  • On National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, we celebrate the strength and perseverance of our new agent trainees. As part of the FBI's health and wellness initiatives, employees have the opportunity to focus on their physical and mental health. This is invaluable for all employees, especially ones looking to advance their career and become a special agent. The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) is a rigorous assessment that includes a series of demanding exercises: a timed 300-meter sprint, sit-ups, push-ups, and a one-and-a-half-mile run with only 5 minutes between each event. Special agent applicants must train for the PFT in all elements - rain or shine - to prepare for expectations of FBI special agents. The PFT and other physical training elements ensure that agents are prepared for the challenges they’ll face on the job and promote overall wellness. This isn't just a test; it’s a testament to the rigor and perseverance that define a career at the FBI. Are you ready to embrace a challenging yet fulfilling path? Set yourself apart. • Ever wondered what it takes to uncover hidden messages and stop criminals in their tracks? At the FBI's Cryptanalysis and Racketeering Records Unit (CRRU), our cryptanalysts (aka codebreakers) specialize in deciphering seemingly ordinary communications to reveal sinister intentions. For instance, a letter from a prison inmate might appear innocent, but closer inspection could expose a coded message giving instructions on who to murder. By manually breaking these "pen and paper" codes, our cryptanalysts play a crucial role in keeping our nation safe from various threats, including from terrorists, gang members, and organized crime groups. Our team consists of dedicated professionals, including linguists, mathematicians, and former law enforcement officers, all united by their passion for solving complex puzzles. Becoming a cryptanalyst involves extensive training and a keen eye for detail. This rewarding career allows you to make a significant impact, from solving crimes to preventing them from happening.
