This week, Superintendent CJ Anderson, along with Superintendents from Humboldt, Lander, and White Pine counties, are in Washington, D.C. to discuss education funding, student and staff mental health, and other key national initiatives with our Nevada legislators. • Star Academy provides a turnkey, customizable STEM-inspired, #project-based learning curriculum targeting disengaged middle school students. The District can implement the program at Adobe Middle School thanks to a sub-grant from Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. During the week of June 17, the newly selected teachers for the Star Academy underwent training and were introduced to the core curriculum. The educators are social studies teacher Kenny Maderis, English language arts teacher Savannah Flores, science teacher Tai Costa, and math teacher James Brawley.

From Elko County School District Jackpot Combined School teacher Katie Estrada drove the seven students to Verdi and Carson City for a two day field trip that included a backyard barbecue at the home of GOED's Tammy Westergard, MLS and friends who were on hand to talk about their journeys into a work life over time. Heather Steel Elko County School District's Workbased Learning Coordinator (and son Carson) joined the Carson City leg which included a tour of the Capitol complex and a special presentation from Governor Lombardo's Education Director Isabel Gross. The presentation took place at the Mansion, and included a fantastic tour. Thank you Kristen Dillard! Before making it back to Jackpot students toured the University of Nevada, Reno's Knowledge Center @One digital media wing and took a deep dive into virtual reality production. Luca Starmar led the tour and GOED's Michelle Rebaleati (formerly with @One) joined Luca l, both thrilled to share the virtual reality collections with students. These students earned their National Career Readiness Credential from studying through first of its kind test prep tools in virtual reality from Lifeliqe's "Math for Tech" simulation. This proved to be powerful and led to a 100% pass rate! Lifeliqe's President and Co-founder Mark Andersen also helped guide the tour.

  • Congratulations to Jackpot Combined School who was recently rated as a Developing STEM School by the Governor's Office of Science & Technology. Last Tuesday, Governor Lombardo, OSIT, Superintendent Ebert, State and school districts officials, and community members came together to honor this year's awardees in Las Vegas. There are now 40 Designated Schools across Nevada representing the best in STEM education! https://lnkd.in/dskHtpsG

Our data is due by April 1, 2024, so please respond promptly. Please complete the following quick four-question Google Form https://lnkd.in/gEftNNpW. Parents/Guardians or students from the Class of 2023 can fill it out. The survey only needs to be filled out once per graduate. We are required by law to reach out at least 3 times, so even if you fill it out, you may receive several requests. If you have any questions regarding this survey, please contact Heather Steel, ECSD CTE Facilitator at 775-753-5575 x 1554 or [email protected] for assistance.
