Nine women from the EM Hanford Site's Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant Project were among the volunteers at Girls Rock in the Trades (GRITT) camp in Tri-Cities, WA, sharing their experiences and highlighting the range of occupations available in the construction industry. GRITT invites girls in grades 8–12 to explore the skilled trades and hear from guest speakers about fields traditionally marketed to men. EM appreciates programs like GRITT giving a positive impact to young minds in the Tri-Cities and strengthening the local pipeline for the next generation of Hanford workers!

Our summer interns gathered for an on-site networking event to learn more about Hanford Site contractors and meet with senior leaders, which included our Project Director Brian Hartman. A big thank you to One Hanford partner, Central Plateau Cleanup Company, for hosting everyone for this unique opportunity!

After recently adding the first batch of “tuning feed” to Melter 1, our control room team monitors the melter systems closely. The feed combines powdered glass-forming materials, water, and sodium hydroxide in order to support and test processing equipment in the plant’s Low-Activity Waste (LAW) Facility.

Once a year, Stakeholder-level members of the Regional Chamber may sponsor a Chamber membership for any local business or non-profit organization. This year, Bechtel Corporation selected UA Local Union 598 as the local organization to sponsor with a Regional Chamber membership. Thanks to Bechtel for their ongoing investment in the Regional Chamber, and welcome back, UA Local 598! #SponsorAMember Staci West

🎆 Happy Independence Day! 🎆 Here is a little #ThrowbackThursday from the jobsite in 2004! We are incredibly grateful to our team members monitoring and managing the plant on 24/7 shifts this holiday and through the weekend. We wish all our Vit Plant team members, family, and friends a safe and fun Fourth of July holiday.

At the Vit Plant, our teams continue to gain experience and proficiency with the Low-Activity Waste Facility container finishing handling (LFH) system. Within the LAW Facility, there are two finishing lines with mirror image corridors that contain equipment needed to receive immobilized low-activity waste (ILAW) containers. Essential finishing line functions include container measuring, sample testing, and lid placement. Our LAW Facility crews in the finishing lines recently completed the process of “lidding” two test containers and transferred each to the export bay. Great job, Vit Plant team!
