In recent years, Mediagistic has partnered with Simpli.fi and the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority to deploy “a programmatic strategy focused on location-based targeting and recent vacation spending in order to drive travelers to the island of Saint Lucia.” Using a creative strategy that included CTV, geofencing and online video ads in order to visually showcase the island, the campaign generated high Video Completion Rates of 75.64% for online video and 98.02% for CTV. This is one of the most egregious examples of a blackhat GBP pin-moving attack that I've seen so far. Recently spotted by our own Christopher Steinkopf -- Nine different heating and cooling businesses were all relocated to the same shopping center outside of Raleigh. As reported by local SEO industry experts like Joy Hawkins and Darren Shaw, there has been a sharp uptick in this new(ish) local SEO attack. How does this work? Because it's so deeply invested in crowdsourcing business information in its maps product, Google allows anyone to move your map pin (including unscrupulous competitors and/or blackhat marketers working for those competitors). If this happens to your business, you'll lose all local rankings in your actual location and you'll disappear from searches (meaning you'll take a hit to your revenue). AND Google probably will suspend your GBP if you try to move it back through the normal interface. We helped these businesses to remediate the issue by using Google's "Suggest an Edit" feature to report that these locations had the wrong address. Keep an eye on your GBP.
