New paper alert! This new paper based on data from our NIH funded TOPOWA Project raises questions about self-reported alcohol use among young women in Kampala, Uganda 🇺🇬🌍 More work is clearly needed to understand the alcohol drinking context (our study was not designed to do that specifically). Meanwhile, we need to address the stigma and social desirability biases that we suspect are the root causes of the under reporting of alcohol use among the women in our study. Key take home message; Our alcohol prevention efforts will be unsuccessful until, or unless, women feel comfortable sharing information about their alcohol use. What are your suggestions? Read report for free: https://lnkd.in/exnNjA57 And, huge thanks to the interdisciplinary team: Dr. Jane Palmier, PhD, JD, MPH, Dr. Rachel Culbreth, Dr. Godfrey Bbosa, Charles Natuhamya, Gideon Matovu, and Dr. Rogers Kasirye and all TOPOWA project members working so hard to implement this large and complex project. #TOPOWAproject #openaccess IJERPH MDPI #UYDEL #womenshealth #alcohol #alcoholawareness #globalhealth #Kampala #Uganda Makerere University College of Health Sciences Kennesaw State University—Wellstar College of Health and Human Services
