The Franklin Water Reclamation Expansion Project is now complete, featuring a new biosolids treatment system that's helping modernize solid processing operations. As the general contractor on the project, Kiewit was tasked with renovating the existing facility in Franklin, Tennessee, to meet the city's growing demand, improve water quality and public health benefits and preserve its water resources. One of the facility’s additions includes a thermal hydrolysis system, which produces a Class A (exceptional quality) biosolid that can be land-applied or further processed into marketable fertilizer products. This greatly reduces the cost of hauling and the disposal of biosolids in landfills. This system also enhances biogas production for use as a renewable energy source. Over the last four years, our work also included: · The construction of a headworks structure · Modifications to existing BNR basins · A new equalization tank with mixing capabilities · Odor control system upgrades · Pump station improvements · New electrical equipment and distribution system · New UV disinfection facility This all occurred while the facility maintained operations. These additions mean enhanced environmental performance to minimize ecological footprint, including energy-efficient equipment, state-of-the-art technology and increased capacity. The facility will now be able to treat 16 million gallons of wastewater every day. Below, you’ll see a picture of our project team from the recent ribbon-cutting ceremony. Congratulations to the residents of Franklin, our client and the crew who worked incredibly hard on this project!

At Kiewit, prioritizing mental health is a long-term commitment. When our employees feel mentally strong, they make better decisions, communicate well and stay focused – all factors that contribute to a more productive and safe work environment. Kiewit's Under the Hat provides mental health and wellbeing support for our employees, their families and others who work on Kiewit projects. It also serves as a way for the company to escalate its focus on educating employees on increasing mental health understanding, identifying warning signs and promoting the use of available resources to support mental health. Remember, asking for help is a sign of strength. Let's continue to prioritize mental wellbeing and support each other at home and work. We’re partnering with schools like the Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) to bring qualified craft workers to our projects. These five men recently graduated from SLTC’s 15-week electrical line training program in Trenton, Georgia, and now work for Kiewit. Since graduating in April, they have been assigned to one of our solar projects for the summer. Once the project is complete, they will begin the company’s Accelerated Journeyman Development Program (AJDP) and become lineman apprentices on a transmission line rebuild project in Oklahoma. As our need for skilled workers continues to increase, our craft services team will continue prioritizing partnerships with organizations that develop skilled trade workers for the future of our industry.

The reopening of the Joslyn Art Museum is quickly approaching, so here’s a look at some of the new construction and renovations our team has been working on. Over the last three years, we’ve been building the new 42,000-square-foot Rhonda & Howard Hawks Pavilion, a Snøhetta-designed addition to The Joslyn and the second expansion in its history. It features a new entrance and entry atrium, a community room, a new Museum Shop and ten new galleries. When the Museum reopens, 5,000 years of art will be on view across three buildings, including 100 works new to the collection and four temporary exhibitions. Renovations include new and updated studios for art classes, a completely refurbished lecture hall and cafe, and reimagined gardens and grounds. Built by Kiewit and opened in 1931, the original Joslyn building, an iconic landmark in Omaha, is the largest art museum in Nebraska. Peter Kiewit served as the superintendent on the project, overseeing column and marble installation. In 1994, Kiewit constructed the Museum’s first expansion, the Walter & Suzanne Scott Pavilion. Look through the photos to see a throwback from when the Museum was under construction in 1929 and the completed Walter & Suzanne Scott Pavilion. The Joslyn is set to reopen for visitors on September 10, 2024. General admission to the Museum is free to all, always.

The Salmon Lake Project, a full roadway reconstruction in Seeley Lake, Montana, is expected to wrap up construction this fall. Over the last four years, Kiewit has been reconstructing nearly four miles of Montana Highway 83 along the east side of Salmon Lake to upgrade the existing roadway and add better bike accessibility. Enhanced safety improvements include better visibility, widened roads with paved shoulders, a new guardrail and improved existing cut slopes to reduce rockfall hazards. Highway 83 is one of the main north/south connector highways in the region that leads summer travelers to all the lakes, hiking and off road trails in the area and leads vacationers right to Glacier National Park. This summer, we’ll install new retaining walls and culverts, finish asphalt paving, complete roadway striping, install signage and start project cleanup. As the construction manager/general contractor for the project, we worked with the Montana Department of Transportation to keep the road open for the traveling public during construction.
