In celebration of #PrideMonth, Native Son - the leading organization dedicated to championing and empowering Black gay and queer men – partnered with Banana Republic in their new SoHo flagship to present Muse: The Influence of Black Queer Art, an evening of music provided by BMAJR, cocktails and conversation. Native Son founder Emil Wilbekin, founder of Good Black Art Phillip Collins; visual artist and filmmaker #Shikeith, and artist and associate director at Hauser & Wirth Jonathan Gardenhire hosted a discussion exploring the current renaissance, representation and visibility of Black queer art in traditional art institutions, global exhibitions, and public spaces. To support meaningful change in the communities we serve, a donation has been made to Native Son to enhance the organization’s mission to amplify the voice and visibility of Black gay and queer men. Gap Inc. is also donating to their community partner, The GenderCool Project – a youth-led movement helping to replace misinformed opinions on transgender and non-binary with positive experiences. Together, we can help bridge the inclusion gap as we work toward a more equitable future for the LGBTQ+ community.

As February comes to an end, we’re looking back from coast to coast on the exciting moments that came to life with our Banana Republic community. We started the month with a celebration to ring in Lunar New Year, hosted by model and entrepreneur Lauren Chan. Guests opened lucky red envelopes and celebrated the Year of the Dragon in our Soho Pop-Up.   In celebration of Black History Month — a time of year rooted in shared culture, heritage, and community — photographer and creative director Paola Mathé hosted a pop-up shopping event in our Soho store featuring her headwrap brand, Fanm Djanm. Guests enjoyed a live music performance from Riva Nyri, Haitian cocktails, and hors d’oeuvres by Marie Geneve. A donation will be made to the Haiti Cultural Exchange.   Continuing the celebration on the West Coast, Bryon Javar — celebrity stylist, creative director, designer and image-maker — hosted a styling event and fireside chat in our Melrose flagship store. Bryon shared his journey and inspiration, and guests enjoyed music by DJ Asia Shabazz and hors d'oeuvres by Chef Kayla Greer. We will also support donations to the Boris L. Henson Foundation and The Bahati Foundation.   Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us!
