tarin joined Doña Ana County in July of 2004 as an Engineering Technician in the Engineering Services Department. In 2014, he transferred to the Flood Commission and was promoted to Construction Coordinator in 2024. In this role, he is the main point of contact for contractors, foremen and superintendents. From generating cost estimates, to managing the vendor-selection process and reviewing designs and plans, Curtis oversees Flood construction projects. He conducts inspections, including materials, material testing and construction methods. He ensures projects are on track, monitoring the timeline, labor and costs, while maintaining a positive relationship with colleagues, contractors and suppliers. He is best known for being the go-to guy for maintenance and construction, his charismatic personality and sense of humor. When not at work, Curtis is known as an avid sports fan who coached basketball at Mayfield and Centennial High Schools for 13 years. He loves being a family man and enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. Please join us in congratulating Curtis Tarin for 20 years of dedicated service to the residents of Doña Ana County! 🎊🎉 Watch the award presentation here: https://lnkd.in/gufjqzBk #DACfamily #HRproud #YearsOfService #EmployeeRecognition #20years #Anniversary

In June, Doña Ana County was honored to support our neighbors in Lincoln and Otero counties during the Salt and South Fork wildfires that occurred in the Village of Ruidoso and Mescalero Apache Reservation. We mobilized resources from the Animal Control Department, Sheriff's Office, and the Office of Emergency Management to provide assistance to those in need. A mighty team of six animal control officers cared for more than 50 animals at a temporary emergency animal shelter staged in Roswell where they provided housing, reunification and enrichment services to the displaced animals. Staff also entered into the active disaster areas to help with evacuation efforts, conduct welfare checks, and provide care to those who were unable to flee. The County also provided animal food, bedding, and care products to families and assisting agencies during the relief efforts. We sincerely appreciate all of the people and organizations who have come together to help those affected by the fires and floods in Southern New Mexico. If you would like to contribute to the long-term recovery needs of our neighboring communities, please consider donating to the Greatest Needs Impact Fun here: https://lnkd.in/gg6Kv75y #Wildfires #WeStandTogether

Victoria "Vickie" Lopez joined us in July 2009 as a Secretary in the Doña Ana County Health & Human Services (HHS) Department. Since 2014, she has received promotions to Administrative Assistant, Office Coordinator, and now, the Office Administrator. HHS Director Jamie Michael told us that Vickie is the department’s problem solver, counselor and all around go-to person. When presented with a problem or task, her response is “don’t worry, I’ve got this.” Vickie’s supervisor, Division Manager of Program Operations Norberto Godina said, “Vickie keeps HHS functioning,” as she is the department’s timekeeper, opens requisitions, manages budgets, completes change orders, oversees interns and ensures the Community Resource Centers are equipped with necessities. We are truly honored to celebrate Vickie for this important milestone in her career. We look forward to many more years of working together to improve the lives of everyone in Doña Ana County. Congratulations, Vickie! 🎉🎊 Watch the award presentation here: https://lnkd.in/g8TxpHbc #DACfamily #HRproud #YearsOfService #EmployeeRecognition #15years #Anniversary

They contribute tirelessly - often without any fanfare - through their dedication and hard work to accomplish daily tasks and innovative projects that keep Doña Ana County a great place to live, work, and recreate.
