A project of Internews, we support journalists through grants and training to cover the environment more effectively.
About us
Internews initially developed the Earth Journalism Network (EJN) in 2004 to enable journalists from developing countries to cover the environment more effectively. We are now a truly global network working with reporters and media outlets in virtually every region of the world. In our mission to improve the quantity and quality of environmental reporting, EJN trains journalists to cover a wide variety of issues, develops innovative online environmental news sites and produces content for local media – including ground-breaking investigative reports. We also establish networks of environmental journalists in countries where they don't exist and build their capacity where they do. We do so through workshops and the development of training materials and by offering Fellowship programs, grants to media organizations, story stipends, and support for story production and distribution.

For our Capturing Climate Change project, supported by Earth Journalism Network and Sida, we worked with journalists all over the world to build an archive documenting the impacts of and solutions to climate change. We believe access to free footage is crucial to help journalists tell one of the most important stories of our time. 📣We’re excited to announce EJN has selected 8 fellows for a new pilot program on climate resilience in the Philippines🎉 Our #EarthShorts initiative seeks to improve the quality of environmental information on social media by increasing the skills, resources and knowledge of content producers posting on platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and X. The selected fellows will take part in a three-day social media content creators’ bootcamp in Manila this October and engage in virtual sessions with EJN staff, their mentors and external speakers. Stay tuned for their #EarthShorts—the short climate-focused videos they'll produce with EJN support—and learn more about the program: https://loom.ly/EN-nqpc #Climate #Phillipines #Contentcreators #ClimateChange #SocialMedia #ClimateResilience #EarthShorts

It’s a wrap for Lensa Iklim Workshop #4 ✅ The Lensa Iklim workshop series is designed to arm journalists and editors from Malaysian news media with crucial knowledge and skills, enabling them to communicate issues of climate change and energy transitions in Malaysia effectively. ➡️ We had a whole powerhouse in this session! Meena Raman (Third World Network / Sahabat Alam Malaysia) provided key insights into #COP29 expectations and challenges especially on the geopolitics tension between the global south and global north on key negotiation tracks. Nadiah Rosli shared strategies for proactive climate reporting before, during, and after COP as COP is not a single annual event but a continuous buildup of work. Imelda Abano (Earth Journalism Network and Internews) explored underreported COP topics, challenges of reporting COP, and future opportunities ( including fundings and fellowships !) based on her 15 years of #UNFCCC COP reporting and training. These experts offered invaluable perspectives on navigating the complexities of COP reporting. Our discussions revealed that technicality of climate negotiations is just the tip of the iceberg, how can we humanise these negotiations for the rakyat, and connect global discussions to local environmental stories in Malaysia? Participants engaged in interactive sessions, sharing experiences and collaboratively addressing barriers to effective climate reporting. Heartfelt thanks to our speakers and journalists for their expertise and dedication. Stay tuned for more from Lensa Iklim! ⚡ Let’s Collaborate ⚡ As we continue to expand our initiatives, we’re keen to explore potential collaborations with like-minded organisations and individuals. Whether it’s through contributing to our resource hub, participating in workshops, or co-producing impactful journalism, there’s lots opportunities to drive meaningful change together. Reach out to us through email or DMs! #LensaIklim #ClimateJournalism #COP29Reporting #ClimateAction #MalaysianMedia #EnvironmentalJustice #KrisisIklim #KeadilanIklim #PeralihanAdil

🌪️Typhoon Yagi damaged some of the ancient buildings at the world-famous Bagan World Heritage Site in #Myanmar. 🛕Experts say the damage was not done by a single event, but by the slow onset of extreme weather conditions, posing risks to this archeological site and requiring more resources for its preservation.
