Our mission is good health for our people, our patients, our communities and our world. Above all, we will do the right.

About us

Good health for our people, our patients, our communities and our world. Legacy Health is a local nonprofit that provides comprehensive primary, secondary and tertiary care services across the Portland and Vancouver metro area and the mid-Willamette Valley. That means helping people get healthy, and staying that way. Encouraging medical professionals to set a higher standard. Tending to the little things that help patients heal. And supporting our staff in doing whatever it takes to meet the needs of those we serve. But it's not just what we do, it's why we do it. At Legacy, our fundamental responsibility is to improve the wellness of everyone we touch, to empower people to live healthier lives, and to create a legacy that truly lives on. We strive to be a diverse, culturally competent organization. We strongly encourage individuals with diverse backgrounds and those who promote diversity and inclusion to apply. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the arrival of federal troops in Galveston, Texas, in 1865 to enforce the emancipation of all enslaved people. This pivotal moment came two-and-a-half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, thus marking a delayed but significant step toward freedom. Juneteenth celebrates the end of slavery in the United States and is the longest-running African American holiday. While it has been a cornerstone of Black American culture, particularly in the South, Juneteenth did not achieve federal recognition until 2021. This long-overdue acknowledgment came in the wake of a national awakening on racial injustice, ignited by the tragic deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and others. Their deaths resulted in subsequent nationwide protests against systemic racism and police brutality. However, despite its deep roots and profound significance, Juneteenth still remains unfamiliar to many Americans. For some Black Americans, Juneteenth is a cherished time to gather and celebrate independence and heritage. For others, it is a solemn reminder of the work that still remains to dismantle systemic racism and achieve equality. This year, in honor of Juneteenth, we have invited Legacy Health staff to share their thoughts on what this holiday means to them personally. Join us in honoring this pivotal moment in American history by checking out the exhibit: "What Juneteenth Means to Me: A Photo Essay" in person at all Legacy Health hospitals or follow the link to read their powerful reflections: https://bit.ly/4eEqr98 #Juneteenth

In recognition of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we had the privilege of speaking with members of our Asian and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group, learning about their unique journeys and what this celebration means to them. In this edition, we spoke with Eric, who joined Legacy 17 years ago as a staff therapist and has since risen to the position of Rehabilitation and Outpatient Supervisor at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center. During our conversation, Eric reflected on his family's Japanese heritage, emphasizing the cultural value of always pushing to do your best and wanting more out of life. He thanks his grandparents for always inspiring him to step out of the box and try new things, which is why he pursued the management position at Legacy. Stay tuned as we continue to share more stories from our Asian and Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group members!
