With Florida’s 6-week abortion ban now in effect, the state moves into the Most Restrictive category on our map because it has a host of other restrictions that make accessing care before 6 weeks impossible for many. Here’s what you need to know about the impact of this ban: -Many people don’t know they’re pregnant at 6 weeks -Abortions in Florida have increased since Roe was overturned -Data from our Monthly Abortion Provision Study shows travel from out-of-state accounted for 58% of FL’s overall increase in abortions between 2020 and 2023. Floridians will have a chance to weigh in on abortion access in their state this November—a measure that would enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution will appear on the 2024 ballot. One way to support people’s access to care is by donating to FL abortion funds, including: Whole Woman's Health, LLC and Tampa Bay Abortion Fund. Some encouraging news: Argentina's 2021 legalization of abortion has paved the way for comprehensive #ReproHealth service provision in the country. We collaborated with our partners, Centro de Estudios de Población (CENEP) and FUSA para la salud integral con perspectiva de género y derechos Asociación Civil, to find out how Argentina’s historic abortion law is being implemented since its enactment. We found that abortion care is widely available, more so in urban areas than in rural provinces. Our partners’ work is critical in protecting access to #ReproHealth in Argentina. We are so grateful for their work and collaboration. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/e6P-Uhvv

During our “Data for Democracy” event at the New York Society for Ethical Culture, Guttmacher experts and partners discussed the crucial role of data two years after the US Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision and how we’re using evidence to fuel protective reproductive health policies worldwide. In this dynamic conversation, panelists illustrated the current state of reproductive health and rights in the US, including a proliferation of state abortion bans, attacks on contraception and restrictions on gender-affirming care. As the discussion made clear, overturning Roe has exacerbated barriers to care that always existed. Speakers also highlighted causes for hope and the need for bold action. Policymakers in several US states have stepped up to protect and expand abortion access—this is especially important for those forced to travel across state lines to reach care. US advocates must also look to strategies and insights from global movements such as the Green Wave, which reshaped the landscape of abortion rights in Latin America. Through partnership and collaboration, we can strengthen solidarity and build toward a shared vision of reproductive freedom for all. We’re thankful to guest panelists Jennifer Driver of State Innovation Exchange and Paula Avila Guillen of Women’s Equality Center for joining our experts in this conversation! We’re excited to announce a new policy filter on Guttmacher's interactive state policy map! This feature enables users to view which states have specific abortion restrictions or protections, or combinations of policies, in effect. Here's how it works: -The filter has three tabs grouping state policies on abortion: gestational duration bans, other restrictions, and protections. -Users can toggle and select multiple filters, with each policy accompanied by a description of how it restricts or bolsters access to care. -Users can easily adjust the filter to meet their needs, export the data into a downloadable file, or share a specific filter choice on social media. This enhancement is designed to make our map even more accessible and informative. Explore the map and filter now and let us know what you think: https://gu.tt/4985P4S

This year’s state legislative sessions have seen wide-ranging attacks on sexual and reproductive health care–including abortion and gender-affirming care bans, efforts to further criminalize pregnancy, restrictions on in-vitro fertilization and the targeting of youth access. A new analysis, co-authored by experts at the Guttmacher Institute and the State Innovation Exchange takes stock of the major restrictive and protective trends, with a particular focus on how these restrictions perpetuate economic inequality.
