A large-scale study from six countries found that the likelihood of hospitalization, treatment, and death by heart attack is not the same for men and women. NIA-funded scientists examined whether sex differences in older adults hospitalized for a heart attack were consistent across the United States, Canada, England, Netherlands, Taiwan, and Israel. They found that men are more likely to be hospitalized for a heart attack, while hospitalized women are less likely to receive treatment and are more likely to die from severe heart attack.
