McLaren Engineering Group’s #Entertainment team collaborated with Sapsis Rigging Inc. on a visually stunning performance for Childish Gambino's exclusive show at Little Island NYC. Known for his genre-blending nature, thought-provoking lyrics, and innovative production, "CHILDISH GAMBINO LIVE FROM LITTLE ISLAND," premiered his highly anticipated album, Bando Stone & The New World. A central element of the show was a massive LED curtain that provided a captivating backdrop for the performance. Our Entertainment team engineered the support structure for this crucial visual component, including truss towers tied to another with a cable stay and guy cables utilizing pre-existing base anchorages that McLaren has utilized for past productions. Sapsis Rigging supplied the equipment and performed the rigging for the #LED curtain, including rope rigging that allowed the LED curtain to be deployed and lowered easily. With the backdrop of the Hudson River, surrounded by the serene greenery of Little Island Park, the entire event setup delivered an unforgettable visual experience. #ChildishGambino #LiveEntertainment - - Images courtesy of Sapsis Rigging Inc.

𝐌𝐜𝐋𝐀𝐑𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐄𝐋𝐃: 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 𝐒𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍 𝐀𝐓 𝐒𝐎𝐔𝐓𝐇 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐂𝐇 𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐀𝐋  Responsible for the structural, site/civil, and geotechnical engineering aspects, McLaren's expertise extended throughout the site design process.       A key challenge was raising the proposed building's elevation and it’s adjacent parking by 4 feet to meet FEMA Floodplain Elevation regulations, crucial for flood risk management near the Kill Van Kull in Staten Island. To reduce these risks, our Civil Engineering team meticulously designed drainage systems to direct stormwater to detention and infiltration practices, ensuring effective flood mitigation. Safety and accessibility were also key objectives in this project, with detailed attention given to ADA-compliant pedestrian pathways and lighting to ensure safe navigation.     Follow along as Jay Glucksman, PE, Civil Staff Engineer, shares insights into this multidivisional project, directly from the South Beach Hospital site: https://lnkd.in/e6YyM-Cg #CivilEngineer #SiteDevelopment #StormwaterManagement #Healthcare

🏆 McLaren Engineering Group's Lower Westchester Bundled #Bridges Design-Build project has been awarded the ASCE Lower Hudson Valley Tappan Zee Large Project of the Year Award! McLaren's geomatics, bridge, highway, civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering teams along with their subconsultants Schnabel Engineering, Hunt Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Prudent Engineering LLP worked with Halmar International to provide multidisciplinary design-build services to replace bridges and culverts and make ground improvements against the increasing frequency of severe weather events and storms in #WestchesterNY. The NYSDOT infrastructure project aimed to mitigate frequent flooding concerns along sections of the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville, the Hutchinson River Parkway in Mt. Vernon/Pelham and Route 1 in Mamaroneck. The work included the replacement of seven bridges, the installation of two major bypass culverts, 1,700 feet of soil stabilization along the Saw Mill River Parkway and highway, drainage, utility, traffic and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) improvements along each high-volume corridor. #Bridge #BridgeDesign

In collaboration with Giant Spoon and Bigger Than Life, our #entertainment engineers have taken HBO’s House of the Dragon Season 2 premier to new heights with a giant 270-foot #inflatable Vhagar, (Aemond Targaryen’s Dragon 🐲) perched atop #NYC's Empire State Building and coiling around its iconic spire 1,250 feet above midtown Manhattan. A feat never before accomplished, the surprise reveal of Vhagar atop “the world’s most famous building” required collaboration, precise execution, and coordination by the world’s leading industry specialists with no room for error. To achieve the impossible, the dragon was held in place by over 150 ropes, each going to a unique rigging point on the structure.  To protect the building’s historic façade, the team was not allowed to create any new penetration points on the spire when securing Vhagar, so we utilized preexisting connection points such as external abandoned ladders, fall protection brackets, and former antenna mounts. Created as a temporary popup promotional #attraction, our entertainment team needed to design reinforcing for the rigging points inside the spire without any welding that could be readily installed by hand and field adjusted by Jepol Industrial Rope Access working on ladders and climbing ropes. The #engineering had to align with the as-tested load capabilities of the inflatable fabric material without causing excessive loads at the face of the 90-year old aluminum skin. One of Vhagar’s major challenges at 102 stories high was to contend with wind, rain, and lightning. An overnight installation was needed to reveal Vhagar in the morning, and that required very calm and dry conditions for the industrial rope access team to safely handle and rig the fabric inflatable into place. McLaren’s structural challenge was to engineer the assembly to sufficiently high wind speeds but keeping within the capability of the fabric. DTN provided focused weather forecasting leading up to the event, along with real-time weather reports throughout the process to ensure the safety of the installation crews and for Vhagar. With only one chance to pull it off, the structure was hoisted in three separate pieces in a well-orchestrated overnight installation. The iconic reveal was achieved in time for HOD’s Sunday night premier! This Manhattan marvel is part of an #immersive House of the Dragon experience by #HBO Max and the Empire State Building, showcasing both the show and an interactive fan adventure featuring a photo opportunity with the legendary 'Iron Throne' on the 80th floor.
