IREX hosted the second Kenya Creative Learning Symposium in Ukunda, Kwale, gathering 104 participants from government and civil society organizations. The event focused on innovative approaches to enhancing the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and foundational learning. The symposium aimed to emphasize the significance of creative learning in Kenya’s education system, share new evidence on effective practices in foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), digital literacy, and social-emotional learning (SEL), and foster support for the sustainable implementation of Community-Based Education (CBE). Over two productive days, participants engaged in interactive activities that showcased successful playful learning strategies and demonstrated various creative teaching and learning methods. Some key takeaways included strategies for assessing #CreativeLearning, methods for better engaging parents in supporting their children's education both at home and in school, and approaches for scaling up the use of play and technology beyond the coastal region. #innovativeeducation #KCLS2024
