🌟Update on the series of ALBSaM project meetings
📍 Tripoli, Libya – 📆 21-22 August 2024
ICMPD convened a series of meetings within the framework of the Czech-funded Advancing Libya’s Border Security and Management (ALBSaM) project held in Tripoli on 21-22 August. These meetings were attended by Ms. Štěpánka Litecká, Chargé d'Affaires of the Czech Embassy to Libya and Tunisia, alongside representatives from the key Libyan ministries and agencies, namely Foreign Affairs, Defence, Interior and the Customs Authority.
These discussions aimed to review the current state of play regarding the development of the Integrated Border Management (IBM) Strategy and to plan the path forward for its validation and approval. Ms. Štěpánka Litecká highlighted that “the collaboration with our Libyan partners has been highly effective, ensuring that the strategy is driven by Libyan leadership and tailored to the country's specific needs and priorities.”
As the current phase of the ALBSaM project prepares for its closing event in October, ICMPD is in the process of finalising the IBM Strategy, which will soon be available in both English and Arabic for endorsement by the partners.
In addition, key topics covered in the meetings included continued support for a Strategic Risk Analysis Unit for the Ministry of Defence, the delivery of essential equipment for the Libyan Customs Authority and the support for the Ministry of Interior’s General Administration of Training.
ICMPD extends its sincere thanks to the Czech Republic and all our partners for their unwavering commitment and collaboration in preparing for a new phase of the ALBSaM project, reflecting our ongoing support for Libya's migration/border management efforts.
