IT FINALLY HAPPENED! The Texas horned lizards have arrived! Several breeding pairs will reside here in our horned lizard facility, in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife. We are hopeful and excited to see baby horned lizards in the future. You wouldn't think so but being a large pasture facility will come in handy for raising these little ones. It means we have lots of acreage for harvester ants, their main food source. Believe it or not our animal care staff use a little vacuum, but not so much that it depletes the mound. #texashornedlizard #wildlifeconservation #fossilrim

This is Jess! A carnivore care specialist. As you can tell there is a lot of thought that goes into prepaing for the morning. Not all cheetahs are the same size and need different portions, some might be due for their parasite prevention meds. Not to mention all 28 diets have to make it to the right cat, oh and this is only the morning routine. All that to say, thanks Jess for what you do. #cheetah #fossilrim #routine #safaripark

Great news for addax in their native range!
Last year, 10 addax antelopes were reintroduced into the Ennedi Natural and Cultural Reserve in Chad as part of a plan to grow their population after having gone locally extinct decades ago in the reserve. Over the past several months, the animals have settled well and are covering an average of 10 km per week. Locally recruited Eco teams have been stationed around the park to monitor their daily movements. The addax is a desert species listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List. Once found in large numbers in vast, arid regions, it completely disappeared from Chad. As a result, Sahara Conservation dedicated years of preparation to bringing the species back to its natural habitat. These 10 addax were carefully transported to Chad from another reintroduction programme, in Ouadi Rimé-Ouadi Achim Wildlife Reserve also in Chad, to their new home in the Ennedi. The ultimate aim is to establish a healthy viable population exceeding 500 individuals, a vital step in securing the long-term survival of the species. The reintroduction of addax in Ennedi was carried out through our partnership with the Government of the Republic of Chad and Sahara Conservation and other funders. #Ennedi #Wildlifeconservation #wildlifetranslocation
