CPE is very excited about the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce's new Kentucky Collaborative on Child Care, dedicated to expanding child care - 1 out of 5 students has children. Increasing opportunities also increases the likelihood adults can return & complete a college credential. https://lnkd.in/gxX-b4qQ

About us
The Council on Postsecondary Education is Kentucky's higher education coordinating agency committed to strengthening the state by increasing educational attainment to 60% of the population with a postsecondary credential by 2030. Our work improving public higher education is based upon the following priorities: - Increasing student readiness and enrollment in postsecondary education. - Reducing financial barriers to college enrollment and completion and improving the public’s understanding of how to pay for college. - Raising persistence and completion rates, facilitating better transfer pathways and ensuring and academic offerings are high-quality, relevant and inclusive. - Improving the career outcomes of postsecondary graduates and strengthening the state's research capacity. - Building public and state investment in postsecondary education. In addition to work set out by the strategic agenda, the Council has several legislated duties, which include creating the biennial budget request for postsecondary education, implementing the performance funding model, setting and approving tuition rate caps, and developing policy around admissions and academic programs. Beyond public higher education, the Council also licenses non-profit and for-profit colleges that offer four-year bachelor’s degrees to operate in Kentucky.

During the pandemic, people started using the phrase, "the new normal." Well, we've been experiencing "a new normal" in #highered. However, it's been over the last decade and due to the societal impact of technology. We cannot compare "my generation" to young people and simply be dismissive: Today is vastly and permanently different. The information overload is wreaking havoc on young minds. And until our ability to instill coping skills into our children catches up to the lightning-fast advances of technology, we are going to continue to have a mental health crisis. That's why it's imperative that we build safe spaces of healing, empathy and inclusion on every Kentucky campus for our students. #KYHigherEdMatters

The COVID-19 shutdown affected more than just academics. High school students missed out on a lot of social and emotional development dependent upon in-person learning and structures. But Kentucky was ahead of the national trends, collaborating with employers on ways to strengthen outcomes and success before the pandemic. We began integrating these skills into curriculum through our Kentucky Graduate Profile, which is our "north star" when it comes to the best the graduate can be when they enter the workforce. #KYHigherEdMatters
