🎁 Multus celebrates 4 years! Our journey so far ⬇️ 🟦 In 2020, Multus was created to make media that scales. 👥 Kevin Pan, Réka Trón and Cai Linton started Multus because they saw the need for a more sustainable food system and the potential of cultivated meat to help make that vision a reality. 🌎 They also saw the potential for engineering biology to overcome the core challenges in this emerging sector - which are: 🔒 Existing media formulations are too expensive as an input to food production. 🔒 Developing new media formulations is slow and expensive. 🔒 Inefficient approaches to media optimisation. 🔒 The limited availability of suitable ingredients. ⚠️ These problems put cultivated meat companies at risk of stalling at lab scale. 🟦 Today, Multus provides solutions that address all of these core challenges: 🔑 Our technology platform screens thousands of formulations in parallel to make media development cheaper and faster. 🔑 We use machine learning tools to handle complex optimisation. 🔑 We develop novel ingredients that can reduce food waste while making cultivated meat affordable. 🎂 As we celebrate 4 years into our journey, we are encouraged to see how far the industry has come globally as it strives to make a more sustainable food system. 📖 Read about our most recent company milestone: https://lnkd.in/erZAXKhx #AlternativeProtein #CultivatedMeat #CellularAgriculture #SustainableFoodSystems

🤖 4 ways AI can optimise cell line establishment for cultivated meat ⤵️ 🧫 Cell lines are perfect for use in cultivated meat production because they are: 🔺 Consistent,  🔺 Characterised,  🔺 Reduce the use of animal cells. ⛔ However, since identifying and curating them is highly complex, there is a lack of well-characterised and commercially available cell lines for cultivating meat. 📗 A new resource from New Harvest explores the potential that machine learning has to accelerate cultivated meat technology. ✅ The paper highlights four applications where machine learning can be used to optimise cell lines; they are: 1️⃣ Network analysis 🔬 Machine learning can be used to model and interpret complex biological interactions to understand the state of a cell population. 2️⃣ Helping to analyse complex omics data 📊 By grouping functionality-related cells and profiling gene expression, machine learning can help identify and characterise new cell lines. 3️⃣ Aiding antibody design 🦠 The development of novel antibodies for cell sorting and identification can be aided by machine learning. 4️⃣ Mapping and enhancing genetic traits 🧬 Machine learning can accelerate gene editing technology to generate cell lines optimised for cultivated meat. 🟦 At Multus, we partnered with Extracellular to launch the first licence-free cell bank for cultivated meat. 🔷 This industry resource will help to advance B2B cell line development for the industry. ⏩ Learn more about this collaboration here: https://lnkd.in/dmYJaPHv Or read the new paper from New Harvest here: https://lnkd.in/eSYwp3XW  #CultivatedMeat #CellularAgriculture #SustainableFoodSystems #FoodInnovation #SustainableAgriculture #BioEngineering #AI #MachineLearning #BioEngineering

Today I'm at Cultivate for the 8th annual UK conference on cellular agriculture. I'm here to share how Multus is using AI to reduce feedstock costs for cultivated meat production. But beyond ourselves, these events remind me of W. Brian Arthur's words on the nature of technology: 🖊️ "...technology is not merely a catalog of individual parts. It is a metabolic chemistry, an almost limitless collective of entities that interact to produce new entities-and further needs."
